My husband was driving my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica on 9/9/2019 around an s turn when suddenly the van lost its power steering. He could not control the vehicle that was traveling approximately 30 mph. He couldn't break and the van hit a curb which caused the vehicle to blow out both driver side tires and rip the drivers front strut apart. In June of 2019 after receiving the notice of recall v53, I took my van to the dealership to fix that recall and any other recalls it may have. I waited approximately and 1 hour and 30 minutes while my vehicle was being fixed. I was told that all were completed and was handed the keys. Right after the accident I received an email about the recall. I called the dealership and they told me they didn't fix recall number v53. I contacted Chrysler about the accident and they sent an investigator out to inspect the van. In return I received a letter from fca saying that they couldn't find any issues. I formally believe a malfunction happened at the time of the accident. Over the course of several months since owning the vehicle it had showed signs of an existing problem which we made complaints at the dealership and nothing was ever found. When you come to a stop or slow down to come to a stop/yield and accelerate the van would buck and or jerk as if it were to loose power and shut off. Something is wrong with the van whether it's related to recall v53 or an un-identified problem.
I was driving down the interstate at 70mph and all of a sudden the van told me to put it in park and restart the vehicle. As I'm sitting in the middle of the interstate in rush hour traffic and cars flying past me I discover I'm locked out of my own engine. The brakes were locked, I couldn't restart the vehicle, I tried opening my door, after the van came to a stop, to get the van to reset but nothing worked. Finally the van allowed me to start the vehicle back up after several minutes of being stranded in the middle of the interstate. I had lost power steering and wasn't able to pull over alongside the shoulder nor could I brake or accelerate! I had to wait for the car to come to a stop and then had to troubleshoot why my engine locked me out in the middle of a 4 lane highway.
On 4 occasions I lost ability to accelerate. I push on the gas and the car won't go. It just stops or stalls. The power is on but car won't go. I seem to lose some power steering. Twice this was while making a left turn with traffic coming toward me on a busy street. I was stalled in the middle of the road . Finally the van began to work again and shot me forward abruptly. Today 11/27/17 I brought it to Chrysler dealership. They are telling me a software update will fix it but I'm skeptical and afraid to drive it.
We purchased the vehicle at a local dealership in July 2017. In August, vehicle lost power steering communication unexpectedly. Dealership was able to restore power steering, however, they were not entirely sure of the cause. In October, the vehicle lost electrical communication and was stuck on a busy highway off-ramp after stopping at a stop light. We were unable to move the car for 30 minutes. Dealership unable to determine the cause and advised us that the car company said they needed to give us the car back. The car has been in the shop for a total 22 of days and nothing was fixed the second time to prevent this from happening again.
The minivans engine and all electronics will shut off while in drive, we lose power steering and are prompted to shift to park and restart, it's happened 3 times so far once driving 45mph on a city street, once at a red light in drive on a larger highway and once in park in a parking garage.
