Chrysler 300M owners have reported 18 problems related to wheel rim (under the wheel category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chrysler 300M based on all problems reported for the 300M.
The manufactured rims on our 1999 Chrysler 300m no longer hold air (rim #lg40rav or lc40rav). All four rims have a slow leak, even after new tires were installed. The local dealer and a few local tire shops have inspected the rims and all concluded the metal rims are defective, they are deteriorating on the inside; all seem to suspect it is likely the rims were made with poor quality metal. Chrysler customer service (800-992-1997, millie, emp#4mc, & her supervisor, robin, emp#5rs) indicates they have no way of knowing why the rims no longer work (suggested a driver may have hit a curb) and Chrysler will not replace the rims or look further into the situation, because the warranty is no longer valid. They indicated that they do not and will not replace these rims unless forced by a recall. The local dealership indicates the replacement cost for the rims is $2,828, the car's value is only worth a little more than twice that amount.

I have a 2000 Chrysler 300 m that has chrome/aluminum wheels. About 8 months ago I noticed that I was losing substantial pressure in my tires on a regular basis. Thinking this was a problem with the tires, I took the car back to the store where I purchased the tires. Upon inspection, the service technician pointed out that my rims were corroding from the inside and that this affected the bead on the tire and caused it to lose pressure. He indicated that this was a "big problem" for Chrysler cars and that the rims were "junk". I experience additional loss of pressure about every 5 weeks or so and have taken the car back to the tire dealer three times. Each time they point to the corrosion and their frustration with Chrysler not dealing the problem. After the last incident I contacted a local Chrysler dealer and spoke to one of their service technicians. When I explained the situation he said that it was a known problem and that other Chrysler vehicles had the same issue, including the pt cruiser. He said that there was no recall and that Chrysler was not allowing them to do anything about it other than grind down the corrosion and remount the tire, at the owners' expense. This is unacceptable. Having tires lose pressure because of a defect in the design and performance of the wheel is a clear safety hazard. I hope NHTSA will look into this and require Chrysler to stand behind its product. Thank you.

I have a 2002 Chrysler 300m. The design of the wheel rim is bad. The rims of my car are badly corroded. It is not possible to see the corrosion due to the design of the wheel. My front tire, both, started losing air. This was noticed when I went to turned when it was raining and my car skidded. Luckily nobody was in the other lane. I took the car to get new tire and was told that it was not my tires it was the rim. The tire will not seal to the rim do to the corrosion. When I called the first representative hung up on me and was rude. The next person was very nice, but could not help me. I will replace the rims myself. I understand that rims sometimes do this, but as the tire place told me. Chryslers in particular this design on the 300m are by far the worst and they have never seen rims as corroded as mine.

Mag rims eroded from the inside, causing the tire not to seal or hold air. Consumer did not take the rims back to the dealer.
My 2003 300m has chrome wheels that hold snow and ice. The out of balanced condition requires to drive no faster than 30 mph until the ice is removed. The vibration is so great that I feel damage is being done to the front suspension.

The rim on the front driver side vehicle was causing the tire to go flat, which is affected the driver's ability to control vehicle when on the road. Owner contacted manufacturer and they were aware of the problem.
Complaint is with the alloy wheels on the 2000 Chrysler 300m sedan. The design of the alloy wheels apparently is open and is very prone to winter roadway salt which over time creates pitted areas on the wheels resulting in the loss of tire pressure. Over the past year or so, I have experienced this 4 times with pressures dropping to 10-25 lbs. The temporary fix suggested by the dealer is to have the pits ground down on the wheels (which I have had done to each wheel both at the dealer and at the tire company where I purchased the tires). The cost to replace the wheels at the dealer is $665 each!! I am very concerned about the safety of the car. The tires are 225/55 r 17 97h ch95 and it is difficult to determine if they are low on air by just looking at them. I worry about the tire air pressure dropping causing an accident on an expressway at high speeds. The dealer is aware of this condition occurring on other 330m's. What options do I have?.
The consumer states she has to replace all four tires every six months. The dealer states the rims are corroded which causes a leakage. In warm weather the rims were fine but when the cold had come the tire pressure was checked everyday.
Severe corrosion on bead area of chrome rim, resulting in a "slow leak" (1-2 psi daily).
Consumer states that right rim cracked down the middle of rim. Dealer notified.
The wheels of our 1999 Chrysler 300m have been leaking for over two years. The problem seems to be the chrome plating over the aluminum. It is scaling and corroding along the edge of the rim, so an air seal is almost impossible. We have had occasion when employees have taken the car and found it to swerve to the left or right - only to find that the air pressure has been depleted to 10-15 psi.
I have been having problems with my wheels for at least 4 or 5 years and have been trying to get Chrysler to replace them. I get flat tires often which is a pain. I am 63 now and do not have help with this. I bought a compressor to assist me in an emergency. I have bee out in snow storms with flat tires. I was told by marketplace Chrysler, rochester, NY that I could buy some wheels to replace the ones I have. The main company daimler Chrysler was contacted by email and telephone and they would not replace them. Both daimler and marketplace have been aware of the problem, but it is too costly for them to correct. I have gone to dunn tires. Rochester, NY. They said that this is a problem in the north. Dunn put nitrogen in the tires which has helped a little, but I still get flat tires. I feel when you pay as much as I have for a car, you do not want to buy new wheels. My coworker told me about your site when I was talking about the problems I was having with Chrysler. I noticed that they made sure that the 300 does not have the same wheel problem. Interesting.
Front driver's sid e and passenger's side f along witht passenger side rear tire have been leaking air due to design of rims. Contacted dealer. Please provide further information.
The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler 300 m. The contact stated that tires were losing air pressure, and has to put air into the tires about two or three times per week. The contact stated that this problem has been occurring since 2001. The contact replaced the tires five times since he purchased the vehicle. The tires were replaced approximately every 30,000 miles. The contact had the vehicle inspected by a dealership, and they stated t there was a problem with the rims of this type of vehicle. The dealership stated the contact needed to replace the rims. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall on this vehicle.
I had a 1999 Chrysler 300 which developed wheel erosion at 3 years old and 97000 miles driven. A vibration developed that could not be fixed because the wheels could no longer be balanced. All 4 wheels had to be replaced at my expense as Chrysler refused to consider any warranty. Wheels are not a consumable.
Over the past 3 years the tires on the vehicle go flat due to a defect in the chrome plated aluminum rims that came on the vehicle. The dealer has indicated to me that there is a problem with all rims of this type due to the fact that the chrome plating when put on an aluminum rim causes a reaction that causes the rims to corrode from the inside out. When the corrosion erupts along the bead area of the tire it breaks the seal and causes the tire to go flat. I have spoken to Chrysler directly and they claim that they are not aware of any such problem. However the new vehicles that have this type no longer use chrome but have a plastic chrome piece which is glued on to the aluminum rim. If this had not been a defect why would they have changed the design.
There was a problem with the tires not holding air because of the rims. The issue occurred on all four tires. The problem has been occurring since the consumer purchased the vehicle in August 1999. There have been no accidents.
Problems with the rims leaking air and the tires collapsing while driving. The consumer was told by the dealer that the rims were the problem, however they refused to replace them. The aluminum and chrome rims wore out from the winter salt on the inside of the rims and caused them to leak and eventuality the tire broke away from the rim and collapsed.
