Known problem of heavy corrosion around outer rim (location of tire bead) of chrome clad aluminum wheels on Chrysler 300c vehicles. Dealer acknowledged problem but Chrysler would not cover replacement under warranty. When contacted again in 2008, Chrysler said they would not cover because warranty expired. They were advised I had the extended bumper to bumper warranty. They advised that was not bumper to bumper and only the basic warranty would cover replacement. When I advised that the initial complaint was filed well within the basic warranty period (19 monts, 18k miles), they said they would not cover the wheels under warranty. As the corrosion progresses, my concern is rim failure.
Wheels on Chrysler 300c are corroding and protective coating is peeling. Daimler Chrysler admits problem but believes it related to corrosive carwashes despite the fact that I wash my car with water. As corrosion continues it will likely compromise the integrity of the wheels.
The rim of my Chrysler 300c car has cracked with no apparent impact. The crack then makes the tire lose pressure. This happened not on only 1 wheel but on 2 wheels at 2 different times. Had to replace the rims both times.
