60 problems related to other fuel system tank filling/charging have been reported for the 2006 Chrysler 300C. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

36 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2013

After filling the fuel tank as I was leaving the station the car stalled and the check engine light came on. The car started and I drove about 3 blocks and it stalled again at a traffic light. It ran ok the next several fill-ups and then it happened and this time it stalled four (4) time. Once on a busy by-pass I spoke with Chrysler customer service on March 20, 2012and they will do nothing about this. Clearly this is a serious safety issue. I am having the fuel tank replaced at a cost of $1200. 00. .

37 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

I bought my car new in March 2006 and I am the only owner/driver. I do like my car and will buy another Chrysler 300c. When the car was new I had several stalling issues where the car would stall at low speeds or while sitting at a traffic light. I do not recall if it was after refueling. I took the car to the dealer and no "codes" were found and the dealer could not replicate the problem. The car than ran perfectly for six years with no stalling issues. All maintenance has been performed including new spark plugs as recommended by Chrysler. Starting earlier this year the stalling restarted and it only happens after I fill the car with fuel. I have tried several other gas stations and ran some fuel injection cleaner through the fuel system. I do not top off the tank when filling the car up. At one point the stalling occurred after every fill up and now it is not as often (every other fill up). After filling the tank the car starts normally and as I exit the gas station and stop to check to merge into traffic the car will stumble and stall. It restarts and will stall again if I don't keep the engine rpm's up. Sometimes after I fill up and quickly merge into traffic (and not allow the car to fall to idle speed) while accelerating up to 25-40 mph the car will stumble and it feels like it is not getting fuel. It does not stall because the car is gaining speed and then clears up after a "surge" and then runs fine till the next fill up cycle. I am careful about pulling out in heavy traffic after fill ups out of fear of it stalling.

38 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

Five minutes after refueling my 2006 300c, it stalled at a stop light. Vehicle restarted quickly, but could not hold steady rpms at idle or higher. Drove immediately to dealer, and vehicle stalled three more times on the way. Dealer personnel indicated stalling could be caused by over-filling the gas tank (however, I had not continued filling the tank after the pump auto-shut-off). Dealer suggested running the engine for 15 minutes to clear vapor canister. This did not help. Dealer replaced fuel tank and vapor canister, $1500. This is a dangerous condition since the rough running leads to stalling at intersections or stop signs.

39 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

After filling the fuel tank the engine will stall when stopping for a light or when first leaving the light. It will also jerk while driving. This happens until the fuel level goes down. It did not do this when first purchased. Now it happens every time the tank is filled. If the car stalls while driving the steering and brakes become difficult to use. There are many reports online about this same problem. Chrysler does not claim to know anything about this at the dealer. Someone will get hurt or worse if this problem is not addressed. Thank you.

40 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

Car unexpectedly stalled in traffic but started right up again. This happened several times as I made my way to the Chrysler dealer a few miles away. They could not diagnose problem at the time. The car ran fine until yesterday January 31st 2013 when it happened again but this time in heavy traffic. I managed to get the car started and it continued to stall several times as I made my way to the dealer again. The mechanic identified the problem which appears to happen right after filling the gas tank as a problem with the vapor recovery system. He stated he has seen this problem many times and the remedy is to replace the fuel tank and vapor recovery lines and filter etc. Cost about $2000. I asked if it was a recall given that this happens frequently (my online research suggests this is a common problem with Chrysler 300c). I was told it was not a recall. My issue is that this is a serious safety problem and should be addressed by the manufacturer.

41 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

Vehicle hesitates/stalls after filling with fuel. Dealership replaced purge solenoid and cannister at a cost to me of $538. 22. After replacement, car died on me 5 times after filling with fuel in less than a 4 block area. Returned car to dealership. Was told the customary fix was a new canister and fuel tank, at an additional cost of $1,168. 70 plus tax, or to only fill tank 3/4 of the way full when fueling. I choose not to pay approximately an additional $1,200 and have not been able to fill my tank to first fuel hose shutoff since. Have had to try to guess how much fuel to put into vehicle when fueling ever since. Don't understand why I wasn't notified by the dealership of this problem since they obviously have a record this was an issue with my vehicle, and have not received the fuel tank extended lifetime warranty coverage letter from Chrysler. Have not been contacted by Chrysler at all regarding this problem.

42 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2012

After filling the gas tank to full, stopping after the pump clicks off the first time, the vehicle stalled after running for around 5 minutes. Restarted vehicle and same thing happened two more times. Vehicle continues to do this regularly.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2012

After filling up my gas tank, I encountered numerous stalls while driving. Thankfully, it was city driving early in the morning. Since then, I have encountered numerous situations where the car has stalled after filling up. I initially thought it was bad gas (I. E. Water in my gas tank), however, I have since varied the fueling stations and brands I use and have seen no effect. It always seems to happen after I fill up, and it seems to go away after the tank has emptied a bit. The latest encounter was yesterday (I filled up two days prior) while I had my family in the car - multiple stalls in mid-day city traffic. And again this morning. The gas tank is still quite full (it shows over "f" on the gauge). I _never_ top off when I fill - I simply wait until the filler turns itself off when filling. I have never seen this problem prior to the first occurrence in mid November of 2012, which I initially (as indicated) wrote off as bad gas due to hurricane sandy (I figured the storm may have caused water in the tanks of gas stations). After hearing about numerous issues on this, I wanted to add my experiences to the growing list. The car in question is a 2006 Chrysler 300c srt-8.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Many multiple incidents - after filling fuel tank, engine will stall multiple times shortly afterwards and is difficult to re-start. This happens even if care is taken to avoid "topping off" tank. At times the engine has even stalled during fueling once tank is near full, before pump clicks off. Must drive with gas cap removed for it to start and run at all for many miles before it behaves normally again, and even with gas cap removed it still will come near stalling at times.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Every time the car is filled up with gas, it stalls several times. This can be dangerous as at least once I was getting on an interstate. Fortunately, no accident occurred. The first time I took it to the dealership they said it was because I overfill the tank (which I don't) and replaced a charcoal filter and solenoid at the cost of almost $500. It happened again after this repair and now I am told I need a new gas tank. This will cost another $1250. I am aware of this happening on other Chrysler 300's. Contacted Chrysler and reported the problem. At first they said it was because of overfilling the tank and now confirm it is the fuel tank, but there have been no recalls on this issue. We bought the car in 2005 when the new 2006's came out. This is a very dangerous issue.

46 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2012

After filling gas tank with fuel engine will stall for the first few miles. Has stopped in traffic/roadway putting myself in danger after putting fuel into the car.

47 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

Every time I put gas in my Chrysler 300c and start the engine, the car tends to jerk forward and then the engine literally shuts down. This is a very serious problem, because the engine has shut down while I'm on the interstate; after filling up gas tank to capacity, my vehicle stalled after driving for not even one mile because fuel flooded the engine. The vehicle restarted after several attempts but my vehicle continued to stall after a distance. I took vehicle to an authorized dealer who stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The fuel tank was replaced, but I am very concerned that this problem could have caused a crash resulting in a lot of damage and possible death!!.

48 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2012

After filling gas tank, car stalls many times before running ok, until next fill up and then it does the same thing every time.

49 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2012

Problem first occurred at approx 41k miles. Had just refilled tank and car refused to start. Let car sit for 1/2 hour and car restarted. Problem has occurred intermittently since then - always after refilling the tank. Sometimes the car is hard to start after a refill and other times it stalls, typically when leaving the gas station. I use the auto-fill feature at gas stations and do not overfill.

50 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

The engine will stall after every fill-up. It stalls within 15 seconds after starting it up at the gas station. It will then stall repeatedly at intersections and every time the car comes to a stop. In addition, it has stalled while making right hand turns and misfires and stumbles while at speed. The stalling/misfiring episodes do not occur once 2-3 gallons of gas have been consumed. This situation is extremely dangerous as I have been nearly rear ended as traffic started to pull away from a green light, and also stalled at intersections while making right turns. The Chrysler dealer said nothing was wrong since they didn't find any codes or TSB's regarding this problem. I have taken the car to an independent garage and they found a lot of chatter on their mechanic help websites. They think it might be the emission control that sits on top of the gas tank. The top gas in the tank is flooding over to the engine and stalling it out. Since Chrysler nor anyone else can say what definitively is going on I have cautiously not been filling the tank. This car is dangerous since the next owner may not be aware of this issue.

51 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

This was the first of several incidences. After fueling, the engine began rough idling. I thought I had just gotten water in my tank. After several minutes the engine seemed to smooth out and I left the gas station and entered a busy intersection. As I entered the intersection, I pressed down on the accelerator and the engine stalled. There were cars all around me as I tried to restart the engine. After several tries, it started and I pulled to the side of the road. The engine ran roughly for several more minutes and once again smoothed out. The stalling can also happen during right turns, but always happens after refueling. My dealer said the problem was the valve on top of the gas tank. When filling the tank, fuel leaks over into the cannister which then floods out the engine. Because the valve and the tank are one unit, the entire tank must be replaced. Since a repair is so expensive, I now do not fill my tank above the 3/4 level.

52 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2011

After filling the gas tank the vehicle is prone to stall. This can happen at random times and speeds. If you only fill the tank up 3/4 of the way it seems to alleviate the problem. No trouble codes are set. After stalling the vehicle can sometimes be restarted immediately, other times it might have to sit for 5 minutes.

53 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2011

After filling the fuel tank with gas and entering the freeway the car stalled. Every time I fill the car up with gas the fuel tank will just stall. I took the car to the dealer and was told that I would have to have the fuel tank and lines replaced. This is a serious safety hazard. When the car shuts off the steering wheel locks up and you must come to a complete stop before putting the car in park to restart it; all while trying not to be rear-ended by coming traffic. I continue to have the problem today. I took my car in for maintenance and was told that there's now a recall on the fuel tank, but due to the massive number of recalls, the part is on back-order.

54 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2010

I filled up my car with premium fuel (as always) and stopped the fill at the first click of the gas pump. I started my car and reset my trip information into my computer and put it in drive and got on the 59 north feeder road. It started jerking like the engine was cutting out so I slowed down and when I slowed down it completed died on the feeder road. I started back up and it missed a couple of times and died again at the red light. It seems that if you are on an open stretch of road going over 30 or 40 it won't die - but will cut out and jerk really bad. This has happened another 10-15 times since then. I stopped filling the car up and just put in 3/4 tank. My husband will forget and fill it up and it does this every time you fill the car up. It has died in the middle of the road as I was leaving a gas station, it has died in innersections after leaving a red light. Very frustrating and dangerous!.

55 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2009

After filling the car when we begin to accelerate the car stalls. We have repeatedly asked the dealerships if they have had complaints and they said "no". Finally, on 2/14/14 we saw on the news that Chrysler is extending the fuel warranty to lifetime due to a defect in the fuel tank causing stalling after filling. We again have contacted Chrysler dealerships and Chrysler complaint center and they said because there isn't a recall they can't fix it. How can this be if they agreed to a lifetime warranty on the fuel system. The dealership said they don't have a part to replace until there is a recall. The complaint center said they can't help us if there isn't a recall. We also have an article from the detroit news on 2/18/14 that states that the ntl highway traffic safety commission ended its investigation after Chrysler and a supplier developed a solution to the problem extending lifetime warranty coverage. Is there anything your dept. Can do to help consumer? why should we have to wait for someone to ram us in the backend entering a freeway because our car stalls?.

56 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2008

I bought a 2006 Chrysler 300c new from the dealership in may of 2006. At approximate 25,000 miles it began to shut off after filling up the gas tank completely at the gas station. I've always put the correct fuel in my car as recommended by the manual and the dealerships I've taken her to for routine maintenance. At intermittent intervals throughout the ownership of my car, it has shut off, stranded me on dark roads and have almost caused accidents on highways, busy streets with my children in the car. This car has been dealership maintained & I've adamantly followed the maintenance schedules. Have taken it to the dealership and had spark plugs, fuel pump, water pump, thermometer changed all needlessly. I've spent close to $4000 in repairs and needless parts. The dealership has ran various diagnostics and haven't found anything wrong. The car now has close to 76,000 miles on it and will shut off if the gas tank goes to the quarter of tank mark or when it's full. I never top it off because I've been warned not to top off my gas intake. I've sought second opinions on why this might be happening and the dealerships in NY, NJ and FL have informed me that this is a common complaint they receive for all of the Chrysler 300 series. This is a dangerous malfunction that could possibly cost lives plus cost an expensive loss for this car. I've spoken to other owners plus researched other forums, and there are hundreds of the same complaints about when the car is fueled especially after the car reaches 50,000 miles on it. The last incident was oct. 30, 2013 in which I was almost in an accident due to the fact that my car shut off at a stop light after the light turned green. The cars behind me started to move and the car directly behind me had to swerve to keep from hitting me. This is a dangerous problem.

57 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2007

After refueling (not over-filling) the vehicle stalls, bucks while in motion, dealerships could not diagnose the reason. This happens every time the tank is filled to the point the gas pump kicks off. The dealer suggests the solution is to not fill the tank, which is a tactic that does work if you can predict how fuel you can pump before the shut-off. This is a safety issue because the stalling is not immediate and will often occur without warning once you have entered moving traffic. On line forums show this to be a wide spread problem with 300c owners. Apparently, many dealers are now suggesting the fuel tank be replaced as a solution. It is unknown if this actually solves the problem. On several occasions where this occurred I have narrowly avoided being rear ended by following traffic. I cannot imagine that no accidents have not been caused by this problem. .

58 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2006

I have been back to the dealer 5 times because the car stalls when making a sharp turn/u turn or hard stop/start. The car will stall and the esp/bass and oil lights come on. I lose power steering and power brakes. The car will not restart until the key has been turned completely off and then back on. The dealer always tells me it is operating normally. I finally gave up and was just living with it after the vehicle went out of warranty. It was only after I read another person's account online that I realized it was happening after a fuel fill (I do not top off my tank). After learning this, I can now make the car stall on demand. All I have to do is fill it until the pump shuts off, then make a hard turn back and forth and the car stalls. If you pull out from the gas station slowly and make no sharp movements, the car will not stall. The dangerous part of this is if you have to make an emergency maneuver after filling the tank, the car will stall.

59 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2005

After filling gas tank car would shut off while driving and I would lose control of car to stear. After sat all car would start and drive ok. Danger is when car stalls on the road while driving. This happened several times, could not fill tank up.

60 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/08/1918

The engine dies 4 to 5 times on the road after filling up the tank, it happens if I take my foot off the gas pedal to slow down or to stop, it is stressful when you loos control of the car on the streets especially if you are turning on a corner. It started on July 1918 and it has happened for the 15 times that I had filled up the car with gas with no exceptions. I keep records of dates, my mileage and used gas.
