A NHTSA recall, #98v183000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the park/neutral start switch however, the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.

2 Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch problem of the 1997 Chrysler Cirrus

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

Automatic transaxle floor shifter moves from park back and forth without depressing the detent button. The dealer failed to correct the recall problem. The ignition would become trapped once in while. After gently wiggling it, the key would snap out and operate properly, staying in park and allowing the key to be removed. Recall#98v183000.

3 Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch problem of the 1999 Chrysler Cirrus

Failure Date: 06/12/2000

Automatic transmission interlock system: the device is supposed to lock the gear shift until the key is on. However, gear shift can be shifted at any time. Dealer says it's covered under warranty. Consumer feels this is very dangerous to her children. Also, seat belt on rr side broke while trying to fasten it on. 2 springs came out of the shoulder part of the clip. Ref ie03013.

Possible interlock system failure caused the vehicle in accident. The consumer had filed claim with the other vehicle's insurance. The subrogation specialist jacqueline martin attached the recall.
