41 Body problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

When traveling on the interstate, the molding piece that surrounds the rear third brake light flew off and the brake light was left dangling against the read window. Thankfully there was no one immediately behind us, so the part did not hit a vehicle. After many calls to area body shops I'm being told this is a "known issue with this part" and our only option is to pay hundreds of dollars for a new part from Chevrolet and then pay hundreds more to have it painted and installed!.

42 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

Rear piece above hatch which holds the third brake light, came off and was dangling by the wire. This is a safety hazard and can cause an accident if it falls off. This is held on by double stick tape. Gm needs to do something about this problem, they redesigned the piece and that tells me they know it is dangerous.

43 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

While driving down highway started to hear a banging noise turns out it was my plastic that's above my hatch where my 3 red brake light is it hasn't fallen off yet just loose and flopping around I have read this happens to a lot of Trailblazer this should be a safety recall on this and even you guys are aware of the problem the molding which is double sided tape is not a proper use for this the company should have to fix it is it gonna take one flying off and causing a death and major accident before anyone does something?.

44 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/26/2013

Driving approximately 40 to 43 mph when another vehicle turned directly in front of me. Total frontal damage buckling up hood on my car as I hit other vehicle in front-end passenger side. Their airbag deployed but mine didn't, even with total front end damage to my car. Had seatbelt on, but due to impact still pulled my whole body forward (like crash test dummy). This was a very hard crash totaling my car.

50 Body problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/07/2013

Crashed straight into the back end of a vehicle doing 60 while I was doing atleast 80, or 85, maybe more, I don't remember. The first thing I remember seeing is realizing I'm alright despite the blood in the cockpit and on my face despite sneezing which was spreading blood. Is this a vehicle defect or what? my math says that crashing at 85mph into a vehicle doing 60 is like crashing into a brick wall at 25mph. I've had a local mechanic check it out and he says according to his obd-ii computer everything is working fine (or was atleast) :) anyways, please feel free to contact me again with any more question you may have. 51 Body problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Was under vehicle and noticed a stress crack in the frame on the passenger side under the motor mount. This looks like it can be a potentially serious issue and looks as if it has been there for a while. The crack is approximately 6" long and on the very bottom of the frame directly below the engine mounting bracket.

52 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

Driving approx 70mph on the highway, suddenly heard a "whap whap whap" noise coming from the back of the vehicle. I slowed down, and the sound diminished. Arriving home, I found that the center brake light assembly had come loose at both ends. The two center connections luckily held, or else the piece would have come off the car and possibly caused an accident. I have read that other Trailblazers have had the same issue.

53 Body problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Was traveling on interstate and the rear spoiler with brake light just broke off my vehicle.

55 Body problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

While attempting to get my son from the vehicle, the left rear passenger handle assembly pulled away from the door housing and into my hand. The linkage remained intact, so I pushed the handle back into place and luckily was able to open the door from the outside. Upon borescope review, the mounting bracket to which the handle fastened was so badly corroded that it disintegrated when I closed the door and dropped to the bottom of it. Mind you now that this corrosion took place inside the door housing as the door handle assembly is not sealed whatsoever from the exterior elements (and gm wonders why the recent door. Window switch recall occurred). Upon review of the right side rear passenger door, I noticed the same rust staining below that handle (vehicle is white, so contrast is good) so it is likley only a matter of time before that fails as well. I contacted chevy, was assigned a case number & took the vehicle to the dealers for required assessment. Was called the next day by chevy and told they are aware of the problem, however they could not offer any assistance "due to the nature of the climate where I live" (northeast). I questioned their rationale and asked them if they sold specific vehicles to ne customers - their reply was "no". I again reiterated that the corrosion took place on the inside of the door, not the exterior - however the scripted response from csr was the same. I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate this problem further as it is a definitive safety issue in event of an accident in which my children would have to be rapidly extracted from the vehicle and the first responder is sitting there with a faulty handle in his hand. Yes, they could break the window, but try telling a 1 & 3 year old to close their eyes and turn their head and see if compliance is attained!.

56 Body problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

59 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/22/2012

We were driving on the WI interstate system when the rear spoiler detached and flew onto the roadway leaving the brake light dangling and banging into the hatched window. Due to road conditions and snow on the concrete divided median I wasn't able to stop and pick up the debris. The back gate hadn't been opened for at least 2 days so there was no way to know this was going to happen.

60 Body problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

61 Body problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/23/2011

Chevrolet Trailblazer ext was towed from highway due to a ruptured transmission line. Tow truck driver towed vehicle from the rear wheels. Upon delivering vehicle to repair shop, the entire upper hatch trim molding (high mount brake light cover) piece and the high mount brake light assembly was missing with only the two wires dangling. Upon inspection, the piece is only held on the vehicle by 2 bolts and double sided tape. The double sided tape on the rear glass was dry and crumbling (completely ineffective). Since the vehicle was traveling backwards behind the tow truck, the piece was not able to withstand the force of wind which pushed the piece upward until it ultimately cracked and broke off the vehicle. There have been many reports of this piece falling off from Trailblazer models going forward and gm has done nothing to redesign or fix the problem. A large plastic piece such as that should not use 2 bolts and double sided tape as a primary means of attachment. At a minimum, a safety notice should be sent that towing a Trailblazer from the rear at high speeds may result in this piece breaking off, posing a real safety concern (flying highway debris) to the following vehicle(s). Parts are falling off vehicles and no one but the disgruntled owners seem to care.

65 Body problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/07/2011

I have a 2006 chevy Trailblazer ext. I was driving around and it was pretty windy. I noticed that there seemed to be alot of air coming in thru the rear hatch. When I opened the glass on the rear hatch I noticed that the hinge had come unglued from the window. Since it was windy it also caused some of the other hinges to crack and break where the 3rd brake light is located. I had to forcibly close the rear window and now it is only being held by one hinge on the right side and in the lower middle where it closes and locks. Chevy says that it'll cost me over $1,300 to get fixed since it is out of warranty. It only has 53,000 miles on it.

66 Body problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Gas gauge bcame very erratic. Finally didn't register at all. Check engine light came on while out of town. Took the car to a merlin automotive for repair. Spent hundreds of dollars and the light would not go off. Mass air flow meter, plugs, fuel rail, throttle position sensor, fuel injectors. They even called in a chevy technician who could not figure it out. When I returned home I took it to my local repair shop where they dropped the tank and replaced the sending unit. Hundreds of dollars in expenses. Then the heating fan switch started smoking and had to be replaced as it had melted and nothing worked . Also, every door rusted through at the bottom including hte rear ahtch. Dealers' response:welcome to wisconsin. I spent $700 to have the rust cleaned up.

70 Body problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

I bought my2005 Trailblazer new in 2006. The rear driver side door quit working and I had to use a bungee cord to keep it shut until I got it in to a mechanic to look at. I was told that somehow water got inside the door and damaged the components mechanic was able to get the door to shut but warned me if it was opened again it may not shut so it has been duct-taped up so my children won't inadvertently use it. I noticed rust on the top of the vehicle in front of the moon roof very early on. The rear passenger door has to be opened gently from the back portion of the handle as it appears it is going to break off in the near future. The rear hatch and also the glass portion of the hatch back has now stopped working. It was brought in for an oil change and I asked the mechanic to check it out he was able to get it unlocked a couple times by pressing the auto unlock on the key repeatedly (more than 3 times he said) I have not been as fortunate and have not been able to use the rear quarters now because of this.
