On two occasions, the lug studs on the right front wheel have sheared, leaving only two (2) lug nuts holding the drive wheel on the vehicle. This occurred in April of 2007 and again in April of 2008. Both times, the wheels had been rotated prior to a long trip on the vehicle. The vehicle was driven from west virginia to florida, and on the return trip after approximately 1300 miles, the same wheel (drive wheel) lugs again failed. If this had not been noticed while operating the vehicle at highway speeds, the potential for disaster could have been very real.

The contact's spouse owns a 1999 Chrysler 300m. While his spouse was driving approximately 25 mph, the front passenger side of the vehicle fell on the ground. The contact inspected the vehicle and found 5 lug nut bolts sheared on the wheel hub. The vehicle was towed to a dealer; yet it has not been diagnosed. There were no injuries. The current and failure mileages were 125000. Updated 12/04/07.
On August 25 2005 while driving on interstate the owner pulled over to get off the interstate. Approached the stop sign, turned right, and the right passenger's side tire fell off. The owner was going about 8 mph when the tire came off. The owner got out and inspected the vehicle. The tire rolled 300 yards down the street. The owner retrieved the tire. The studs that held the lugs:nuts broke. The lugs:nuts were still attached to the studs. The police came and made a report which indicated that the cause of the accident were these studs. The car was towed to an auto body shop. The owner has not called Chrysler yet, but will do so soon. The owner contacted the dealership, and they advised the owner that he would have to pay for repairs. The owner did not have a problem with the tire, but a problem is with the lug:nuts and studs. The owner had no previous problems with this vehicle. There were no recalls on the wheels.
