I bought my Uplander at dealership milage was at 24,000. The door would open and not close we finally got this fixed I hope. Just yesterday at milage 45,000 we had to replace tie rod on passenger side. Found out that it did not have grease pin on it called manufactor and they say someone had to have replaced it. I do not believe it had ever been replaced and this is what is causing tire wear and vibrations in the Uplanders which also could cause accidents even deaths. Also when driving all lights will go off until you hit brakes I have had diagnotics checked to see if anything would show up. Nothing does. So this is a major concern also . There seems to be the same problems listed from almost everyone and some of these things could cost consumers their life or their families. While I like the Uplander I am concerned that the safety issues are not being handled by manufactor and no one seems to care. What will it take to make this vehicle safe.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander. The contact stated that while driving 28 mph, she applied the brakes and the sliding passenger door detached from the vehicle, falling onto the highway. The dealer was notified, but suggested that there would be a cost to repair the vehicle and the contact felt that it was a manufacturer?s defect. The manufacturer was contacted, but offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 70,000. The consumer's insurance company stated it was a manufacturers defect and they would not cover the damage. The consumer stated the vehicle has a severe short, which prevented the door from locking, the lights went off on the dash, and a dinging sound, but nothing happened. It was suppose to make a sound when the door opened, but there was no sound. Every 10-11 months the brakes and rotors had to be replaced and the alternator failed. Updated 07/09/12.
I purchased the vechile in 2010. I didn't have any problems with the doors at this time. About 6 months later they would open by themselves when in park. Or they would not close a dinging noise would sound and the door would open back up when tring to close it. I didn't think much about it at this time because it only did this when in park and after playing with it for a while we could eventually get them to stay closed. Well, a couple of days ago and again today, the door opened while I was driving 65 miles per hour going down the interstate with my 2 kids in the back seat. My daughter who is 6 screamed bloody murder as I panically hit the brakes and telling my other daughter who is 8 to grab her arm, hold tight and do not let go. I got off and pulled to the side of the interstate break down lane. Took a couple of minutes to gather my self and calm my children. I put the kids in the very back and buckled them in. My main concern is my children's safety. I bought this van for the family and it has now turned into a horrible nightmare. I am now putting the kids in the very back, which thank goddness because this happened again today. I am still making payments on the van and cannot afford to get another car. We now have another baby on the way and I am not quite sure what we are to do because this will put one of the kids having to sit in the path of danger when the baby is born. I have paperwork in the van from where the previous owner of the van has already replaced the doors because of them opening when she was driving. The fix must have not solved the problem because now here my family sits with the same concern on the same doors. This is a real concern and if something isn't done about it a child's life may be lost. Van owners purchase vans for the room of their growing family and should feel that there kids are safe when in it.

I bought my 2006 Uplander used. A week or two after buying it, the passenger back sliding door began giving me problems. It will seem to be closing all the way and then pop back open. I have never taken off when this happens, but I am very observant about it and with a small child I refuse to endanger him in any way. I thought that maybe this was just a fluke and didn't take it to be seen about. I still have not, because my warranty is out and I don't have the money to pay for an expensive fix. I was researching new vehicles, when I started thinking about not just the one or two times, but the 10's and possible 100's of times this has happened and wonder, "will I be stuck with a vehicle that could jeopardize my child, husband's and my safety. " I think that it is not a good testament to safety when there are so many people with this problem and nothing has been done to recall and fix it. I beg of you. Please get these vehicles fixed or take them off the road.
We purchased a 2006 chevy Uplander about 3 months ago. My husband works third shift and as he was leaving work he noticed the door was wide open. He shut it thinking he must have forgotten to do so before and proceeded to drive home. On his way home at about 45 mph the door flies open. Since he has gotten home the door is repeatedly opening and closing itself even if it is locked.
While dropping my kids off at school on January 26, 2010, my daughter closed our driver side rear sliding door of our 2007 chevy Uplander. The whole door fell off in her hands. We took it to carmax where we bought it, along with their extended warranty, and were told that it would not be covered under the warranty. We would have to take it to a body shop to have it fixed because they could not repair it there. They charged us $87. 00 to tell us this. We were also told that the only time they have seen this happen before was due to a faulty part or when the vehicle was in an accident. When we bought it in may of 2008 we were guaranteed by carmax that it was inspected for defects as well as never being in an accident. At our first oil change it was discovered to have two leaks, one in the oil reserve and one in the air conditioner unit which were covered by the original warranty of chevy. I have been in contact with the chevy corporate offices but they want me to take it to a chevy dealer to have it looked at (again at our cost) and then they will fix it and help us get financing to pay for it. Why do we have to pay for it when we are not at fault and it could have done damage to my children or other cars around it.
Our 2008 Chevrolet Uplander van is utilized to deliver campus mail. This past week the carrier hand was caught in the door while unloading/loading mail. Luckily there was no major damage done to her hand but that may not be the case the next time. There are no locking position on the two sliding side doors. We have to park on inclines. This accident may happen again. I have an older van and it has a locking mechanism. Why wasn't a locking mechanism place on the sliding side doors.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander. While driving at any speed, the rear driver's side sliding door suddenly opens. Prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the doors were becoming very difficult to close. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the sliding door module needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 57,000. Updated 09/18/09. The fist time the consumer went to the dealership, they put a motor in the door on the drivers side rear sliding door and could not find a problem with the passenger rear sliding door. The second time, they were unable to find a problem. Updated 09/18/09,.
We purchased a used 2005 chevy Uplander from a dealership in vancouver washington. We only had the van for a couple of weeks and we were having problems with the drivers side door not closing. We would close it and it would latch then a couple seconds later it would reopen. We took the van into a chevy dealer to have the door repaired. They repaired it , but only to have the same problem accrue a day later. We called the dealer and took it back in only the dealer checked the door to see if it was working or not . The door did the same thing of closing then opening right back up. The dealer then drove it around to the back of the shop , only to later have the mechanics say that they could not get the door to malfunction. So they called us to pick up the vehicle. I went and picked it up and on my way home from the dealer the door was trying to open well I was driving . It did it quiet a few times. So I took the vehicle all the way back to vancouver to the dealer we bought it. I did not want to have to drive this van with our children setting right beside the door and something happen. I told them this and they said that the only thing they would do is take the vehicle as a trade in. They were not willing to look at the vehicle at all and we had just bought it from them five months before that. I am scared to drive the van on the highway because I never know when it is going to malfunction. The van also sometimes will not start I told the dealer about that to and they didn't know what to do because we never knew when the van would malfunction like this to.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander. The sliding passenger doors on both sides of the vehicle opened on their own at various times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times for this failure. The vehicle was repaired and the failure has continued to occur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer five times. The gm manufacturer was contacted and a representative is expected to inspect the failure at a local dealership. The contact was not told when the Chevrolet inspector will diagnose the failure. The failure and current mileages were 31,000.
I own a 2005 chevy Uplander. I purchased it on July 7, 2008. A week later the passenger side power sliding door opened on it's own as I was driving down the road with my 3 year old right by it. I pulled over and it took me 25 minutes to get it to close. It finally closed but the alarm went off for the next 20 miles of my trip. I have taken it for repair over 5 times and spent over $1000 and it still is not fixed. They removed a magnet from the motor, replaced both modules, reprogrammed both module several times.
The passenger side sliding door on my 2005 chevy Uplander does not latch properly. It will pop open or not close all of the way. If you have to manually close the door (which I have done several times), you will hear this intense and high pitched dinging when you drive, even when the door is shut. Currently, the vehicle is in the shop at the dealer, under warranty for the fifth time.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander. The rear automatic/manual passenger sliding door failed to remain secure when in a closed position. The sliding door intermittently continued to open without assistance. The technician repaired the power door motor assembly. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on 8 to 10 occasions for the identical failure and the repair was made four times. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure mileage was 6,000 the current mileage was 33,000. Updated 11/3/09 updated 11/06/09.
My 2005 Chevrolet Uplander has been in the worked on at the dealership 4 times for the automatic rear sliding malfunctioning. It opens on it's own while driving. I have contacted gm regarding this. The dealership has told me that they cannot guarantee that they can fix this permanently. My van was just in the shop again last week and it is already messed up again. The latch has been replaced more than once and this is not helping.
We were driving down the road and the passenger side van door opened up by itself. Left side sliding door does the same thing, but no as often. We just bought the vehicle few months prior. This would happen intermittently. We took the vehicle to the dealership and they replaced the following right passenger sliding door: (may 7, 2008) motor retainer ( we were told, the first three motors they installed that day were not working) July 8, 2008 reprogram sliding door module April 2nd replaced right sliding door: motor realign left side sliding door and clean the clutch note* when we close the doors with the remote, sometimes they will not shut properly. On occasion, we will shut the doors and go inside and come out and find the door open. When the problem occurs, it is a distraction while driving. The dealership has replaced the motor a few times.
While driving sliding side doors would open on their own. The dealer has tried to fix it but could not ever get them to quit. I talked to several people with that own a chevy Uplander van same year and different years they have all had the same problem. I have 2 handicapped grand children, plus 2 dogs, have always been afraid one of them would fall out. Was sitting still one day and the doors opened, one of my dogs ran out in the street under a moving vehicle, he was knocked down but was not injured. There has been many different problems with this van, but nun life threatening as the doors coming open driving down the road, I mentioned to dealer that chevy should find a permanent fix for the doors, so far never seen recall on a chevy Uplander for this problem, the other people I talked to said they have never been told that their is a permanent fix for their doors coming open driving down the road. I an 71 years of age and have never bought a foreign vehicle always made in the USA. I have owned chevy, Buick, pontiac, Dodge, & Ford, we had considered buying a chevy again but now that we have had to put up with this dangerous situation with this chevy we will buy a Dodge or Ford product. I am glad we bailed them out and they are making money now, and would have liked to bought another chevy, but they haven't done the same for us! I hope no one has been killed or injured with their doors coming open, a lot of people don't complain they just except it and move on. Enough said hope they find a fix for this problem one day before somebody does get killed or injured for life, like what happen with the fuel tanks on the chevy trucks.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander. The contact stated that the passenger power sliding door would not close sporadically. Once the door was finally able to be closed, the door would not open. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
I have had an ongoing problem with my van sliding doors not opening, opening when you don't want them to (driving, parked). It has become more common and I was driving up a steep incline and the door went flying open. Most of the time the doors open when I am driving uphill.
Numerous problems with the passenger side automatic sliding door ranging from the door opening on it's own, inability to close the door to the point it had to be towed into the dealer, locks automatically unlocking while vehicle was in motion, door automatically bouncing back open, nick in the cable of the door mechanism, and most recently a part "roller" falling out of the door and the door not closing.
Both, left and right, power sliding doors will not shut properly. You have to open and close the doors several time to make them shut properly. The left power sliding door will shut then the alarm bell will sound until you stop the vehicle then open and shut the door. The right power sliding door has came open while driving, at slow speeds. The right power sliding door rear latch will not latch properly 95% of the time. The van has been to the dealership for service on the doors twice so far and will be returning Aug 20th for more service on the doors.
The right power sliding door has been in for service on numerous occasions at the dealership. It continues to malfunction in opening and closing. Currently, the door has opened while the van is in operation and on other occasions, the alarm bell has started to ring while the door was closed and the vehicle was in operation, not stopping until the vehicle was turned off.
The sliding passenger doors on my 2007 chevy Uplander does not close properly. Everyday they will close partially or even fully then reopen. I even had to drive home one day with a wire hanging out and the warning signal beeping because the door did not close properly. They make an awful noise while closing. The problem is becoming progressively worse. I have had it in the shop 2-3 times already and plan on taking it back to the shop again for repairs for this problem. I have been told that they can not find what is wrong with the doors though. This poses a safety risk to my children as the doors have been reported by others to open while driving.
I have a 2005 chevy Uplander. Both rear sliding doors like to reopen by themselves. We bought the van used in February 2006. The first time it started happening was March of 2006. We finally took the van in June of 2006 to see what was going on. The dealership could not seem to figure it out. We had it in a few more times and they finally told us that the driver side sliding door latch and lock needed to be replaced. That did not fix the problem. We took it in a couple of more times and still they could not find anything. I contacted gm and was told to take it back to the dealership again to see if the seals were getting in the way. Again, nothing. Gm then told me to take it to another dealership for a second opinion. That dealership could not figure it out. Gm them told me that they couldn't do anything for me because the dealerships could not duplicate the problem. Now what?.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander. When the contact attempted to open the electric sliding door on the driver side, it moved back and forth without locking in position. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle. The powertrain was unknown. The current mileage is 16,000 and failure mileage was 14,500.
Passenger sliding door would not close correctly and it open while the car was moving. The door would close then reopen and you would have to hold the door closed in order for the door to lack closed. The repair that was done was to replaced the center hinge roller support and adjusted cables. Then a month later the cable jammed up in the motor and had to be cut to get the door to close. The repair that was done was to replace the cable and motor for the sliding door. The next problem is that the driver side sliding door will open and close fully but when it closes the motor continues to run and the rear of the door pops open slightly. Repair is pending.
Automatic sliding side doors fail to stop if blocked. During the closing of side automatic side doors, they have failed to stop when blocked, all times this has happened have been when myself or wife was in the process of putting child in vehicle or removing. We have been able to move out of the way thus avoiding any major injuries (wife received a bruise. .
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander. While pumping gas in the vehicle, the contact's five year old child was able to open the door, which failed to remain shut. The contact had to hold the door with the pump nozzle before she was able to close the door. On another occasion, she stated that the door automatically opened by itself. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage is 19,000 and failure mileage was 13,450.
I have had the Chevrolet Uplander in for repair on a rear passenger door that keeps malfunctioning. They have repaired it on several occasions but it is know out of manufacturing warranty. The door has been repaired to the best of gmac ability they can not figure out the problem but the door now will fall shut when on a downhill incline regardless if anyone is in the door. They are suppose to be child safety to keep the door from closing on a child but the door will not stay open when parked a downhill grade. I am really scared the door could close on my children but they tell me that they have repaired it and don't know what is causing the difficulty in the door. I was at a christmas party when the door malfunction and fell shut on me. I am a foster parent in the state of kentucky and purchased this van so I could have reliable transportation for these children and now I'm not sure when I child could get caught in the door.
: the contact stated that the driver's side sliding door slid shut as the contact's child entered the vehicle. The contact was walking around to the other side of the vehicle, when the sliding door slid shut pinning the child to the door causing injury to the chest wall, face, scalp, and spine. There were no problems prior to the incident. The dealership determined that the sliding door catches were worn down after one year and new door catches were replaced.
: the contact stated due to the weight of the side sliding door it would not remain partially opened but, would slide closed. This caused minor injuries. The vehicle has not been inspected.
