Car Stall problems of the 2012 Chrysler 200

My Chrysler 200 was purchased about two months ago since I purchased it from florida and I reside in alabama I was told by the local dealership in mobile that they could not diagnose or repair it because they have no history. My car is randomly stalling and loosing all power to engine when attempting to stop or slow down there is no codes on dashboard. Pcm was replaced still same issue. It is very likely this will cause an accident especially because there is no warning. It cut off tonight on my way home from work while I was driving at 35mph. This is dangerous.

My vehicle stalled for the first time of over 100x on may 19, 2019 just as I was entering a highway. It has since stalled driving in highway traffic fast and at red lights. As a matter of fact it just happened again as I write this complaint.

While driving my vehicle back the office from my lunch break, I made a right hand turn onto the main road and began to accelerate the vehicle with more gas. At about 35mph the car engine completely shut off and I had to coast to the side of the road with no power steering. I had to wait approximately 20 mins until my car would restart again. I was able to get back on the road until after another few hundred yards of driving the car stalled again completely. I was then forced to call a tow truck to have it taken to an auto shop.

Still not fixed. Cleaned throttle body, and when that didn't resolve the issue they replaced throttle body. Car still stalls at random times, both while moving and waiting at lights. Almost been in several accidents. All loss of power steering and control of the car.

Purchased a used Chrysler 200 in February 2017 at 87,xxx mi. It is now June 2017 and 3 times in the last 3 days my car has suddenly died. The first time I was slowing down and made a right turn and upon accelerating it died, dash lights illuminated, quickly tried to restart and was unsuccessful with just nothing happening when turning key. Took key out of ignition and retried and started right up. Next day I was again slowing down and making a right turn and bam same thing same details. 3rd incident I was driving straight and the car stalled this time I was doing about 15 mph and the steering locked up, quickly took key out and restarted. Engine light was on and diagnosed as crankshaft position sensor malfunction. Replaced the sensor and have only driven for short distance as the first 2 times this happened were terrifying enough. After hours of online research I've found this is common and just being neglected. Chrysler fix this issue before someone gets seriously injured.

I have reported in the past in regard to our 2012 Chrysler 200 with 3. 6 v6 engine of episodes of pmu shut down while driving at slow speed. The manufacturer warranty still covered the vehicle when we first experienced this problem we now are over 60,000 miles as Chrysler has not been able to resolve this problem yet. The engine quit while driving (3 times additional times), at highway speeds. We were able to get to the shoulder of the highway , without power steering and brakes; all computer support systems failed, but all electrical systems still worked. The problem has been checked 4 times after each of the stalling episodes, the pmu computer shows no codes (per Chrysler and the dealer) there is no problem to fix. The last episode the esc dash lite came on, followed by the brake and the abs lights started flashing on & off which caused the speedometer to bounce up and down while the ability to maintain speed or accelerate to maintain speed was lost(again there were no codes) the last 2 times this happen were 11/30/16 & 12/1/16. I have talked to Chrysler fiat but the dealer ani I have not been able to receive any service or suggestion in resolving this pmu problem. It feels like they are not concerned that there is a great safety issue that could result in injury or death. There should be some information available, as this has been a problem that have been ongoing for many models with the 3. 6 v-6 engine and over a number of years, which Chrysler has issued customer service notices to dealers and replaced pmu. Recalls have been avoided as there has not been any serious accidents, injuries, or deaths. If you have had this type of problem with your 3. 6 v6 contact Chrysler and the nthsa.

While taking off from a stop light. The 2012 Chrysler 200 cut off with no warning (no stalling,sputter, hesitation of the sort). I was stopped not on the hwy but a major divided four lane hwy. (GA 54, newman, GA at the intersection of u. S. Hwy I-85). After several restart attempts. The vehicle restarted with the engine malfunction light illuminated. This vehicle only had 45,466 miles on it with all maintenance up todate being completed by the chysler dealership purchased from. Dealership notified, appointment scheduled for 3-26-2015. Who wants to drive a vehicle with a defect that the manufacturer is well aware of. Just look at the amount of complaints.

The car has stalled on four different occasions while driving. It stalled three time while driving in traffic. One time it stalled on the highway. The car has turned back on after a couple of tries. A malfunction indicator light comes on after the incident and stays on for a period of time. The light simple goes out without any intervention. Everything appears to be running okay and then another incident of stalling occurs.

I was driving down a busy street, trying to make a left hand turn through traffic, and my car stalled without no warning and everything was locked including brakes. I took it into Chrysler and they couldn't find anything wrong with it because no fault light was coming on. So they took the next step of putting a module on my car for 2 days to see if it happens again, but lucky for me it didn't because the first time was scary enough for me. Then when I took it back in they just told me that when my car does that just put it in neutral and restart it. So three weeks later my car did it again but this time I was on a busy freeway going 70 mph, so I tried their suggestion and it did not work, for the second time everything just quit working in my car. So I called them again talked to the manager at Chrysler and he said if there is no lights coming on when my car does this he really can't do anything about it.

Driving vehicle to investigate symptoms and during regular casual driving the car stalled, hydraulic brakes went and steering locked while slowing through a school zone. I'm a certified tech with h-d, kawasaki, BMW, and have never had a service manager deny a request that involved serious systems like this until today. That is why I'm filing this complaint on your site, I was told by the s. M. That they couldn't get my 29 day old 200 in before next week Monday! this is not a safe car, anyone reading this please do not buy this car!!!! mdm.

My car stalled on me about 3 times in August. Twice while driving at a low speed and once while parked. I took it Chrysler and they said they didn't find anything. It happened again in September so I brought the vehicle back to chrystal and was once again told they could find nothing. After that while driving on the highway at about 40mph the car started to lose power and traction control, emergency brake and abs light lit up and the speedometer just waved back n forth. It felt like it was stalling and luckily I was able to pull over. I took it back to Chrysler and told them its very dangerous and I can't drive the car like that. They then called me saying they found a loose battery terminal and to see if that helped. No it didn't. While driving on a highway again the car started to lose power and then stopped but did not stall. When I stepped on the gas it mad a noise but did not move. I had to shut it off and restart it. I will going back to Chrysler for the fourth time to see if they will fix this dangerous problem.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the vehicle was changing gears as it was designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The consumer stated the very day they picked the vehicle up, it stalled in the entrance way. The dealer claimed, the vehicle ran out of gas. As her son drove the vehicle home, he noticed when coasting at low speeds, the vehicle would kick back. The mechanic stated the jerk/kick was from the engine shifting gears. The kicking would go away, when the accelerator pedal was pressed. When her son turned the steering wheel to the right and then straightened it out, by turning the wheel to the left, the steering wheel locked up. He put the vehicle in park and shut off the engine. He tried to re-start the vehicle several times, but the engine would rev up tight until it was about to start, but would immediately shut off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where they found a code, but it had nothing to with the problem, that was being experienced. Updated 01/16/13.

Car is a 2012 model, purchased three days ago with only 10 miles on it. Today it stalled as it was idling at red light. It stalled as I was making a right hand turn. It stalled as I was turning left into my garage to park. I called my salesman, he claims he knows nothing about it and referred me to the manager. He also claims he has never heard of why this would happen. Yet I find out from a friend to search the internet. I do a search and see many articles from today and over the weekend on this. So, how does a dealer not know about this before selling me the car? concerned about my kids being in the car with me.

The car will almost stall, randomly, when stopped at a stop sign or light. It has now started to act like it is going to stall when we start it. The car hesitates, randomly, when you go to accelerate. This has happened to us many times. Entering the interstate it acts like it stumbles before it will respond. We have pulled out onto a busy street where acceleration is a necessity and the car hesitates and almost caused an accident. Most recently, switching lanes on the interstate we lifted our foot off accl. To allow a car to pass us when we went to accelerate again the car would not respond, a car came up on us in our lane and almost rear ended us. (this was on the way to the dealership for the problem) the dealer has been unable to duplicate the issue and nothing was recorded on the computer. Many complaints about this issue on Chrysler 200 forums. We have had a blk box installed and no feed back from dealer was provided even when requested in writing and verbally. We have an attorney, Chrysler has put a low value on the complaint and we are not going to settle case at this time. I hope we do not have an accident while collecting data!.

When going over the bridge or entering into traffic car seem to stall, radio and light shutoff and give me a error message enter id code. Have been nearly rear ended by on coming traffic. The console for the heat controls have fell down and dealersays they cannot find anything wrong with it. Purchased the car in March of 2012 and have had problems since I bought it. I love car but hate all the problems that I am having and it's only been 9 months and took it back to dealer about 4 times already and have an appointment on 1/11/2013.

Car continues to have a speed impediment; it hesitates or stalls at 10, 20, 30, and 40 mph increments and also at various times with acceleration from a low speed to a higher speed such as entering a highway from an "on ramp". Chrysler tells the owner to continue to just drive it and the computer will adapt to the car. Car stalls, hesitates or maybe experiences a seizure. In shop for more than 4 times with no resolution. Think this needs to be investigated as a safety recall. Dealer service man was asked if there was a recall and this question was met with an answer that there have been no recalls.

This car was bought new with approx 300 miles brought from a dealer's inventory in kokomo, in to one in northern kentucky, where it was bought 11 may ,2012. . It had been on the previous dealer's lot, as part of inventory, I believe since Sep,2011. In total it has stalled while stopped at a light 2 separate times. . Twice it has either quit while slowing or downshifted causing quite a violent throw forward of persons in their seats while at a relatively slow speed coming to a stop. . . In the old days it would be the jerk you get while popping a clutch to get a car started with a bad battery. . The third time it stalled was backing out of our driveway. . . We are now approaching 1000 total miles on the car with less than a month of ownership. . . Made first visit to a dealer service 30 may 2012,. . Pcm code was updated,but could not duplicate problem. . Have had one jerky downshift since then . . This has been the recurring theme of many of these instances written up on blogs concerning this model over last 2 years. . Side note. . This car has remote start capability on the key fob. . I noticed a recall last year for some vehicles where they noticed the circuit board inside a fob had vibrated loose, and somehow was sending signals to some component in the car which was causing it to stop. . . Ie. No codes associated with a malfunction like that. . . Might be something to look at too. Twice also, the hint of an electrical smell has been detected. . . Same smell I experienced when the pcm on my 1993 Ford van cooked itself a couple years ago. . At first I wrote it off as a new car thing. . But combine that with present and past experiences. . . Well, the connection may not be coincidental.
