Equipment Problems of Chevrolet Trax - part 1

My check engine light keeps staying on I go and have it scanned and they tell me it's sensors so each time I change my sensors the check engine light comes back on again, not sure how many sensor is that I have to keep changing in order for my check engine light to go off and I'm not sure if there's a problem with the diagnose of the engine light so I wanted to know if other people are having the same problem as me I can't keep paying to change all these sensors and each time I have it scan it shows up some more so I'm thinking it must be misdiagnosing something that's why I'm checking if there was any other complaints or recalls on this thank you very much.

Parked vehicle fire that happened approximately 8-9 hours after parking it. Neighbors woke me up at 4:30am after hearing a loud boom. When I went outside the whole front end was engulfed in flames. Fire investigators said it started in the engine compartment and moved to the inside of the vehicle. No foul play suspected. There were no warning signs leading up to this. I kept up with all maintenance and had no aftermarket additions. Luckily no one was injured but if I had been inside the vehicle when it happened the electric locks likely wouldn't have worked and I'd have little time to evacuate. The heat damaged a neighbors car. I read that recently there was a lawsuit being filed in delaware involving my type of vehicle. Im currently dealing with gm and trying to get reimbursed because my vehicle was still under warranty. Total loss. Im trying to preserve vehicle for inspection however it is in my apartment complex parking lot and they would like it removed.

The bluethood and carplay not work everytime I conect and driving long drives take me out I can cinect back and driving I don't feel save drving with the map using my carplay take me out so for safty I use my phone insted I car bcs I try to ge some on time and follow the map but take out and I don't where to you get distrstive no redcomend usinf the carplay map no safe is better to use the phone my point is I am paying for this to carplay to work and I can't use it I am goimg to call lemon law th4y sell me a difect car can be fix is not working correct I have this issiue for almos a year my car is a 2025 Chevrolet Trax activ I take 4 time to the dealear to fix it but they told they can't and call more then 20 time to on star and still have the issue.

I think it is crazy that my 2020 chevy Trax doesnt have a temperature garage, there was a 2019 recall concerning leaking coolant, and I believe a recall on something dealing with the oil cap or component all of which I am having problems with. First in February of 2026 I was on a busy multiple lane express way and all of a sudden my coolant image warning light came on and indicated :engine overheating idle engine". No pre-warning or nothing , no temperature gauge to even see if the car was running hot. So I had to merge over 3 lanes at night on a busy highway in order to get off on the next exit. My issue was my coolant reservoir only had a spoon full of coolant all the coolant was gone. The shop told me my water pump was leaking and that was causing the coolant leak. This was repaired. A month later I have another coolant leak in a different spot and now I have oil leaking from somewhere. Firestone told me there is a oil cap or component recall but I can't find any recall on an oil component using my VIN numbers. This is so disappointing that I've only had this car for 4 years and 3 months and I'm having these issues related to recalls and complaints ive seen from other owners.

While driving on the highway the car lost complete power. I could not even turn on my hazards. After a few minutes, the car made a sound and the screen turned back and I was able to turn the car back on. But it was extremely dangerous and I could have been hurt of killed. I have read this was an issue with the 2024 Trax but it appears this is an ongoing issue.

While driving on the interstate vehicle begin to surge and lag with a check engine light appearing. Vehicle never became disabled but after reading it sounds like this a very known issue with Trax’s. Chevy app stated it was the emissions control system which is most common for purge valve failure. Gm needs to issue a recall as the purges valve in every Trax is defective just like the did with earlier models.

My check engine light came on, I took my vehicle to ken ganley Chevrolet because that is where I purchased it. They claim they have no record I bought it there and at first refused service. I provided my loan documents that state I purchased it. Tim was in the service department, I brought the car in and he had it looked at. He said the issue is the turbocharger, which is a known issue with this year/make/model that gm knows about. The repair was under warranty, completed and the car returned to me. Less than 2 weeks later the check engine light came on and the diagnostic gave the same error. I took it back to the dealership and I got 3 different answers. One person told me it was an exhaust issue that was causing the turbo to overheat (the car is kicking out excessive amounts of carbon monoxide), the second person told me there was no issue and they weren't sure why the check engine light went off, the third person said it seemed like the exhaust and the overheating was a safety issue and it shouldn't be driven. They ultimately refused the repair and said bring it back if it gets worse. I called gm corporate to report the dealership and ask for an actual repair. They told me to take it to another dealership to be looked at. Multiple other dealerships have refused because the case is open with the original dealership. That ken ganley Chevrolet dealer is refusing to acknowledge a repair is needed. The car is continuing to kick out excessive carbon monoxide and smells like burning when driving. The engine chugs and doesn't get up to full speed. I requested goodwill reimbursement for part of the car from gm for failure to service and an unsafe vehicle and they have offered no solution because other dealers won't give a second opinion. The car is not safe to drive and is not being repaired.

While driving in the highway vehicle lost power and gray smoke came out off the exhaust, it was hard to accelerate and tcs warning light and check engine light popped up. Tcs warning light extinguished but check engine light still on. Cars behind me could have hit me from behind, because it was a sudden loss of speed, it made other drivers switch lanes creating the risk of crashing others or myself. I have taken the car to a mechanics and some say it’s the turbo and others say they don’t know what it can be and can’t really help me.

My display screen that shows the speed, odometer intermittently stops working, preventing me from seeing anything on the screen.

My engine light came on said I loss power car felt like I couldn't get up to speed . When I took it to the dealership they said my wastegate is cracked and I need a new turbo assembly my car has 76k miles & of course warranty expired at 75k said it will cost $2600 to repair.

On October 8, 2025 my cousin, elicia smith, and I were on highway mile 113, 65 north and were about to exit when an ambulance exited onto the highway ahead causing the traffic to suddenly stop. As it stopped, I hit my brake, which usually jolts when I hit it but it didn't this time, the brake didn't feel the same it felt like my car wasn't stopping. The warning that usually goes off didn't go off either. My car hit a Jeep that was in front of me at a speed of about 55 to 60 mph yet none of my airbags diployed. We smelled fire and saw some smoke but couldn't see over the hood that had been bent up, both of our seatbealts had been stretched out so that when we took them off, we could not put them back on, and the adjuster I had on my seatbealt to keep it off my shoulder completely broke off. I pull over as far as I could safely since I couldn't see. The driver of the Jeep got out of her car and inspected it, she came back to the passenger side of my car and said that she was in a rental, there was no damage and couldn't afford to turn in accident in so she had to leave, and left the scene. Both my cousin and I were feeling pain in our chest so when 1st responder came, he called for an ambulance. We were both taken to eskenazi er where my cousin was treated and released the same day. I was admitted into the hospital icu and had emergency spinal cord surgery on October 9, 2025 and wasn't released until October 17, 2025. After the accident, I saw a few messages that were sent to my GMC account inbox dated October 8, 2025 saying that my airbags may need to be serviced, after the accident happened.

My speaker are blown out. They make a rumble noise when I’m driving doesn’t matter my speed.

•the instrument cluster in front of the driver seat went all black. Wouldn't show lane assistance icon, rpms, speedometer, turn signals, warning lights, adaptive speed control. It would show when I clicked the auto stop on/off button if the auto start was turned on or off. Currently is still installed on vehicle. I'm going to the dealership tomorrow after work to see what they will do. •safety of myself by not knowing what speed I'm going or if any warning lights turn on including the brake warning light or the tcs light. Safety of others is the same as safety for myself. •so far the problem is intermittent for me. It happened for the first time today after I left the store, then got home and restarted the engine and it still was a completely black instrument panel. Then I turned it off and disconnected the battery and reconnected it and the instrument panel currently is working again after that. •the component hasn't been inspected by anyone yet but I'm bringing it to the dealership after I get off work. •there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problems prior to the failure. I don't know if there were any when it first appeared because the instrument panel is the problem. . .

Apple carplay exits when I tap on it. Also air vents have air coming from them even though I have a/c off. Transmissions jerks when it’s cold.

Found light to clear oily fluid leaking from passenger side under front fender well after moving vehicle from garage parked location. Unable to determine exact source of leak. Suspect either brake fluid or refrigerant oil. Taking to dealer to address under warranty.

When it rains and or I wash my car, going down the road after at about 35-50 with my sunroof vented or window cracked about an inch, the car makes an awful sound like im gurgling out of a straw. Just completed a buyback with a 24 Trax 2rs and got a 25 2rs with the same sunroof issue. Engineers say its the drain lines being pinched in the pillars but still have yet to get a solution and have to start all over with my new lemon.

On my two thousand seventeen, Chevrolet tracks is not listed under the recalls. But what the recall has listed, those are the exact problems wrong with my car. What can I do about it.

The dash design has a high gloss smooth painted surface with highly polished aluminum trim. The dash is at an angle that reflects light badly blinding the driver. Because the dash is at a similar angle on a large area, sometimes it’s impossible to position your hand to block all of the glare. It’s extremely dangerous when conditions are right. The polished aluminum should be overlaid with a semi gloss plastic trim and the paint needs coated with a clear matting agent to make them safe.

July 24 5:00pm dash go blank. Took to dealer and disconnects battery and reconnects. Comes back on. July 28, dash goes half lite for hour comes back on. July 31, dash goes half lite again, hour later comes back on. Aug. 1, driving local and dash goes half lit again. Go home and next day dash is normal. Aug 19 dash goes to half power again, comes back on hour later. Aug 24 dash goes half lit for 4 hrs. Sept 11, half lit for 1/2 hour, comes back on. Sept 15, driving local dash goes half lit,comes back later in the day.

While driving, all of a sudden dash went blank. No gauges, no speedometer, just a blank screen. I was near the dealer where I had purchased it and drove in. Service dept was closing but a mechanic disconnected the battery and reconnected it and the dash worked. The mechanic said he never heard of this happening before, but when I got home and researched it it has happened before. My wife uses the car to transport our grandkids, and I cannot imagine the screen going blank on the freeway at 65.

Complete bluetooth failure. Apple carplay and android auto constantly disconnect. Has happened since driving off of the lot.

Had to have the turbobooster on a 2017 chevy Trax LS replaced under 120,000 miles $3722 was the cost of repair.

I purchased my vehicle on January 6, 2025. Two days later, the check engine light came on. After struggling to reach anyone at the dealership, I finally got in touch on January 14, and dropped the car off on January 22 for a catalytic converter and a/c issue. On February 23, the check engine light returned with the same code. I brought the car back on March 7, and by may, the light came on again and the a/c failed for a second time. Over 1–2 weeks, I called repeatedly but was either hung up on or transferred with no resolution. On may 23, I had the car checked at an independent shop, who confirmed it was the catalytic converter again and recommended I return to the dealer. I made an appointment online and dropped the car off on may 29. I didn’t hear anything for nearly a week. When I called, the same communication issues happened. On June 3, my sister picked up the car — it was a mess, with the back seat torn apart. I was told it wasn’t the cat but a fuel pump, water pump, and quoted over $2,000. I got a second opinion on June 22. That mechanic said it did not need a fuel pump and that it was the cat — plus spark plugs, coil pack, serpentine belt — none of which had ever been mentioned before. I’ve since spent $600 on repairs that shouldn't be necessary months after purchase. Emails to the service team went unanswered until I followed up. The car also had an ongoing rotten egg smell. On June 30, I was told they’d replace the aftermarket cat with an oem. I emailed asking about the a/c and a service history — no reply. I dropped the car off July 2 or 3, was told it’d be ready July 7, then July 8, then told the issue was actually a cracked turbocharger, not the catalytic converter. I asked if it was safe to drive — the manager said yes, but everything online said otherwise. I was told the part would arrive in 1 day and take 2 days to replace. As of July 15, the car is still not ready. Trenton told me in person the part still hasn’t even arrived and would take 5 more days.

My passenger side door is making a thumping noise and now I have to live with a passenger door thumping when closing.

The vehicle check engine light came on. Engine light is for a repair to the turbo charger. After looking online I noticed some of the 2017 and 2018 chevy Trax cars are afftected however the VIN for my car is not included. I want to report the problem to see if my car can be checked to see if it's a faulty part.

The instrument panel goes blank while driving.

Wiper blades are falling apart, less than a year old. No generic store brand will fit bracket and all wiper blades replacements are on back order.

The backup camera becomes a "fishbowl" along with inability to use radio features. Happens often. There are numerous forum topics via facebook and reddit about it happening. Dealership is no help.

The interior of this car includes many chrome accents. Chrome on the steering wheel, center console around the gear shift, and chrome around the touch screen. When driving, the sun reflects off of the chrome like a laser/mirror, impacting the visibility and safety of the driver. I am looking into ways to "black out" the chrome, but it truly is a safety hazard! Chevrolet should provide a "chrome delete" kit and keep chrome on the exterior, not on the interior.

The instrument panel that shows the tire pressure, speed, oil, mileage etc. Goes blank black then comes back on. Its been happening for a year and I did contacted chevy about it. I waited for them to contact me back but they never did. I have taken it for the oil changes at the dealer but its usually on. I explain to the chevy dealer service about it over the phone, they told me it would cost a certain amount to fix and they needed to do a diagnosis first. This has been going on for 3 years (the turning blank on and off) while driving .

I am very unsure what is going on, but when I am in reverse my whole dash loudly rattles and vibrates the whole car. My front door speakers also keep going out with makes me think we may have a wiring issue.

At random times and unexpectedly, my onstar system drops completely, resulting in onstar losing communication with my vehicle. This creates a hazard, as I am at risk of being in a collision and onstar not being able to be notified.

The front exhaust flex pipe leaked by a corrosive hole that allowed exhaust and CO carbon monoxide to escape making the drivers dizzy, nauseated, and with a headache. This also caused the vehicle to smoke, run rough and stall in traffic. This also required the post 02 sensor to be replaced.
