2007 Trailblazer ss drivers door module/window switch
on my normal commute to work, I had noticed a faint burning smell of plastic that would only linger in the cabin for a few seconds. The smell continued for almost a week with the same symptoms and then disappeared for almost 4 days. After the smell of burning plastic was no longer there, one night while driving, the drivers door module lights (drivers, passenger, rear windows, window locks, and lock) were flickering and noticeably power surging. I was concerned about this issue so I had done some research online looking for any information that may lead to a solution to my problem and if any other Trailblazer owners were experiencing the same problem. Seemed to be a pretty popular problem among Trailblazer owners ranging from 2004 and up. Some research indicated that wires may had been broken inside the insulation that goes from the interior of the car to the door. I had the vehicle inspected at a chevy dealership and they told me that the ddm was functional and just needed a fuse replacement. That same night when moving the vehicle from the street to my driveway, smoke started pouring from the top of the door panel and it was obvious that plastic was burning and on fire. I then pried the drivers door module off and noticed a dime sized hole right under where the drivers window switch button is located. That hole still singing I disconnected the ddm and have been driving with non-operational windows ever since.

While driving my car today I tried to roll the window down on the drivers side. The window would go down and then automatically go up. I tried all the windows and they would all go down and automatically go up. I took it to the repair shop. The left master window switch was stuck in the down position. They tried to reset it and now the left master window switch will not respond at all. They said the switch was getting very hot while they were diagnosing the problem.
The driver's door window and door lock has been working intermittently over the last 1 1/2 yrs. This last March, the window stopped working . Then the door lock followed and then the entire door. I have no control over any aspect of the car with that door. I makes a buzz-zapping sound. I cannot lock the windows at all in the back, so now my young children play with the windows and hang out them. The doors are supposed to lock when the truck is put into gear, but that does not always happen. Sometimes it will happen 10 minutes into a trip , sometimes not at all. In the last month the front passenger side window stopped working also. My sons are now complaining of hearing a buzz, click, click, click, sound coming from the back doors. I assume it is the vehicle attempting to lock the doors since we are driving but it is unable to. The driver side mirror also has a mind of its own due to the malfunction of the electrical or the door. It will change its positioning all by itself . I always have to readjust it manually just to find it pointing at the ground later on. I took it to my Chevrolet dealer and was told my vehicle is not included in the recall because of where I purchased it and where I limy live. This is a safety issue apart from the obvious electrical zapping that can be heard, but it is also for children when the vehicle is in motion. I am unemployed and it is going to cost over $150 for them to look at it, and he said there is no recall so to fix it, I will have to pay. There is constant exposure to salt air here in florida. My kids lives are at stake. I do not care where I live, this is there safety. What if they open the window and get hurt because I cannot lock the window because of problems with my car door. The recall needs to be nation wide and it needs to resolved before someone get hurts.
I have the same issue as the 2006, 2007 Trailblazer recall of August 2012. The door module shorted out.

Failure of the passenger side window while driving in frigid weather. Almost causing a major accident. Contacts and phone consultations with gm customer service and their regional representative for albuquerque, new mexico led nowhere. Gm's regional rep--named eileen, tel. 866-790-5700 ext 41068--was unconcerned about this chronic, documented safety hazard on the Trailblazer. Power window and other electrical failures are known to be common to the Trailblazer. Gm at first suggested they may pick up part of the repair costs, then refused despite acknowledging that this was a common problem with this vehicle. They are unconcerned about my wife being put in severe danger while driving on the highway on a frigid night. We have had multiple electrical failures common to this unsafe vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The driver and passenger side began to go up and down without me toughing it. The driver side mirror also would not function. I was told that it was the master power switch that needed to be replaced. Again I had to pay out of pocket for something that gm should cover. I just want gm to own up to this defect and offer reimbursement for this repair.
I was having problems with the drivers side door control panel for about 3 days. On 2/22/12 the controls did not work for the drivers side window and the window was stuck in the up position. On 2/23/12 when returning to my vehicle the window was in the complete down position. I started my vehicle in attempt to roll up the window but the controls didn't work. After about 15 seconds I noticed a burning plastic smell coming from the controls. I immediately shut off the vehicle and popped off the control module to find smoke coming out of the opening. I disconnected the wires and removed the module. I could see what appears to be an internal fire in the module due to the melted plastic and housing of the unit. I'm glad that I have some sense of mechanical aptitude because this could have caused a lot of damage.
2006 Trailblazer 4wd. The driver's side window become erratic during operation at first. Then entire electrical system was affected over next day or two, including making door locks operate on their own, heard electrical crackling sounds in door and dashboard. Smelled electrical fire fumes slightly once. Engine warning light came on, followed by light warning that stabilatrak had issues. Took it into Chevrolet dealership (harbor, 9911 w 300 n, michigan city, in. Phone (219) 210-4266. ) after the service department investigated, they reported that the issue was a burned out drivers door module that had obvious charring on it. The service tech noted on invoice sheet that he found the engine light was indicating a p0171 diagnostic issue which he traced to the "failed/shorted" driver door module. The solution was to replace the module and program the new module. The next day after getting back the vehicle, the engine warning light came on again. A check by me using my obd unit shows that once again the p0107 is the issue. I have also again heard crackling in the door, but no electrical issues seen thus far. Will be heading back to dealership first chance that I get. Cost of the unit replacement was $524. 62.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact smelled a burning odor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the master window switch melted in the front driver’s side door. The mechanic also stated that the master window switch would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000.
After putting the drivers window down at a fast food drive thru it would not go back up. This was in January, very cold in michigan. Dealer said moisture must have gotten into switch and the whole module had to be replaced. I asked if that means the doors can't be opened when it was raining, he said yes they can but for some reason gm has a lot of drivers door window switches going bad on the Trailblazers. The cost to have it replaced was $430 which we paid seeing how only the dealer can program the new switch. It's now one year later and the same switch has gone bad again, I called the dealer but were over the 12,000 mile warranty. It will cost another $430 to replace again.

Lowered drivers window after a minute or two smelled plastic burning saw smoke coming from control panel I ripped the panel out to see melted plastic and stronger smell of plastic burning control box is melted completely thru I pulled all but two connector plugs as the remaining two connectors are fused to the control box and can not disconnect them.
I smelled something burning and tried to roll my window down with no success. I have a friend who is a mechanic, remove the master switch from the door. There burn marks and melting on the plastic outside components. I am fearful that this could have caught fire and me or someone in my family would become seriously injured or worse. And who is to say that is would not do it again if the piece was only replaced. I feel this should be seriously looked at by Chevrolet before something tragic happens.
I woke up one morning to a smoky garage and noticed my driver door module had caught on fire, luckily the whole truck did not catch on fire in my garage while my family and I were inside our home sleeping. I can no longer control the power windows and locks in my truck. I contacted my local chevy dealer and they tried charging me nearly $1000. 00 for a module and door panel replacement and notified me there were no such recalls on my vehicle at this time. This is not the first incident I also had another fire while at a drive through window, the wiring to the cigarette lighters inside my vehicle caught on fire a few weeks after the door again the chevy dealer said there are no recalls and I would have to pay out of pocket. So many what if questions come to mind. This is not the only Trailblazer I have known or read upon to have electrical issues or even fire damage. Gm definitely needs to take responsibility before there is harm to anyone due to these unknown fires.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the main power switch in the driver side window caught fire. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that the switch was no longer covered under warranty and that they would be unable to assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 91,000. Updated 05/08/lj.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that he attempted to open the driver side window but the window would not respond. All of the remaining windows also failed. The vehicle was not taken the vehicle to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 95,000. Updated 8/28/12 the consumer stated he was driving when the windows stopped working. The entire dash cluster shut down, the windshield wipers came on by themselves, the side mirrors started moving, and all the lights came on, the vent blowers stopped and the windows rolled up on their own. After 30 minutes, the dash cluster stared functioning again, and the mirrors stopped moving, but the driver side door panel was not working as the vent blowers did not come back on. The consumer was quoted $200 just to take the driver's side door panel off and look at it. Updated 08/29/12.
I noticed months ago that the lights weren't working on the power windows switches on the driver's side of the truck. I have definitely noticed some odd smells (burning/melting/plastic/chemical) that I was never sure where they were coming from. Before the issues with the lights, which was probably around the beginning of November, the one touch window opening control button (all the way down with only one touch instead of holding the window button) stopped functioning, the window would stall in the middle of either closing it or opening it and when it didn?t stall and closing/opening was successful it would be very, very, very, very, very slow. The window in my truck is now dead. It will not operate at all. I went to try to shut it Monday night and it wouldn?t shut, there is about 2-3 inches of space where the window is down. There is no power to any of my window controls, or to my power locks on the driver?s side. While doing some research on this issue I came upon this site where others had listed very similar problems. I also understand that this is currently under investigation to see if a recall is warranted. Given that this is a very well known problem, what recourse is there for the unsuspecting consumer? I purchased this vehicle less than 1 year ago as a used vehicle.
Driver side window switch had a burning smell and the functions of the window, driver side mirror and automatic door do not work. Upon inspecting the switch it was noticed the bottom of the circuit board had melted on the left side portion.
While driving my 2006 chevy Trailblazer I noticed the strong smell of an electric fire. Almost immediately after noticing the smell smoke began to come out of the door panel on the drivers side. By the time we were able to pull off the road onto a side street (about 30 seconds) the smell and smoke had increased considerably. We had the vehicle towed to a repair shop and we were told the drivers side window switch went bad and caught fire. We had to have the electrical replaced on the entire driver's side of the vehicle. I noticed that this same issue has been reported by others for chevy Trailblazer's of the same model year and would request this issue continue to be investigated in the event a recall is necessary. Updated 6/26/12.
I have had several problems with my window regulators, I had the switch and electrical replaced on the driver side door and I am having a problem with the window not working again. Also, now the window regulator is broken on the passenger side door. At the same time I am also having an issue with the electrical, I can tell that in combination with the window problems the lighting on the dashboard where the light is dimmed on one side. Overall, the windows are a huge safety concern with the fact they won't roll up or down depending on the issue and I'm concerned with the fire concern because it does it appear when the dealership fixed the driver side window there appeared to be melting of something that could have been burnt.
Pe12003 my Trailblazer 06 window automatically went up and I could smell burning, I made the kids get out of the car and I had my dad search. The door panel was popped off, the switch had melted and burned a hole into the white insulation, now nothing works on the Trailblazer driver side door. I notified the cac and sent pictures. They told me there was no recall on the vehicle. I don't have the money to get it fixed so it is still not functioning. Updated 6/26/12.
My husband was driving with the whole family in the car, it was raining that morning and only a minute into our drive, the drivers door window rolled down by itself. . . He pushed the switch for the window to go back up. . The window went back up and not even 30seconds later it rolled down again on its own. . . At about the same time smoke started billowing out of the drivers door, the smoke filled the car, it smelled like an electrical fire. We were only a block from home so we took the car home, pulled the interior from the door where we discovered the switches that control the locks, windows, and side mirrors were all melted and still smoking. . . We disconnected all the switches and are without use of any drivers door electrical switches.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that before exiting the vehicle, he smelled smoke and noticed smoke coming from the driver's side door. The vehicle was inspected by the owner and he saw that the smoke was coming from the power window switch. The driver's side door power window switch was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
Power window control on the passenger door started on fire and melted some of the door panel and window control module and wiring harness. The vehicle has the heated seat buttons on the window control module. (p/n 15096223). The vehicle had been parked in front of the house (no keys in ignition) when the window started going up and down by itself and smoke started flowing out. Completely melted the front 4pin connecter and wiring harness I still have the melted part if needed for anything. I found it interesting that you have now opened up an investigation on 2006-2007 models on the drivers door. I had did a few internet searches looking for recalls or such. Did find a couple post where similar things had happened to others where others had stated having to do with water coming in the window and shorting the switch (if this helps) thanks.
I was going into the drive through bank window and when I went to open my window it would not go down. The other windows worked but not from the main switch. I called the dealer and they said I need a new module which is going to cost me $300 to replace which I do not have . After doing some research this seems to be a problem with this model.
Power window switch melted and scorched door driver side.
I noticed an article on fox news about an investigation regarding door fires. I would like to report that issue happening to me about a year ago. The problem started intermittently where the window/door switches would not work. After dealing with that problem for a couple of months I got in my truck one morning and could tell it smelled like an electrical fire. From that point none of the windows or door locks worked and I could see some brown discoloration that had come up between the door and the panel for the door switches on the drivers side door. I pulled the switch panel up and there was a hole on the side of the switch panel and part of the plug was melted where the very small fire had occurred. I ordered a new switch panel from a dealer and had the dealer flash it so it would work in my truck and so far so good. I may have the old switch panel in my garage if needed for anything.
The driver's side window relay switch is bad. I have had several quotes from dealerships and looks like the cost is around $400. 00. (for them to replace and reprogram). There is a huge safety issue if you cannot roll down your window on the driver's side and roll down and lock or unlock any of the doors or windows from the driver's side as well. I have read many complaints on various websites from consumers with the same problem. With the majority of these switches going bad, they need to recall this, as it is very costly andnot at all safe. Especially if an officer needs to approach you and you have to open your door first. That could lead to an unsafe incident toward yourself as well as any law enforcement agent. If you can please address this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. I have researched any recall on this and have not had any luck. Thank you for your time in addressing this issue.

At 45,000 miles I have had to have the tierods replaced and there is still something wrong with the passenger side wheel assembly, but they can't seem to figure out what the squeak is. It could be a bearing I have been told, but they don't know without tearing it all down. 2nd is the power window on the drivers side is getting slower to come up and I can smell wires burning at times (although I am not sure if the 2 are related) I have also had to replace the "idler pulley" at 42,000 miles. . . . . This seems ridiculous as it keeps turning out to be one thing after another?????.
When I started care on above date I smelt something hot looked under hood saw nothing. After entering car realized the electric window control switches on driver side was the issue it was hot and smoldering. Smoke by then was entering car. I pulled over and called a friend mechanic who took the melted part out and unplugged electric wires. I was told it would cost $1500 to replace and do not have that kind of money.
On vacation with my family last summer the windows upon entering the vehicle started to go up and down all by themselves. It almost caught my sons arm inside of it. After a few minutes the windows stopped and remained down. We couldn't get them to go back up for a few hours and had to leave them down overnight. The next morning my husband went out, turned the key, pushed the buttons and they all went back up. He told us not to touch the windows just in case weren't able to get them back up. Once we returned from vacation I took it to a suggested mechanic as per my warranty company. They diagnosed it as the master window switch, the gentlemen told me that they are about 2-3 hundred dollars and are not covered under warranty, imagine that!well I paid the gentlemen for his time and have been without windows for over a year now because I make my 500 payment every month and do not have the extra money not only for the part but then for labor and to have it programmed by an authorized dealer. Now I see that this is a common problem with this year Trailblazer, are we waiting for someone to die before we issue a recall? I sent an email to gm about it and they did contact me, what they said is to once again have it diagnosed at an authorized gm dealer (ok more $) then they would look at the report and if they ok it I would then be reimbursed for everything (ok good one) I just had it diagnosed and still have the report but I need to get another one, come on people I don't make your salary and have 2 kids to support! . So I took it, well when I talked to the gm dealer they said just to look at it will be about 100 so I cancelled the appointment. That is very sad that gm would knowingly let this go on with out offering to fix the problem. I will never buy another gm motors vehicle in my life, sad to say that I will be buying not made in the USA vehicles from here on out. ## VIN passed ## chevy Trailblazer 2007 ## updated 8/22/12.
While driving the, window switch began to smoke so I physically removed the switch and have since not had power window access on the passenger side front door. The cost to replace was too great and at the bottom of the priority list. More recently, maybe 2 months ago, the driver side switch showed signs of the same results after a smell of burning electronics and heat to the touch so I simply unplugged the switch all together. The cost to replace these switches is quite significant and have not had any luck with Chevrolet in the past with complaints so I figured I would wait until I had a little extra money to replace these switches. On the news today I heard the end of a report and only caught the words gm and window switches so I came home and searched and came across so articles involving 2006 models. That is how I came across this website. I would very much hate to find out that the company does not know the problem exists further than 2006. An unrelated problem I encountered with the vehicle, which was quite unnerving, was that the third brake light assembly came off while driving on a local highway at @ 65 mph approximately 2 years ago. The fixture became un attached from the passenger side and was "flapping" off the driver's side. Only for a matter of time, I'm sure. Luckily our family was being followed by another family and they notified us by cell phone and we were able to remove the fixture without incident on the shoulder. It would have caused serious problems without doubt had it come completely off. When we notified the dealership, they told us we were out of our warranty and were on our own. Thank you for taking the time to try to make our highways safer!.
First occurrence, driver window would not go down early summer 2010. I brought it into the chevy I bought my car from and the window part was replaced. From time to time I would smell burning but I didn't think it was my car, it didn't happen every time I was driving so I couldn't explain it to chevy. I got into an accident January 2012 and had to bring it to a body repair shop and thy noticed the driver door electrical system has melted. Since it's a 2007 my warranty is expired and I paid the body shop to replace the part $425. I called chevy because I saw in the news that these parts are being investigated for catching on fire and they said that the next time I smell burning or melting I need to bring it to them right away.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact started the ignition. The automatic driver side window was nonfunctional when activated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The failure was an electrical issue. The vehicle remained at the authorized dealer for an extended period of four months in which there was no sufficient remedy for the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 67,000.
