Im tired of dumping money into the car that has a maker issue !!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was restarted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.
I will be driving on the freeway, highway in the snow on ice in the summer wherever, suddenly my engine shuts down. I lose my power steering, my brakes and my safety. I have had my vehicle checked out and nobody can find anything because there are no codes that are being thrown. No dashboard lights going on nothing to indicate there's an issue. The safety of me my mother who rides with me often my grandchildren are at risk. Most recently it happened during a ice rain we had and I can't push on my brakes and my power steering is gone and my car spins in the middle of the road because I have no control over it. The only thing that I have been able to maybe come up with is something in the engine that was discovered maybe in 2015 something about a pcm I believe. So they did recall 2015 and newer vehicles and left all of us with the 2011 to 2014 vehicles to ben for ourselves. I am making payments on this vehicle and I want to send it to the junkyard. I can't keep pouring money into it trying to figure out why it just stalls. If this isn't present and safety issue to Chrysler then nothing does. I find it hard to believe a company that makes millions of dollars maybe billions a year cannot find it within themselves to recall the engines in these Chrysler 200 vehicles that are having these issues. With that I'm hoping that it won't one day die on me in the middle of traffic and I get hit possibly killed because it just dies and I have no control over it. As soon as I can pay it off I am dumping this car I will not put it on anyone else it isn't fair to them and frankly it wasn't fair to me buying this used from a dealer and having this issue. Oh by the way sometimes it will start right back up if I put it into neutral while I'm driving and hit the key others it will not sometimes it takes 2 hours for it to start again sometimes 10 minutes. I don't know why it does it frankly I don't care I would just like it fixed. I'm single I don't make a lot of money and it's frustratin.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that on five occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehcile stalled. The vehicle was restarted after an hour each time. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where the failure was not able to be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000.
The first time this incident occured I was driving in a residential neighborhood and my horn started randomly honking. Over the past few months the horn will randomly start honking and will continously honk for long periods of time. The horn will blast for miles and there is nothing that I can do to make it stop. I have been pulled over because of this and it's terrible driving at night with the horn blaring. The horn does not work regularly anymore. Then my car started shutting off while driving with no warning lights and total loss of anything that is powered (steering, brakes, etc). I have had to pull over on the freeway in unsafe areas, stuck in the middle of intersections with kids in the car also. After shutting off sometimes I am able to start it right away and it will be fine and other times it wont start and after some period of time it will finally start. I replaced the battery and got a new key fob but neither one has fixed these issues. On top of the random horn blaring and car completely shutting off while driving I now have begun having issues with my transmission. It started randomly not shifting while driving causing me to have to pull over and restart the car after about 5 mins. I have had to pull off the freeway to restart my car. The transmission issue was random at first but I haven't been able to drive my car at all because it will not shift after 10 mph. It is automatic with manual option (which I never use) but it will not shift gears in auto mode or manual. The horn blaring is not only embarrassing but the loudness of it is detrimental to a persons hearing. I have read many reports of this particular car having these same issues and the fact that it completey shuts off without warning and loss of power steering, brakes is extremely dangerous especially when traveling on freeways/highways at 70mph not only for me and my children but the other drivers around me. I have not had it diagnosed or repaired by a mechanic due to the transmission issue.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the emissions recall campaign: u67. The contact stated that the dealer determined that the check engine warning light failure was an air flow circuit sensor failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
Car has always ran great no problems. I go to leave house and as soon as I drive maybe 100 ft all the dash lights came on started flashing and chimming. Engine also reved up which was crazy I was terrified of rear ending someone. I hit brake but it kept doing it. Ive had two different shops run a scan and they say too many codes to know. And tell me to take to dealership. I bought car brand new back in 2012. I just need to know what to do now?? the speedometer went to zero and cold hot hand went to c its like the computer wasnt sending messages to the proper places.
Unknown.
Engine keeps overheating with no engine codes I have changed the thermostat the thermostat housing the radiator both fans and the water pump and none of this has fixed the problem the coolant doesn’t cycle from the coolant reservoir regardless of coolant levels are low or depleted. This is going to lead to bigger problems in the engine and the mechanics are out of awnser as to what is happening.
Vehicle will turn off while driving, causing steering wheel to lock up. This has happened 3 times. Engine light has come on this time and has codes u0100, u0121 and u11. I’ve had the vehicle checked at ntb, but was told these must be addressed by Chrysler. My safety has been affected while driving on the interstate and the vehicle shut down.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph numerous warning light had illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact lost power steering and power brakes and was unable to pull the vehicle off to side of roadway. The contact had the vehicle towed to her residence and had an independent mechanic diagnose the vehicle and he had determined that the engine had seized and had to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v487000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Numerous problems with vehicle refusing to start when ignition switch turned on. The dealership could not find a problem. The vehicle then ran for a period of time without additional issues. In April of 2022 the problem resurfaced. After trying for two days to start the vehicle, it started and I took it to a Chrysler dealership. The mechanic indicated the car needed a new starter. The starter was replaced on 4/20/2022. On 5/10/2022 the dealership inspected the vehicle and did an oil and filter change. No problems were found. On 5/13/2022 I was driving and the vehicle suddenly stopped in traffic and would not restart. Thankfully, a crash was avoided when the vehicle suddenly stopped in heavy traffic. The automatic windows and door locks still worked even though ignition would not engage. The vehicle had to be pushed out of traffic and was towed to a dealership. The mechanic listed the following: asd main sense circuit; generator field control /circuit; engine oil pressure sensor circuit low; starter control 2 circuit open-pulled vehicle in found starter was not engaging-tested both power feed lines. The repair quote was in the thousands of dollars. I have gotten rid of the car and I am purchasing another make of vehicle.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The check engine, traction control, and abs warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle failed to start as needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
While slowing to a stop, the vehicles engine sputtered and shook, and ultimately shut down. All power steering and braking capabilities were lost, leaving the vehicle in a drift. The vehicle had to be put into park to be halted. Fortunately, I was slowing in a neighborhood near a driveway, and was traveling slowly. Had this happened on a major road or freeway (and I have in fact detected this lurching before in such conditions), I or others could be seriously injured in a high speed collision. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer yet. Nor by police, insurance representatives, etc. No warning lights were engaged to warn me of the approaching stall.
At first the car started making chirping sound on the right side when ever the car idles. One day I was driving and it shut down while I was driving and the check engine light and electrical light came on, I finance the car and they do the repairs under warranty no electrical repairs. They did repairs to the engine they claim and the problem still persists when the engine shuts off while I’m driving. The brakes lock up and the steering wheel locks up. And you can’t change the gears to park the car. I literally drive with my hand on the emergency break out of anxiety, after it shuts off, the odometer and rpm meter both drop at the same time when it occurs, and after waiting for it to come back on the rpm struggles to go over the “1” I have to wait 20mins for the car to start back up every time. I got the car 03/25/2021 @ 130,800 miles. The car isn’t even at 150,000 miles meaning it’s only driven about 20k miles and this is happening & apparently only had 1 other owner. Not sure how true it is. Hi’ve already fixed the suspension issues on the car 670$. The engine repairs were under warranty I want to say over 3k in repairs they claim, the picture I’ve added is of the check engine light it goes away the next day I’ve only been driving the car when I need to so I don’t cause a bigger problem. Hope you can help. Thank u.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact’s wife stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle shutoff without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The contact stated that the check engine and air bag warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed but not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
My vehicle just started this week to rough idle when braked at a red light. And when picking up speed in the city or highway it kicks back(rough idle/shaking) alot and the check engine light will flash and then dissappear. Nothing is getting picked up when checking for codes. But I believe it has to do with that safety recall: Chrysler town & country engine recall: 11v487000 engine may suffer internal damage and stop running I did get my oil change at the dealership I purchased but nothing came up to them about it as well(since they do inspection). This is my only transportation so I need this to get taken care of as I have 2 kids and appointments. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13v282000 (electrical system, air bags), 16v668000 (seat belts, air bags), and 17v640000 (seats, air bags). The vehicle was repaired however, the failure still occurred. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v487000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 181,000.
The car won't stop overheating, we have replaced thermostats and pumps thinking there was a leak but that never stopped the problem. 20 seconds after starting the car the engine is already at the halfway mark for how hott it is, and even goign 30 miles an hour get all the way to the top and starts overheating. On my way to work I almost crashed cause it showed no indicators at al!!! just starting bellowing smoke. So I pulled over and turned it off and didnt move it.
My car engine is knocking loud when I drive, do I need a new engine. . ?.
For weeks now ive been noticing a weird grinding or dry rubbing sound underneath the front end of my Chrysler. Checked it out a few times, as though I am not a mechanic I can identify the basics of something not right. However, after my husband and his brother both looking it over on seperate occasions, they have noted a leak under the carriage of the car. Often here recently, the guage senses an over heating of some sort. Since this notice, we have replaced the oil cooler twice in a year; as well as flushed the hoses associated with the coolant reservoir. Fixed temporary but has now already started getting too hot. Which simply tells me that its something further internal thats wrong. I was informed of an engine recall: l33 of my Chrysler model. However havent seen one on this website. When driving yesterday, I noticed a light on my cluster that indicated the traction has failed. When I brake, all u hear or feel is a vibration under your feet, up front. I replaced my brake pads all 4, within the past 4 months and theyre now rusted over and u notice a brake fluid leak on the front right side. After a light, the grinding noise, the vibration and the overheating; I am positive that this will eventually cause a car stall or worse a fatal accident. My brakes could eventually fail while driving in traffic, causing a crash. Or my car could just all out stalland the cluster can trip and I could be in harms way if at the time it does this I could be goin 70 on the interstate or in a turninglane in town and without proper fix; it could easily cause a fatal accident and I could be killed or worse my children!.
When driving the vehicle will suddenly shut off. No warning of it about to happen just does. I lose steering and brakes and turns on only after time goes by or by removing negative terminal from battery. It's happened at 35mph and at 60 mph. I've gone a week with no incident to having it happen dozens of times on a single trip. Very scary situation. Especially in traffic.
Transmission is going after just 8 years old!!!!!.
Car randomly while driving shimmies. The whole car will shake.
The car randomly loses power along with the power steering and cuts off. I could be driving for 30 mins and it'll be just fine then out of no where it may cut off at stop light, while I'm decelerating or even trying to gas up. It has cut off numerous times on the highway without any warning or light and I'll only know by the sudden loss of power steering or noticing the rpm gauge dropping to 0. Sometimes it'll start up just fine right afterwards like nothing happened and sometimes it'll take a minute or two to start up. It may start a right back up then cut right back off or it may start up and be fine until the next day. Sometimes it only starts back up when I disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few seconds.
I only have heat on the drivers side of the car. We just hit our 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty. Had the car in the shop twice with coolant smells. Mechanics never found a problem. Everywhere I read there are tons of complaints about this issue. This is a $1000. 00 repair! a flush is $150-170. We have already done this. I'm ready to trade it in but I do love my car. Not sure about how I feel about Chrysler knowing about a issue and not offering assistance with the repair. Maybe they better send out a massive rebate to old owners in hopes of them staying a customer.
So two weeks back on on sept. 19 my car broke down. . . Which I don't get because dealership said due too improper lubrication in the engine, always changed my oil and filter and coolant or anything needs to be replaced at said mileage. Also in told me cylinder 4 by dealership was my problem till it blown always kept oil same and heard about it never tried to drive it till I found out why I have this problem. . . Was told s. O. L !!! so now have no car to get my kid or work walk and ask for rides and still making payments for this only have 109,614 miles on for something that should of happened at 200,000 miles or more I take care of my car thing was my joy for work or my kid so please help me understand why. . . .
Heater core. . . Do not purchase this vehicle. Don't take my word for it, research reviews of Chrysler's negligence with many makes & models for their ineffective heater core. The cost to fix is not cheap (I can show receipt) very few shops will work on heater core for this car. Car has a serious issue with heater core, & I do not want to even give my story as I would just become even more infuriated. Ashame no lawsuits have been successful against Chrysler. It's bad enough these idiots designed a vehicle you have to take off entire bumper for to change headlight bump (which cost double the amount of the already expensive bulb). Worst purchase ever made, Chrysler could give me a car for free & I would refuse to to keep it at this point. Never ever again. Just say no to Chrysler.
While driving I started to coast to take sharp turn and engine died, no power steering and no brakes. Couldn't turn and ran off the side of the road. This is a major issue.
Differential exploded while pulling away from a curb into the road, no traffic, no excess accelaration.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. While driving 25 mph, the contact noticed the temperature gauge rising. The contact continued to drive at a lower speed until she arrived home. The vehicle was taken to darcars Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of new carrollton (located at 8100 annapolis rd, new carrollton, MD 20784, (301) 459-6800), but they were not able to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,788.
Takata recall the tipm has malfunctioned car will not function of start.

Car shuts off while driving; has to turn the car off. Got car serviced, was told had large hole in engine coolant. Motors will go out suddenly on passenger and driver windows.
My Chrysler 200 died while driving--still had power, but engine died. The first time,6/8/19, we thought it was a cam sensor-that was the code it threw at the mechanic. We replaced it. Then the battery light came on. The battery was good, but the alternator wasn't-so we replaced the alternator. Drove it for 2 days & it died again, 6/16/19. Took it back & the same cam sensor code is popping up but sensor is still good. Got it back, drove it another 2 days & it died again, 6/22/19. Towed it back to shop & mechanic cannot duplicate the problem after a week. Have it back 1 day & car dies again, 6/29/19. Several complaints here mention the car engine dying for no reason, but still have power. We've been lucky-we haven't been on a highway when it's died. Each time, we've been driving around the city & making a turn & the traffic flow has been slow. Sometimes we've been at a complete stop-others we have not. Being that this seems to be a repetitive complaint, why hasn't a recall been issued on the vehicle??.
