36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2012

I purchased my 2007 Pacifica in 2009 with about 30,000 miles from Chrysler, elk grove, California. Upon reaching about 57,000 miles, when accelerating, I would hear loud metal banging from the engine area. I would also feel a hard jolt when accelerating. After visiting Chrysler, elk grove service center, I was told that 3 of my Pacifica engine motor mounts failed and needed immediate replacement at about $1000. 00 dollars. I asked if this problem would occur again and was told “I should have no further problems with the engine mounts” by Chrysler, elk grove. I paid for replacement. At approximately 105,000 miles, I began to here loud metal pounding after accelerating from the engine area. I could hear metal knocking when I slowly drove over bumps in the street. I could also feel my car give a hard jolt when accelerating. After visiting the Chrysler, elk grove service center, I was told 3 of the engine mounts failed and needed immediate replacement for $1083. 00 dollars. I told the service person that I had the same service repair and was told there would be no additional problems. Chrysler service replied “the engine mounts on the Chrysler fail due to wear and tear”. My concerns are I don’t feel safe knowing that my engine is not properly secured to the frame of my vehicle. Chrysler service also told me driving with failed mounts will lead to other problems. There is no warning when these engine mounts will fail. The service manual does not mention these parts should be inspected for wear and tear at certain intervals or miles. Please help with failed motor mounts.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Broken motor mount under the front right of motor. Chrysler service contract ([xxx]) said it is not covered under their extended warranty. I feel this can be a dangerous situation. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

At approximately 40,000 miles, while a computer-related recall repair was being performed, I was informed by the Chrysler dealership that motor mounts were a potential problem & to keep a watch on it. I thought this was an odd comment at the time, as the car was barely 3 years old (and, of course, out of warranty). Fast forward to approximately 70,000-75,000 miles, and we started having issues. They are particularly noticeable when I am slowing to a stop, and then re-accelerate (for instance, the light changed green right as I was slowing to a stop, so I would take my foot off the brake & then accelerate instead) - the car won't move right away, and then it suddenly "clunks" into gear & lurches forward. The force is so strong that I have almost rear-ended someone on several different occasions. I have contacted Chrysler regarding the issue - have been told it isn't covered as my car is out of warranty. I thought Chrysler would certainly issue a recall, due to the sheer volume of complaints online regarding this same issue - but so far they have not. I finally brought my vehicle in to be repaired - I was told four mounts are bad! I drive almost all freeway miles in suburban area - no gravel roads, etc. - this should not be occurring. I am still hoping for a recall as this is dangerous and I feel whoever supplied these bad parts should have to stand behind their premature failure.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

First week in June I sent my Chrysler Pacifica to athens Dodge Chrysler Jeep in bogart GA. The steering was locking up on my wife. I figured it was maybe the power steering. The tech informed me that the motor mounts were again broken and they replaced the right one for the third time. I read in social car chat rooms that the motor mounts are failing in just about all these type cars, and that Chrysler was not going to cover the costs. I now have a car that no one will buy or at least I wouldn't because it can't hold its own engine. I know this is a consumer concern just wanted to point that out. My main concern is the steering locking up with my family on board. Motor mounts are not supposed to break unless there is a major accident. In my opinion this is a manufacturers design flaw that they are dumping on us consumers. I mean if they told me the motor mounts were going to be a maintenance issue I would have never bought the car. This is absolutely ridiculous, and now my concern is the safety of my family. Please advise me on what I can do to find some kind of help with this. I am not the only one. Where else can I complain and steer others to. Kerry roe.

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced several failures in which the vehicle would fail to accelerate when engaged, the air conditioning was erroneously blowing hot air and the engine would shift when driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the fuel tank and the air conditioning system. The motor mount brackets were also replaced by a local mechanic. After the repairs, the gear shifter could not be shifted from park. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who advised that the gear shifter had to be replaced. The gear shifter was not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. The approximate current mileage was 70,000.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2011

Have been experiencing a clunk from the right wheel well for a few weeks. Had midas look at it last week while replacing front brakes, but they said they didn't see anything. This week, was getting oil change and transmission flushed. Mentioned the noise again, and this time was told the noise was due to engine mount failure of the left and right engine mounts. I in turn called my local Chrysler dealership since I purchased my car with the lifetime power train warranty as well as an extended warranty, and was told that neither one of these would cover the replacement. Then, Chrysler proceeded to quote me a replacement cost that was $300 over my midas quote. I asked the technician, "doesn't this seem to be a premature failure, since I only have 67,000 miles?" to which he replied, "yes it does. " he also said the reason this part is not covered is because it is considered a "consumable" part. Really? can I buy that with my oil? but, based on all of the complaints I have seen about this on numerous websites, engine mounts are as consumable as brake pads where Chrysler is concerned. Needless to say, I told the technician that I would not be taking my car to the dealership for this repair. I came home and decided to google this problem to see if it was a common occurrence, and OH my! Chrysler needs to recall the engine mounts and refund their customers who have had to pay for these repairs since none of their warranties seem to! take responsibility for your product. This was a $36,000 car!.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2011

Failed motor mounts. I am the original owner of a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. I took the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that the motor mounts had failed and needed to be replaced. Chrysler was made aware of the failure. And they stated that no recalls had been issued. Mileage at the time of diagnosis was 59,000. As the vehicle was out of the basic warranty, and mounts are not covered under the powertrain warranty, I was told I have no coverage for repair of this known defect. Manufacturer suggested that I pay for the repair at the dealership, at the wildly inflated dealer pricing, and then they would see if there was anything they could do regarding a possible partial reimbursement after the fact. I may have been dumb enough to buy a Chrysler, but I'm not that dumb. An estimate from a private garage was 50% less. A review of this site and the broader internet shows this to be a known and common problem with these vehicles. How many of these failures need to be reported before a recall is issued?.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2009

The first time I had to have the motor mounts replaced on my 07' Chrysler Pacifica was in 2009. There was an awful almost slamming type noise and the vehicle "jumped" when accelerating. I took the vehicle to the dealership, it was still under warranty at that time and they said the motor mounts were cracked and they would replace them, but couldn't guarantee how long they would last. The mechanic said that it was "an issue" on the Pacifica model as it was a design flaw and he had seen this problem often. Since the first time the motor mounts were found to be cracked in 2009, I have had to replace the motor mounts 2 more time and now they are broke again; totaling 4 times in 7 years!!! this is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable! I have called Chrysler quite a few times in the last 4 years and got nowhere! they could not care less that the consumer has to pay for their "design flaw"! if I had known that I would have the same problem keep repeating, I 100% would not have bought this vehicle! and if I had known that Chrysler would give me an arousing "OH well, too bad for you", I 110% would not have bought from this company! how sad that even after all the money they have made off people buying their products they won't do anything to help! inexcusably disgusting!!.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

Shortly after purchasing this vehicle from the dealer in October 2008, I noticed that the car seemed to lurch when I stepped on the gas from a full stop. I brought it back to the dealer on several occasions, but they did not think there was a problem. In 2009, they went out of business and I took the car to be inspected by another dealership. They found that two engine mounts were broken. Luckily it was covered by the warranty. At my last inspection, it was found that my other two mounts have broken. This I had to pay out of my own pocket, as the warranty expired. I am wondering if I am going to have to keep replacing these every year? also, is this a fire hazard? is this a hazard in a car accident? I think Chrysler needs to be held accountable for this problem and come up with a solution to permanently fix the engine mounts.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

On April 15th 2008 at approximately 8:45am I was driving our brand new Chrysler Pacifica limited addition. I pulled into the parking of 2155 suite b electric rd, roanoke, va 24018. As I got out of the car with my 2yr old daughter the car caught on fire underneath the hood. It caused $5,000 of damage to the building as well as damaged the car completely(we have many pictures). The fire department arrived at the scene within two minutes and was able to prevent further damage to the building. Our insurance preceded with an investigation and found that the fire started around the steering fluid or the anti-freeze. Their findings concluded even though it was burned to the ground that it was the steering fluid. Chrysler had their own forensics come out and all they did was take pictures and report back to their headquarters. Within a week and a half we were informed by a letter that it was not a manufactured default. But would not let us know what "caused" it. It was a brand new Chrysler with only 6,700 miles on it. We bought it brand new. If you could please help us with any information you have we would truly appreciate it. We have no car and Chrysler does not want to help us but it would be helpful to know what "caused" it. If it isn't the steering fluid leak than what caused a brand new car to catch fire and go up in flames? sincerely, mary-kathryn bailey.
