3 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/30/2008

2002 chevy ventura started running into electrical issues in the dash Aug of 08. In late September of 08 the air bag light had come on. Several days after the indicator light luminated the drivers side air bag exploded when starting the vehicle on a dry day. I mention this because I was asked a few times by gm about the conditions) took vehicle to the dealer and contacted gm who sent an inspector out to review the codes and make a determination of the cause. My request was to have gm correct the defect because no impact occurred that would cause the airbag to deploy. The case # 10531887 in gm's records which should state that the case was from water leaking into the floor board that caused the problem, they denied the claim. The passenger side air bag deployed days later when starting the vehicle. Contacted them again and they again denied assistance. Months after this episode the windshield needed replaced from rock chip. Found that the luggage rack was allowing water to leak down though the interpillar on the passenger side and has corroded the pillar frame that it was very difficult to replace the glass. So did gm know about the leak that the luggage rack was creating over the years causing electrical issues on this model??? the reason I bring this up is because I believe the inspector knew what to look for because this vehicle had never had issues with water in the floor boards of carpets. I am the second owner. I purchased the vehicle from a family member in 2006 who garaged it most of the time. I do not. I do want to say on a positive note that the van design and the room that the family enjoys in it on long trips has been great. Disappointed with the findings because the vans value is not worth anything with these problems.

4 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 11/25/2007

On 10/30/07, my 2003 chevy Venture airbag light came on. I brought the vehicle to the local dealer, and was told that the r/s safety deployment module was failing and needed to be replaced. The dealer told me this was not a huge problem and that the vehicle was safe to drive. He told me the repairs could wiat until I had the money in January. On 11/25/07, whicle driving the vehicle, the drivers side (side) airbag deployed and exploded immediately. I phoned the dealer and was told that the problem was unrelated and they were not responsilbe. I filed a product allegation complaint with gm. They sent an inspector to the dealer who reviewed the car and found it was a computer malfuntion of the safety deployment module that caused the airbag to deploy. He stated that their was nothing that I could have done to cause the airbga deployment. The dealer admitted to gm that they told me the vehicle was safe to drive, but gm declined to repair the vehicle. I have since found out that this vehicle was recalled for 2 separate front airbag problems. Gm states that this vehicle has no open recalls on it. The vehicle has not been repaired, and is now off the road. I am paying the loan off and hoping to get some resolution to have this vehicle repared so I can continue to use it.

7 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 02/28/2006

I have had 3 main problems transmission, headlight moisture and airbag light illumination my 99 Venture has 79k miles on it and that transmission is shifting hard (dealer suggest a drain and flush) at 60k I had a valve in the transmission replaced for 800 dollars. I am afraid we will be replacing a transmission at 85000 miles. I can not believe it. The air bag light has been coming on since we bought the vehicle. We have had it in 7-9 times fixes ranged from clearing the code to tightening up a plug. The head light units have been taking on water and burning out lights for the last 20k miles. Sounds like a manufacturer defect. From what I have read on the internet a lot of people are having the same exact problems and I cannot believe gm would produce a vehicle like this and not stand buy there product.

8 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 02/21/2006

Note: this is the second occurrence of this problem and they were identical except for the dates and the mileage on the car. 1) events - air bag light would come on and stay on for a day or two and then go off and stay off for several days and then repeat the sequence. 2) failure - there was no actual failure but both times the dealer service advised that it needed to be fixed or the consequences could be either the airbag going off when it was not needed or not going off when needed. 3) repair - installed belt kit (14875 opc) - old part not available.

9 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 10/13/2005

I have owned this van for 28 months with multiple mechanical failures. I have had the brakes replaced, the rack and pinion replaced twice, the tie rods on both sides, the power window motor on the passenger side, the glove box lock, the water pump, the thermostat twice, the engine "seals", the coolant hoses and the power door handles. The power sliding door gasket has also come off on multiple occasions. The airbag light has now been on for 4 weeks. I have been stranded many times and without a vehicle on several occasions. The latest problem required three visits to the dealer to fix. The car overheated and could not be driven all three times, in a two week period. This required a new water pump on the first visit, a new thermostat 8 days later and new hoses 1 day after that.

11 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 11/03/2004

The car would not always start, so I took it back to the dealer under warranty, and it was discovered that the one of the cables that attached to the battery had melted (of course the battery was also drained). Also, my turn signals blinked quickly when the brakes were on. Within three weeks, my brake lights did not work if the headlights or turn signals were used. When I took the car back to the dealership, the panels for the brake lights were replaced. It appears that there was a leak in the casing of the break lights and the water caused the connectors to also melt. Now, after over $500 in repairs that were not covered by my warranty, the air bag light stays on while driving for no apparent reason.

12 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 10/01/2004

13 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 03/12/2004

I have a 2001 Venture with an airbag light that occasionally comes on. Dealer says that it is a faulty sensor in the seat belt. Dealer and gm customer service both claim no responsibility for a defective srs on a vehicle with less than 48,000 miles. I contend that the safety restraint system should last the life of the vehicle if it is not damaged due to wear or abuse. I contend that gm is liable if my srs fails.

14 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 02/14/2004

Air bag light will flash or not go off on a daily basis. Has been a problem for 3 years. In the past, I had been told it was just dirty contacts. The dealer's service dept. Just had my van for almost a week did not even mention the light as a concern. While looking up other info. I have discovered this could be a major problem, especially since this van has a "poor" frontal crash rating even with air bags!.

15 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 12/28/2003

Electrical system: battery light and air bag light come on for a few seconds for no reason while driving down the road.

16 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 12/02/2003

My 1999 Chevrolet Venture minivan has had numerous problems. The one I am most concerned with is the automatic transmission. The transmission makes the car jerk when I either slow down or stop in heavy traffic. This happens when I press on the accelerator to gain speed again. It doesn't happen every time but more often than not. There are also times when driving down the road it whines. Also have a problem with what I figure is electrical. Sometimes the abs light stays on and then eventually goes off. Also, the air bag light comes on intermittently.

17 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 10/04/2003

My husband and I own a 1999 Chevrolet Venture. We bought it August of 2002. With in the first month my airbag light came on. Called the dealer and we had to have the seat belt tension replaced on the drivers side. About a year later the samething happens again this time on the passengers side. About a month ago our antifreeze light keeps coming on and shutting off. We notice no leaking on the ground however the antifreeze is slowly disappearing. Well this weekend my husband took the van on a trip and comes back the next day and the engine is making a ticking noise. We found out that the antifreeze is leaking into the oil causing the gasket to be replaced and the hydraulic lifts to be replaced. This could of resulted in the engine freezing up. This has obviously been an issue with this vehicle and I want to know why anything has not been done about this. Just because someone was not injured does not allow the company to overlook the fact that they have a defect with this year of Ventures.

18 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/12/2003

19 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

I purchased the vehicle on July 31, 2003 from baker motors in milan in. Approximately 2 weeks later the air bag light on the instrument panel started coming on and off. I called baker motor and told them of the problem and they told me someone would be contacting me. No one contacted me. On August 27, 2003 the passenger side airbags deployed for no reason, there was no collision. On Aug. 28, 2003 the driver's side airbag deployed for no reason. There was no collision. The used car dealership, baker motors, in milan in. Has refused to make repairs at their cost stating it is a defect and is the manufacturer's responsibility. General motors has refused to make repairs at their cost stating, it is the responsibility of the used car dealer because they sold it to me that way, and also because the vehicle is no longer under manufacturer's warranty. The airbag system is suppose to be maintenance free, therefore there was not anything that I should have done to prevent this. The airbags are not suppose to deploy unless from the force of a collision and there was no collision, yet the airbags deployed on two separate occasions. I was sold a vehicle that was unsafe for me and my family, and that an insurance company can refuse to insure.

27 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/21/2001

Transmission failed, will not engage, manufacturer admits it should not have failed on a vehicle with that mileage and that age; will not pay for it unless take it to a dealer, which will take much longer and also cost more money than an independent specialist. Airbag light has been coming on in this vehicle on a regular basis since the 20,000 mile mark. I have had the dealer from whom we bought it look at it twice. All they do is hook it up to a machine and tell me there is nothing wrong with it. They never told me that the airbag light is a serious indicator that the airbag will either deploy when it should not, or it will not deploy when it should. The manufacturer is very concerned about this. The dealer has shown no concern at all.

29 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 10/20/2000

Numerous intermittent electrical problems. February 2000, the air-bag light indicator on the instrument panel would stay on after starting, but only intermittently. Took it in for service on 2/22/00 and they cleaned connections to driver side impact air-bag. Problem went away until July 2001. Again instrument panel air-bag light would intermittently stay on. May 2000 - doors would lock and unlock continually and locks would not work with remote or key while this is happening. Interior lights would flash on and off. I took the vehicle to a chevy service center on 5/11/00 & 5/16/00 and both times they could not reproduce error / failure and nothing was done. After a few weeks the door and interior lights problem stopped. January 2002 instrument panel abs & tcs (traction control system) lights will come on and stay on after vehicle has been driven for 5 minutes or so, but not on every trip only intermittently. Also when applying the brakes the emergency flasher / turn signal lights will come on. Vehicle has 43k miles and is no longer under warranty, but problems started 1 year (13,000 miles) after purchase.
