I currently own a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus v6. Auto is equipped with a 41te automatic transmission with 104,000 miles on it. According to al web sites I have come to find that the 41te automatic transmission has proven to be an unreliable unit resulting in premature failure and bearing failure. Chrysler has refused to acknowledge the defect. As of this writing the pinion bearings have failed in my vehicle and Chrysler has refused to repair as this is an ongoing problem with this transmission for which the manufacturer denies an responsibility. There are thousands of people like me out there with no recourse. Estimated repair cost $2,000. 00. 1999 Chrysler Cirrus v6

The transmission shut down without warning. There was no movement at all. The vehicle had to be towed. Dealership was aware of the problem. Please submit additional information concerning this problem.
The vehicle 'changed gears' while driving along a major highway, as if it slipped into park or reverse. The tires began to spin uncontrollably and the rpm and engine was raised. Managed to maneuver the vehicle off the main road to avoid being hit from the rear by oncoming traffic. Turned engine off, put the car into park, and restarted car. Put the car into drive but the car would not shift beyound 2nd gear. Mechanic does not recognize 'code' and states that the transmission has to be rebuilt. Thank god, I was alone in the car (I was headed to school to pick up my teenage daughter), and could manage to get it off of the main highway and out of heavy traffic to avoid a major accident and posible fatalities.

The repairing Chrysler dealer says repairs will cost approx. $1200. 00. He is going to be talking to the Chrysler rep. ,but does not think she will do anything about the problem, from a CO. Standpoint. Does a consumer have to replace transmissions every 27 - 29,000 miles of service. I would like to know if this is a big problem with Chrysler products. I know several people who have had transmission problems with their Chrysler autos. .
