I was stopped & just put it into drive from park & the car just took off. I put my foot on the brake but it didn't stop right away. The car is totaled. The vehicle did property damage.
On my way to work on may 8th 2014, my battery light came on. In a plit second decision I decided to go to work instead of coffee first to call a mechanic and within 2 minutes my car had died. Smoke was coming in through my vents and I had witnesses yelling at me to get away from my car it was on fire. In the 5 minutes it took the fire department to get there, the front of my car was gone. I had little to no warning of this and have since found that Chrysler was aware of this problem with no recall of the vehicle. I am very thankful that my children were not with me that day and thankful that the only injury to me was smoke/fume inhalation.

Diagnostics show code p0344 cam shaft position sensor. It was repaired under recall j18 in Aug 09. Called bob moore dealership (completed recall work) & Chrysler recall line. They both say won't repair under original recall. This is the same exact part/problem. Is there any way to get them to honor this? my cruise control shuts itself off, lights dim, and fails to start on occasion.
The contact owns a 2003 Chrysler 300m. The contact received a recall notice for the cam sensor which was not listed on the NHTSA website. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off; yet, he the contact pulled to the side of the road. He later restarted the vehicle but the failure continued to occur intermittently. The contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealership for the recall repair. After the repair was performed, the vehicle continued to shut off. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and was told that the catalytic converter was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership and he was informed that the recall repair had damaged the catalytic converter. The contact called the manufacturer and was told that because the vehicle was no longer under warranty, they were not going to take any responsibility. The current and failure mileages were unknown.
While accelerating onto the freeway, at approx. 55mph, in very heavy traffic with many big-rigs in the mix, the "check engine" light came on and the car suddenly lost power and began to shudder/miss out when accelerating. I had to quickly navigate over 3 lanes of fast moving traffic to avoid being rear-ended. I was able to drive slowly to a repair shop, but the engine would not rev above 2200 rpm. The service shop has tried 4 times to repair the car, each time replacing various sensors that were indicated by the engine computer. After each repair, the car would run fine for 2-3 days before having the same failure. It is still not repaired. I feel this is a serious safety problem.
Randomly my car will cut off while I am driving. Sometimes I can wait for a few minutes and it will start up again (not very often). I can wiggle the wire to the control valve (I think that is what it is called, it is in the very front of the engine towards the right side), the car will then start. I have been in some very bad situations and am afraid of what may happen if this causes me to have an accident. I have went to a car repair shop and they said it may be caused by the cam positioning. I travel a lot with my grandchildren and do not feel safe.
Engine died as I was making a left hand turn. Pulled to the curb and tried to restart the engine. Engine would turn over but not start. Car towed to local mechanic who diagnosed problem as defective crankshaft sensor. Hard to steer with the engine dead. Not sure if my wife could have turned the car or not. Extremely dangerous.
The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler 300m. During an oil change, the mechanic noticed that the tread for the drain plug was wearing thin and the oil pan and plug needed to be replaced. Chrysler is aware of the failure and stated that it only occurs with the 300m and concorde vehicles. The tool that mechanics use to perform the oil changes is the cause of the failure because it damages the tread. Chrysler stated that she would have to pay $575 plus tax for the replacement. The contact informed them to tape the pan and plug instead. She filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were 94,815. Updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07.
The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler 300m. On July 29, 2007, while parked in the driveway for five hours, the vehicle caught fire. The vehicle and three other vehicles were destroyed. The driveway sustained property damage. A fire report was filed. The powertrain was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 110,000.
While driving at highway speeds of 65-75, car stops running. After pulling off the road, it restarted after 30 minutes. Mechanic could find no cause. No problems for 2-3 days of driving and it did it again stranding my daughter-in-law and her baby. Mechanic replaced fuel pump. A couple of days later it happens again. Mechanic now has the gas tank off the car. I have seen 9-10 similar cases for the 99 300 and later years. Help! this is dangerous and costly.
The temperature gauge works slow to read outside temperatures.
