Chrysler Concorde owners have reported 9 problems related to trunk lid (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Yesterday I had to go to the hospital because the trunk lid fell on my neck when I was unloading my trunk. This car has an electrical trunk that opens and the trunk also, has a spring air rod that controls the hold of the open trunk. I know this failed because the trunk just lost its hold all of a sudden and landed on my neck. As I tried to lift it from above me (its very heavy- big trunk), my left hand index finger broke and my left arm and hand are in pain. Not to mention, the severe pain I am undergoing with my neck. I also bled a lot and immediately went to the emergency room. I believe this can be a manufacturing defect due to the excessive weight of this trunk door and the device being relied on for the control of trunk.

The hydraulic mechanism's that hold up the trunk and the hoods on Chrysler concords and other models have a tendency to allow the hood or trunk to close suddenly without warning. I have experienced this on my 2000 concord and my mother's concord also. It is not a matter or excess wear because there are only 50, 000 miles on my car the hood has only been opened about a dozen times give or take a few. The event that prompted me to file this complaint left a huge welt on my head, almost knocked me unconscious in a store parking lot, and made it necessary for me to seek medical advise from the bcbs hotline. The trunk of my car closed suddenly while I was moving my head toward it to put groceries in the truck. I have also had the hood slam shut on me but at the time I was not under it. The hood and trunk have considerable weight and if they catch someone with the full force of their fall I have no doubt it could be fatal. The failure is more prevalent in cold weather. In fact, my trunk and hood will not stay up on their own in cold weather and this is since the car was new. The incident that happened to me happened in warm weather however. I am surprised there has never been a recall on these parts. As I stated earlier I have seen this problem on more than one Chrysler. This never happened when the hoods and trunks were held open with springs. So much for advanced technology.

At times, when the trunk is open and the trunk lid appears to be locked in the full-open position, it will silently slam shut. This has happened while I am leaning into the trunk. It has hit me hard on the back of my head three times, leaving bruises. It also hit my husband on the back of his head once. Because the trunk is so long, we have to lean in far to reach items, exposing our heads to the descending trunk lid. We are also worried that our three year old daughter who is eager to help out reaches into the trunk while we are loading / unloading the car and that she could get hurt. The lid landing on her head or arms would be crippling. The long trunk lid is heavy so it picks up a lot of speed and hits hard. It also does not help that the part of the trunk lid that hits is hard folded sheet metal (as opposed to the softer plastic housing for the latch). Usually, the trunk lid does stay up. This problem only happens when it's cold - and then sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes.

Trunk gas struts have failed twice. The original and a warranty replacement set. The car has about 54000 miles as of now. The last set let the trunk lid almost fall and strike my wife on the head while loading groceries.
Contact stated that the trunk lid fell on his head and caused an injury. The lifts that hold the trunk lid up failed. The dealer has not been contacted yet. The manufacturer informed him there were no recalls on the trunk and offered no free remedy. He had the problem for two years, but did not experience an injury until now. The lifts that hold the truck lid open were not replaced after the injury.
2000 Chrysler concord. The consumer stated when opening the trunk it fell down hard. The hydraulic lifts that hold the trunk open had to be replaced. The dealership did not know why this happened. The consumer stated the trunk was not opened often. Both were replaced, left and right lifts.
Lack of drainage increasing accident potential. No drain hole or plug the water accumulated in spare tire after each rainfall. The trunk was full of water. The consumer discovered items in the trunk wet. The consumer also noticed that the bottom would become wet without any rain. The spare tire well was full of water to a depth of over four inches.

The contact stated the mechanic at the local dealership told him the hydraulic lift that holds up the trunk was not designed to hold the load. While in use the trunk fell and hit him in the neck. He usually can catch the trunk before it falls. This has been happening since purchase of vehicle. The dealership stated the hydraulic lift needed to be replaced on both sides. Also, stated the vehicle was low to the ground, the front end scraped while backing out of the driveway or driving over a bump. He has taken the vehicle to two dealerships, and was willing to pay out of pocket. Both dealership stated there was nothing that could be done.
