Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have reported 6 problems related to speedometer/odometer failure (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
This is an intermittent problem with this vehicle. I am 3rd owner. 2nd owner had same problem. The speedometer fails to register correct speed. I am currently using a automotive scan tool to verify actual speed. The most interesting thing about this is it does not occur all of the time. Just when I am getting 19. 5 mph or better with a lot of traffic. 1 week ago I had 20 vehicles in back of me. Turns out my speedometer was 20 miles an hour off. I was going 35 in a 55 mph zone. Good thing I had my scan tool with me. This is a problem gm has recalled other vehicles for. My question is why the NHTSA is allowing this. These are the same clusters that were recalled for the silverado. Why even have an agency as important as this one if it does not do anything about all of these complaints. There are many speedometer complaints. Gm says replace the cluster . It still works some of the time so what is the real issue. It should have completely failed by now if it were electrical or mechanical. The owner should not have to pay for this. Why discriminate against tailblazer owners. Not even an investigation.

I own a 2005 Trailblazer ext and the speedometer does not work. It is a chronic problem according to research that I have conducted. It is a safety issue as well. Gm needs to take responsibility and recall the instrument cluster. The speedometer fails everytime that I drive it. The dealership stated that the cluster is going to run about $400, which does not include labor.

After filling up my gas tank the fuel sensor read empty and the gas light was on. Also, whiel driving the fuel sensor would jump around showing empty, full and the gas light would come on. The vehcile was still under warranty at the time so I took it to the dealership to have it repaired. The service rep at the dealership inidcated that it was a common problem with the fuel sensor and it would need to be replaced. He mentioned that I was lucky the vehicle was still under warranty because the repair was very costly. My vehicle occassionaly lurches when it put inot gear from being parked or idle as if it wants to just take off right away. I contacted gm on this and they stated there was nothing they could do, but I have researched and found that many others have has this same problem. Another issude I have had was my speedometer and entire dash cluster failing. While driving on the interstate my speedometer jumped to over 100 mph and then back down to 0. At that point it stopped working for a few minutes then started working properly again. Finally it stopped working altogether. I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the enitre cluster panel which cost me around $800. 00. Again, he did some research and found this to be a common problem. I sent gm a letter with a copy of the repair bill along with documentation of the many complaints I found online with the same issue. I heard nothing. I reached out with a phone call and was told the issue did not warrant a recall. This could be a serious safety issue. Please consider a recall as it apperas this vehicle was just poorly made and many other people are experiencing the same issues.
The fuel guage stopped working in my vehichle and by the time the recall occurred in 2013, my vehichle has more than the limited mileage of 120,000 or less to pay for ha;f the repair cost. The speedometer failed to work at all back in 2009 as well.
Issue originally occurring in 2008. Speedometer failed. . . First getting stuck then not returning to zero. When turning vehicle on again, speedometer would sporadically work, then get stuck, then stay on zero. Brought to 2 chevy dealerships while still under warranty (purchased extended warranty on date of purchase) and was told "the problem could not be reproduced", so nothing could be done. The problem was intermittent, as well as "service engine light" going on for periods of time . . . . Again checked by gm dealerships and other mechanics but nothing found. Here we are in 2012, I recently started driving this vehicle again as my husband was driving it and apparently didn't mind the speedometer not working at times, but, with his unexpected death in November, and my son away at college, I had planned to give the vehicle to my son to take to college, but no speedometer is definitely a problem. As I am researching this issue I am seeing many consumers have had the same experience. Why has this not been a recall by gm. There are claims of other mechanics being able to repair this issue at a pretty hefty cost. I am in no position to pay for a repair of something that should have been taken care of under the warranty we purchased, which, by the way was not cheap. Is not safety something gm has on its' priority list. Driving with no ability to know how fast or slow you are traveling is definitely an issue. I request an investigation be launched to determine the cause of this defect, which I have no doubt will result in a gm recall to repair this safety issue.

2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 4wd speedometer failed as driving down the freeway. Was going approxiamately 60 mph and speedometer registerd 10 mph. It corrected it self and for a couple days it was fine again. Then it started repeating same failure, and stayed the same. It was taken into a GMC dealer and the repair was done. The speedometer was replaced, with a total bill of $463. 09, paid my myself, since the warranty was just barely over.
