The engine rpm surges without pushing the gas. The engine will gradually propel the vehicle to around 50-60 mph with no mechanical movement of the gas pedal. This happens about every day or two. Have to put the car in neutral or firmly press the brakes to get the velocity down. The car is in motion and stationary when this happens. It happens sporadically. Changing all types of parts and still no resolution. I also see alot of the same issues on line with other owners of this vehicle.

Car will speed up on its own and accelerate. The Venture will also over heat after running for 10 min. Or so. This van likes to stall while driving and you must keep your foot on the brake or gas to prevent this from happening while driving. Transmission has been slipping since I got the car. Only owned it less than a year, now it made a loud clanking noise last night and now it will not go in drive only in reverse. You have to shift gears on the steering column only and even then it's debatable if it will run.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Venture. The contact was traveling 40 mph when the vehicle accelerated after the accelerator pedal was no longer being depressed. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 106,600 and the current mileage was 107,000.
The date when this first appeared is unknown. I believe it has been an issue for about 2 years. I have owned the van for 7 years. The speedometer cluster quit working. This is a very common occurrence according to others who own similar vehicles. I cannot tell how fast I am going, how hot my engine is running, or when I will run out of gas.

The caller said she tries to take it to dealer when it was having the problem, but it did not do it when she got there. Dealer said they could not do anything to the vehicle if they could not duplicate the problem.
While driving the van will stall and cut off completely. It needs to be put into park and restarted. It has just recently started to accelerate in a quick manner, and lets off of acceleration without consumer pushing gas pedal.
Vehicle idles very high and accelerates on its own. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 3 times, no problem was found. Vehicle will accelerate up to 20 mph without ever touching the accelerator.

Van has random intermiitent runaway engine. Engine will go to full throttle, near resulted in crashes.
When stopping on a slight incline with foot on brake and transmission gear in drive, vehicle suddenly rolled backwards. Dealer stated that this was normal. Please give any further details.
Engine raced up to 70 mph, and consumer had to hold the brake pedal down to stop the engine from racing. Dealer was not able to resolve the problem.
When sitting at a stop and taking foot off the brake pedal, vehicle accelerated forward.
Engine randomly goes to full throttle when braking. This occurs only after the van has been driven long enough for the engine to get to run temp. The van is then parked (engineoff) for about 30 to 45 min. Then engine is restarted . When the brakes are next applied the engine goes to full throttle. This is a random event and will not always occur when the previous conditions are present. (like the tragedy in minneapolis Dec 4 1998).
