Started my car and it made a noise that didnt sound good. Took it to van Chevrolet and they said it was my turbo. My car is under 100,000 miles, 2019, and giving the code that should qualify it on the recall list. They are trying to charge me 4000 to fix and have not given a rental which is about to make me lose everything.

The engine failed at approximately 44,000 miles. The vehicle uses a wet timing belt engine design, where the timing belt runs inside the engine oil. The engine suddenly stopped working and now requires a full engine replacement. This failure happened much earlier than expected for a modern vehicle and could be a safety risk if the engine fails while driving.
Every winter because of the cold weather the tube for the turbo cracks and causes performance problems such as lack of throttle, sluggishness, limp mode activates. In limp mode the vehicle will only go about 10 miles per hour. This has happened on multiple occasions. In the warmer weather this problem does not arise. It is only in the winter time because the particular tube is made from plastic which breaks in cold weather. Q.

My check engine light went on and stayed on while I was driving. I called blaise alexander, altoona, PA. Reported and scheduled a checkup on Dec. 11. I drove to the garage, arriving at 10am. And noticed a smell of fire and saw smoke billowing out around the hood of the car. I ran into service area and told them the car must be on fire. They called the altoona fire dept. The police gave me a number, which I gave state farm insurance. I drove approximately 23 miles along rt I 99 to reach the garage. Apparently there is a history of 2024 and 2025 Trax models having fires in the engine. Possibly associated with the fuel system.

For the past 3 to 6 months I've been hearing a gear backlash sound while using the adaptive cruise control when it would slow down for a car in front of the vehicle then when it would start to speed up. Brought the vehicle to the dealership on October 20th, 2025. They said that the sound is normal and there's a service bulletin that says its normal in other chevy models. Then on November 28th, 2025 I was driving home, turn right at a light, and started to accelerate. Then I heard the same backlash noise as before then the check engine light came on with the oil light. I pulled over immediately and turned off the engine just to see all the oil spilling out of the engine compartment onto the ground and white smoke. Got it towed to the dealership and they told me that "the engine had multiple components fail inside it and that I need a new engine assembly. " currently the engine is still in the vehicle awaiting a new engine assembly what is currently on backorder with no expected arrival time.
Bought 6/17/2023 with 81k miles (1. 4l turbo). By ~7/1/2023 it ran rough and hesitated after refueling. Firestone (brick, NJ, 7/5/2023 at 82,090 miles) said radiator leaking; keep topping off; noted open chevy “special coverage” bulletin. Over ~2 years kept adding coolant (high consumption). Rough running worsened. Lester glenn chevy (toms river, NJ, 10/20/2025 at 122,815 miles) replaced the evaporative emissions purge valve under special coverage n212338400; fixed post-refuel roughness but not overall rough running. Regular oil changes; last 10/1/2025 at 121,872 miles. Codes then: p0171, p0299, p0300, p0442, p0449, p0496. On 11/27/2025, at ~60 mph uphill on the garden state parkway, engine shook, dash showed “engine power reduced/service stabilitrak” (cel blinking), lost acceleration. Pulled over and towed; white smoke at tailpipe. Tow driver suspected coolant ingestion/head-gasket failure needing engine replacement. Odometer: 124,180. Traded in on 11/29/2025 at automotive avenues (wall, NJ); no manufacturer/police/insurance inspection.
To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally request reimbursement or goodwill assistance for the repair of the turbocharger on my Chevrolet Trax, which failed unexpectedly and caused my vehicle to stall in the middle of the freeway, creating a serious safety hazard. I had previously reported concerns related to the turbo, and after the failure occurred, I learned that general motors issued a special coverage adjustment for turbocharger malfunction on certain Chevrolet Trax vehicles. Unfortunately, I never received any notification or letter informing me of this coverage. Had I been made aware, I would have taken appropriate action prior to the failure. Because this vehicle was my only means of transportation, I had no choice but to immediately repair it at my own expense. I later contacted gm customer assistance to inquire about reimbursement and was informed that my request was denied solely due to the vehicle exceeding 120,000 miles, despite the fact that: this is a known defect the failure resulted in a dangerous loss of power while driving I was never notified of the special coverage I was also advised that the notification was sent by a government department, yet no department could be identified, and despite multiple requests, I have not received a call back from a manager. Given the seriousness of the safety risk, the lack of notice, and the documented nature of this defect, I am respectfully requesting that gm reconsider my case for reimbursement or goodwill assistance for the turbocharger repair. I have attached copies of my repair invoice, proof of payment, and vehicle documentation for your review. I would appreciate escalation of this matter to a senior advisor or district manager for further consideration. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] 2017, chevy Trax [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

While driving in the highway vehicle lost power and gray smoke came out off the exhaust, it was hard to accelerate and tcs warning light and check engine light popped up. Tcs warning light extinguished but check engine light still on. Cars behind me could have hit me from behind, because it was a sudden loss of speed, it made other drivers switch lanes creating the risk of crashing others or myself. I have taken the car to a mechanics and some say it’s the turbo and others say they don’t know what it can be and can’t really help me.

Serra chevy has my Trax. A mechanic checked it it is blown engine. No time frame for an engine. I believe a fail msg flashed after engine failed all systems stopped I pulled to side of road oil pouring out from under my vehical. I was driving on expressway (approx 70 mi per hour) approx 1 1/2 hour drive to dinner theater 120 miles away. I was 5 mins away from destination. I paid 120. 00 plus ins covered miles towed. No fires just whitish grey smoke from engine. . . I was shocked my new car was failing.
I am reporting a safety concern involving my 2025 Chevrolet Trax 2rs (VIN: [xxx] ). After a service visit at autonation Chevrolet spokane valley concerning all the following issues on October 31, 2025 (repair order #xxx), the lane keep assist system stopped functioning entirely after that being the main concern I was going into the dealership to get resolved once it tried to automatically steer me into the other lane at 60mph almost causing a life threatening collision. Prior to the visit, the system worked but was malfunctioning— the dashboard displayed the green lane symbol, and the activation button engaged the feature. After service, the symbol no longer appears, and the button lights up but does not activate the system. This change was not authorized, not documented in the repair order, and was never disclosed to me. I believe the lane keep assist system was intentionally disabled or tampered with during service, which poses a serious safety risk. I am also experiencing other unresolved issues including engine ticking, dashboard brightness malfunction, infotainment freezing, and transmission hesitation. I am requesting a formal investigation into whether this dealership improperly disabled a federally regulated safety feature without consent or disclosure. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired; however, the contact was provided with error codes related to the failure. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the engine and turbocharger had failed due to oil circulation failure. The contact was informed that the engine and turbocharger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
I began experiencing multiple mechanical and safety-related issues within the first few hundred miles of ownership. These include a persistent metallic ticking noise from the engine compartment, sluggish acceleration, infotainment screen freezing and bluetooth malfunction, lane keep assist attempting to steer the vehicle into another lane at highway speeds, and a non-responsive brightness knob. These issues pose safety risks and match known gm bulletins (e. G. , 23-na-094, 24-na-242, 24-na-063, pit6362). I’ve scheduled my first service appointment for October 31, 2025, and installed a dash cam to document future incidents. I am concerned about the vehicle’s reliability and safety.
Engine light with p0299 code: turbocharger/supercharger underboost. Car had hard time accelerating, especially going up the hills. Turbocharge by-pass valve replaced at a service center. Engine light came on again 2 weeks later when getting onto the freeway, attempting to accelerate to 70 mph. Same p0299 code. No prior concerns or symptoms, the car is under 89,000 miles.
My engine light came on said I loss power car felt like I couldn't get up to speed . When I took it to the dealership they said my wastegate is cracked and I need a new turbo assembly my car has 76k miles & of course warranty expired at 75k said it will cost $2600 to repair.

The catalytic converter is failing and there is an oil leak somewhere within the engine system that is producing a burning smell from the heating vents.
Check engine light keeps coming on. Crankshaft sensor is the problem according to the code but the dealership says it’s the catalyst converter. Also my low power engine light came on.

Apple carplay exits when I tap on it. Also air vents have air coming from them even though I have a/c off. Transmissions jerks when it’s cold.
Bought my car June 3 2025. 8-10-25 at the dealer for another issue I mentioned about hear a squeek in the engine compartment, more so with the air on. Dealer stats can't hear squeek. Had to take back again on 9-9 for the other issue again and told dealer about still hearing squeek. Dealer stats can't hear unless removing oil cap and that there is a TSB that it's normal? stated my mother's 25 year old car does not squeek and I don't think a new car should squeek. Dealer stated again, said to be normal.
While accelerating from a tertiary road (45mph) to a highway (60mph), the engine suddenly produced a loud rhythmic clacking sound that increased in frequency based on rpms. No warnings or check engine light was activated. No increase in temp or change to oil pressure was noted. The vehicle was driven approximately 6 miles with no change in the sound. Vehicle was parked and sat for 2 hours. Vehicle was restarted. Sound continued. Vehicle was driven for approximately . 3 miles when a warning came across the dash and an alarm sounded. It indicated no oil and to immediately halt driving. Continued for an additional . 3 miles to a safe pull off point and parked the car. The oil level was checked and the dipstick measurement indicated a full oil reservoir. The following day the vehicle was towed to ig burton Chevrolet in lewes DE. Due to scheduling the vehicle was not diagnosed for 1 week. Initially the diagnosis was a faulty oil pump. Upon further exploration metal components were found within the oil pump that fell into it from the engine. The service department determined that a full engine replacement was required and would covered under warranty.
On my two thousand seventeen, Chevrolet tracks is not listed under the recalls. But what the recall has listed, those are the exact problems wrong with my car. What can I do about it.
I purchased the vehicle oct. 19, 2023. I use the vehicle likely more than 99% of other owners. I drive for amazon flex and had 54546 miles when I did my last oil change. I have changed the oil every 5000-7500 miles, including changing air filters regularly and spark plugs at 50,000. I also have always used higher quality oils from mobil1 and acdelco in the engine. This past weekend, a check engine light appeared and reduced power was noticed. The following day after restarting the car, the check engine light went away. It came back the following morning on the way to work, and went away after restarting in the afternoon. Code p0325 was the dtc for a knock sensor fault. During this time the mil was illuminated, a slight metallic rattle sound was present at certain rpms, but not loud or consistent. The same day after the last oil change and after delivering when going to moderatly accelerate to highway speeds, a sound characterized as a loud pop and bang occurred and smoke started flooding out of the engine. Reduced engine power and check engine lights appeared on the dash and the screens when black. I immediately braked and pulled to the side of the highway, where coolant and oil were flooding the side of the road. The vehicle is currently at the dealership where it was purchased, where I am expecting the “total engine faliure” diagnosis.
Purchased the 2024 Trax in April 2024 and immediately received a critical engine and transmission notification the same day we took delivery. Returned the vehicle to the dealership and was told it was an faulty oil sensor issue, which they took care of. The car now has ~9,500 miles and the engine failed yesterday. While accelerating on the freeway, we heard a loud pop, saw smoke coming from the engine and tail pipe, the engine light and oil light came on, and a message on the dashboard said to turn off the engine immediately. The engine seized and began leaking all of the oil/fluid out onto the pavement. We had to pull onto the left shoulder of the freeway because the engine seized, which is extremely dangerous (the tow truck driver was nearly hit trying to load the vehicle onto the flatbed tow truck). The Trax had just been serviced at a local dealership for scheduled maintenance (oil and filter change, tire rotation and 27-point vehicle inspection) on Friday, August 8th. The car was towed back to the same dealership, at which time we were informed that a rod was loose inside the engine and created a hole, which caused the engine to run on 2 cylinders and fail. The dealer claims the damage is unrelated to the recent oil change and confirmed that they did not inspect the engine during the scheduled maintenance appointment. We pay for onstar and receive monthly vehicle health reports. Besides the critical engine and transmission notice we received when we first picked up the vehicle and a recall notice - which we had resolved - there have been no other messages or symptoms before yesterday's engine failure. The vehicle is still at the dealership and we are waiting to hear how this situation will be resolved.
When putting shell premium gas I noticed my cars rmps is way lower than usually and my acceleration is a lot slower/delayed I never had this problem when I put regular and midgrade (plus) gas furthermore I noticed I got a weird b3935 error check code but I don’t think that’s related to the gas though.
We’ve only had the vehicle for a few months and while we were driving the engine rod basically broke in pieces damaging the engine and almost causing us to wreck. After looking at the other gm engines being recalled for engine rod issues and complete engine failure. This sounds like the same incident and needs to also be added to this. It’s put us out and almost caused us to wreck after only 11k miles on the vehicle.
The vehicle shut off completely while driving twice in 24 hours. Lost all power, brakes locked up, first incident on July 26, 2025. Vehicle did restart after and was able to drive home. Would not start, had no power on July 26, 2025. Tow truck came, jump started the vehicle. I pulled out of my driveway to take it to the dealer for service of issue, vehicle shut off as soon as I pressed the brake to stop at a stop sign and lost all power again. Brakes also locked up again after the vehicle lost power. Tow truck transported vehicle to the dealer from there.
The coolant reservoir is missing hoses which are supposed to be connected. The head gasket is completely blown out, which is under warranty. Excessive overheating—three signs light up on the dashboard: red thermometer indicating an overheating engine; check engine light; and check engine light with arrow pointing downward indicating engine speed to be reduced. Trax stopped in the middle of the traffic light on and 7/26/25 and had it towed.
Had to have the turbobooster on a 2017 chevy Trax LS replaced under 120,000 miles $3722 was the cost of repair.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that upon parking the vehicle on a downward angle, there was an abnormal popping sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the infotainment screen intermittently went blank while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that on one occasion, while driving 50 mph and entering a highway, there was a banging sound coming from the vehicle, with white smoke coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact immediately pulled over and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the vehicle was towed to a dealer. While at the dealer, the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was then informed that the engine was on backorder, and the vehicle remained with the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated while her niece was driving 40 mph, she noticed coolant leaking from the engine. The check engine light illuminated. The contact mention the vehicle was still drivable until she got to the residences. The contact mention she did add coolant to the engine few minutes later the contact noticed coolant was leaking in the driveway. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not taken a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnoses. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and they informed the contact there were no recalls associated with his VIN and his vehicle was out of warranty. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 87,000.

I was on the expressway and going the speed limit at 70mph and I get an engine light and a message that says engine power is reduced. I had to quickly get over and was almost hit because it wasn’t wanting to stay at speed. I was unable to go over 55mph. It was very dangerous situation. I drove to the next exit and called dealership and made appt for the following Monday. I get the car home and we put the odmi reader on it and it says air intake problems. My car is at 28,882 miles there is no reason the turbo has already gone out.
Turbo has failed twice causing loss of power and it is extremely dangerous on highway. As it takes considerable amount of time to reach highway speeds. And the risk for getting in an accident is very high. There shouldn't be a turbo replacement every 4 months. Considering each replacement at the dealership ~ $2000. I find it hard to fathom how the 2017-2018 Chevrolet Trax get special coverage up to 120,000 mi. For failed turbo chargers yet I have the same scenario for a 2020 Trax. But everything is out of my pocket . I have a [xxx] son and would prefer not to tell his mom we were rear ended due to a sudden lose of power in a vehicle that is becoming completely unsafe. When driving my car around a 15 mile drive my car displays a engine overheating - idle engine message on my dash display and I go straight home to inspect the car and notice as shown in the photo I took the cap slowly after the car cooled down and I refilled it with antifreeze and close it and the hose/cable for the antifreeze was squeezing in antifreeze normally it would be out and took it for a little drive and someone from the outside of the car too see for any leaks it wasn’t leaking visibly it seems to be internal or a thermostat issue when driving for 5 minutes almost all of my antifreeze was drained this can be a safety issue especially if I kept driving as the engine would most likely stop to prevent engine could be especially harmful if I was on the turnpike or expressway.
Check engine light came on 5/22/25 sitting idle when I went on lunch at 1:00 pm. I left work and came home at 5:00 pm and made it home safely not sure what the failure is yet I will call the dealer in the morning. Car only has 28,000 miles on it and should not already be having engine issues. Also has dramatic drop in gas mileage.
