4 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/20/2005

Vehicle failed to start. Change fuel filter. Didn't fix the problem. Now my dex-cool is leaking, shorted out cam position sensor. Has had low coolant for at least a year. Can't understand how a vehicle can use so much coolant. Vehicle is still parked, not running, had mechanic check vehicle with a scan tool, says the cam sensor is bad.

5 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 03/18/2005

Coolant loss, and temperature problems led me to mechanic, assuming it was a thermostat. He traced problem to leaking intake gaskets. Vehicle only has 47,000 miles on it! cost $532 for 6+ hour job to replace faulty intake gaskets. Gm should have issued a recall for this; they obviously know about their faulty gaskets, because the set now offered is a "new and improved set".

6 Coolant Leaking problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 11/15/2004

I noticed that the vehicles coolant level had been dropping over a period of severla weeks. After having it tested it was discovered that the lower intake manilfold had a slow leak and needed replaced. The vehicle had less than 70,000 miles on it and it seems very unusual for this to happen so soon.

8 Coolant Leaking problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 11/18/2003

Our 1997 chevy Venture van with 65,000 miles on it just lost its second engine in less than two years. My wife and I are the original owners, and it began at 50 something thousand miles when the dealer stated the head gasket leaked and the engine had damage from the coolant. Now, on Nov 18th, 2003 the engine died and the mechanics say that it is the cam shaft undoubtedly from the original coolant damage. Information from the internet would indicate that this is a well known problem. Two engines in less than two years and I still owe on the loan.

9 Coolant Leaking problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/28/2003

Own a 97 chevy Venture during an oil change was told I had coolant in my oil, so I took van to a local chevy dealer. They informed my the intake gasket was bad and had to be replaced at a cost of 975. 00, this was done and no mention was ever made that there could also be engine damage due to this leak. Five months later I was driving down a busy street during 5 o'clock rush hour traffic taking my sick child to the doctor when all of a sudden the oil light came on and I lost all power, I had to leave the vehicle in the curb side lane, get my sick child out and walk to a phone to call my spouse to come get us and the vehicle mind you this was late September and it was chilly outside. We had the vehicle towed to a local chevy dealer (the same one that diagnosed the gasket leak) who told me they did not know what was wrong with the vehicle and that it would be cheaper to replace the motor than to find out what happened, at a cost between $3000. 00 to $5200. 00 depending on what type of replacement motor I wanted, not being comfortable with this repsonse I had the vehicle taken to a different dealer, who at least could tell that the intake gasket had been replaced, but unfortunatly gave the same result replace motor. I did not have the funds to do this so the vehicle is parked in my garage and of no use to me. I had to go and replace the vehicle.

10 Coolant Leaking problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

The problem with my Venture turned out to be a leaking water pump based on the mechanic's diagnosis. So far, so good. Although, replacing a $300. 00 water pump at 82,000 is somewhat ridiculous! the mechanic says it was due to the fact that the extended life coolant (dex-cool) doesn't perform like Chevrolet says it should, and it is the cause of many water cooling system problems. He recommends changing the ext. Life coolant every other year just like regular coolant, and judging from the look of the old coolant, I believe him! August update: I am now facing a transmission rebuild that the transmission man says is "typical" of these Ventures due to a mfg. Defect causing the transmission oil pressure to drop and kick the oil pump into high pressure mode forcing fluid through the system at such high pressure that every time it shifts, it feels like the transmission will jerk itself loose from the vehicle.

11 Coolant Leaking problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 07/26/2003

1997 Venture 3. 4l v6 engine (37,000 mi), engine abruptly stopped while vehicle is running (one lane each way with middle turn lane). Complete loss of engine power, power steering, and power brakes. Problem traced to a well known problem withthese engines (3. 1l and 3. 4l v6) having internal coolant leakage that causes camshaft to break. Luckily, no other vehicle was following and I was able to pull off the road safely. Just worry that others may not be as fortunate.

16 Coolant Leaking problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Venture

Failure Date: 09/09/2002

We have a 1999 Chevrolet Venture that we purchased in Dec. 2001. We did not purchase a warranty. A couple of weeks after the purchase the "check coolant" light came on and stayed on. We had to keep adding coolant. I do not work on cars and had a very sick wife, so the light was a minor stress at the time. I'd taken the car to get looked at and they said "the coolant is leaking into the engine, and the engine is going" well for a car with just over 23,825 miles on it, I was very steamed. It lasted till 47,359 miles and my wife was stranded on the road. The car was towed and sat at the chevy dealership from sept. 9th till Dec. 12th 2002. While still paying $437. 00 a month payment. We had a used engine put in it by the chevy dealership which had 20,000 less miles on it, and today has 74,000 miles on it. We paid $2,400 for this used engine. I just found out that the O2 sensor just went out on us. But if there is a defective engine or similar parts on it, is this going to happen again- just a matter of time?.
