2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

The check engine light was going on and off for several weeks. Sometimes the vehicle seemed to lose some power while driving. Took to mechanic to have it diagnosed. Code p0008 appears to be worn timing chaining. I have spoken to two independent mechanics as well as a chevy dealership - all have told me that the timing chain should last the life of the vehicle. A google search informed me that this appears to be a common issue with the chevy Traverse. In fact, early models received an extended warranty for this issue. This warranty needs to be extended to other years as well.

3 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

Without warning, I get an alert on my information panel that stabilitrak is off and traction control needs servicing. At the same time, the vehicle downshifts hard and rapidly decelerates. Several months ago, the check engine light started coming on at random times resulting in an emission error code. The catalytic converter was replaced. A month later, same error code. This current problem happens frequently at various speeds while in motion only.

4 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

Check engine light came on about a month later took the vehicle to a local mechanic and was told the engine was blown. 3 cylinders were checked and had low compression and was told it could have caused the motor to stall while driving and to not drive it any more due to the dangerous condition this could cause. Never received any indication there was a catastrophic issue with the motor, never received low oil or high temp nothing?.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Vehicle had had been shuddering and misfiring on and off for quite some time, check engine light came on, took to shop for diagnosis. Shop stated codes were related to stretched timing chains. I then took to dealer, got same diagnosis and a $2,000 estimate. Had repairs done. Check engine light has not come back on since. Car would hesitate and loose power attempting to accelerate when taking off in traffic. Felt unsafe driving, as I never knew when car was going accelerate or not.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2017

I had to replace an engine at 30k miles due to 'metal in oil". Never once missed an oil change and no warning of any issue until car died in the middle of a busy road while trying to turn right onto side street. . After replacing engine had to get new wheel senors as they went bad 2 weeks later. One and a half years later here we are dash flashing saying 'service stabilitrack, service traction control, engire power reduces". Check engine light also on. Mechanic says I will need a new accelorator pedal along with throttle body. The car itself at this point is under 50k miles. Also passenger side window does not go up or down with drive side door levers.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

My 2011 chevy Traverse had the check engine light go on at just under 40,000 miles on error p0017. A cam shaft sensor was replaced only to have the light emit again 2 weeks later. Now the car is reading 2 codes. One is still the p0017 and now a p0008. The timing chain is a well known issue with this engine and gm still hasn't issued a recall. There are people with complaints that are over 2 years old. The cars run extremely rough while driving, use excessive gas and have been known to completely shut off while driving. This needs to be recalled on these engines.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

My check engine light came on at 95000 miles code pooo8. I took the car to the dealer and they said it needed trimming chains. My guys told me it might be covered but after checking my bin it was not covered. He told me it was a problem with with these motors but my VIN was not included in the recall and it would be 2500 dollars to fix a four year old car. Gm would not do anything to help me.

13 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

My wife and children were driving our 2011 Traverse, when the traction control started to turn off and on, check engine light went on, displays started to roll through a number of warnings, and engine power was reduced and the car slowed to roughly 25 mph. This all occurred in the middle of traffic. The concern is that the sporadic lose of engine power dropping a car from 60 mph to 25 mph will cause an accident.

14 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

I was driving on the 95 and suddenly my car was flashing reduced engine power and the check engine light popped on. Our speed dropped all the way down to 20 from 65. I have seven children who driving in the car with me and were horrified at all the traffic around us while we tried to coast to the side. Thank god no one hit us! the check engine light is still on and we have replaced the trottle body, fuel pump, and a few other thing that popped up on the diagnostic testing for the check engine light. 16 codes popped up all at the same time. Way too expensive to fix everything and pay payments or the car still. Please help.

15 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2014

Use remote starter. After a few minutes of warming up unlocked and entered vehicle. Once key turned to on doors started to lock and unlock. Put car in reverse barely moved. Tried drive and would not move? check engine light, stability track lights are on. Not good when you need to get to work.

16 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

I was driving at 65 mph, and hit a small bump where a bridge ends and the pavement resumes. The check engine light came on as well as service stabiltrak and reduced engine power indicators. I was able to limp the vehicle to the local dealership for repairs, but at a very reduced speed. The dealer found that the "throttle position sensor" to be faulty, and after replacing that item the vehicle ran normally. This was not covered under warranty. The repair cost was $540. I am told that these are a common problem both by the dealer as well as by an independent shop. I am surprised that: 1. A part such as this is failing in a vehicle with so few miles 2. That this was not covered under any type of warranty.

17 Check Engine Light On problem
