After safety recall 73b was performed on my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid on 08/25/2025, the vehicle's check engine light illuminated on 09/09/2025. I was inundated with multiple failure lights including; check engine, service electronic throttle control, service hybrid electric vehicle system, blind spot alert, and I felt like I lost power steering. I was unsure if the van was safe to drive, but was able to get it to the dealership. They were able to pull multiple codes. Including the one for the check engine light. They decided that the problem was related to the abs control module. They replaced it and the van has been fine so far. It seems these error codes are widespread after performing recall 73b. Many other customers are complaining of the same thing. I believe these errors are from the testing to the high voltage battery, and their 'software fix'. It's not safe to lose your power steering while driving. It's not safe to have multiple error codes continuously going off while operating the car. It's not safe to have a family car that we have been told twice to not park in the garage, charge, or park near a structure. This is their second attempt at 73b, and overall the second fire recall. My van and high voltage battery are definitely available for inspection.

After the latest 73b recall, the engine light sporadically turn on. In one occasion, while cruising at low speed ~25mph in the electric mode, the vehicle switched to gas engine mode even there was 16 electric miles on the battery. This issue was not there prior to the recall. Need investigation on the software reliability and the underlying battery issue.

On 8/12/2025, he vehicle displayed a warning that said "stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon" shortly after it was parked. It also displayed a red turtle and the check engine light. There was no warning or check engine light prior to the message that the vehicle was going to shut off. Fortunately, we had already parked safely, but were on the freeway traveling and about an hour away from home. It was 100 degrees outside, and we were stranded with no help from Chrysler customer care other than to tow the vehicle, leaving our kids and dog in a parking lot with no car. We declined this option and had it checked by a diagnostic computer at jiffy lube, which returned no diagnostic code. Eventually, all of the warnings and check engine lights went off, and we were able to take it home. We took it to the dealership at the earliest opportunity on 08/14, and they confirmed that this is a known issue and would require a transmission replacement. There is no timeline on the repair or replacement, only that it will take "a while". They do not advise that we take the van back because the issue could come nback at any moment and the vehicle could shut off without warning.

After not driving the car for a full day or so, when I drive down my street about 1/4 of a mile to a stop sign and stop the vehicle will not accelerate from the stop. I press on the gas but the car goes around 5 mph for the next 50-100 feet or so and will not accelerate before finally kicking in and accelerating normally. This has happened over 20 times since purchasing the vehicle as new in late March of 2025.
On August 2, while traveling about 75 mph, the check engine light came on along with the warning "stop safely – vehicle will shut off soon". The vehicle started immediately losing power. We were driving in the fast lane in traffic so pulling over was difficult and dangerous. After we were to the side of the road, we turned the van off. After 10 minutes or so, we continued on and pulled over at a rest stop. We have an obd2 and checked the codes. At first, there were no codes even though the check engine light was on. After checking a few times, there were 2 codes. They were p1c65 pd and p0a43. I took the van into the dealership on August 4. They saw one of the codes saved. On August 7 the dealership preformed a software update. They were not able to reproduce the issue. Today, September 19, while driving, the check engine light came on with the warning "stop safely – vehicle will shut off soon". The vehicle again started immediately losing power. This time it happened when traveling about 45 mph.
The hybrid battery overheated and started burning the interior of the vehicle while it sat turned off charging in the garage. Smoke filled the house which had to be evacuated. Emergency services were called and the fire department brought the incident under control. An incident report was completed by the fire department and the vehicle is currently in the possession of insurance who is doing their own evaluation. There were no warning indicators or other problems prior to this happening.

On Thursday, July 3, we were on our way out of town and had just gotten on a highway when I smelled something burning, saw smoke (we thought was steam at the time) coming from the hood and heard the engine making a grinding, or rattling noise so we pulled over immediately. My husband got out of the car to start to take a look when another vehicle who had just passed us backed up and motioned frantically saying “your car is on fire!” so we got out and looked under the front of the car and sure enough, there was liquid spilling onto the ground and fire coming from underneath. So we quickly got away from the car and called 911. Another gentleman who had been going west also stopped to make sure everyone was okay and was also calling 911. Within 10-14 minutes the front of the car was totally engulfed in flames.
The van did not transition from electric to gas engine when driving and battery for the electrical engine was depleted. The dash board displayed a red turtle and said slow on dashboard. But it would not drive forward. I was on a hill and the van backed down the hill in reverse. I did this multiple times - turn off van, restart van and try to go up hill, reverse it down hill again. At some point, there was enough electricity for the electrical engine to kick in and I was able to drive home. After the van set for a while, it restarted and I was able to drive it to my ultimate destination 147 miles away. I researched online and found there is a recall for this very thing, but it does not include my car. Why is my life so hard? its a new van to me.
6/21/25 , a Saturday, I stopped at a traffic light when gas saver function kicked in and shut car off. The car went into park mode by itself and parking brake engaged. The car would not start and had to be towed. It sat until Monday when I was able to start it and drive it to my mechanic's business a mile from my location and shut it off. Immediately after shutting it off it would not start again. My mechanic was able to start it a few days later and when he drove it about 5 miles it just shut off and wouldn't start again. Today he is replacing the starter and believes the gas saver function may have contributed to the increased wear on the starter leading to failure, as well as the heat from the catalytic converter located near the starter. I am very nervous about driving this car again and worry it may happen again when I am in traffic. This is a major safety problem if not resolved.

While exiting an interstate, the van felt like it had popped out of gear and lost power, and the instrument cluster had the message "stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon. " I was in the middle of three lanes on the ramp, and due to traffic and no shoulder I was unable to stop off the side of the road. The van died at the top of the ramp at the traffic light, causing a risk of being rear-ended by approaching traffic. I had my two children in the van at the time. After attempting to cycle the ignition several times and stepping out to wave traffic around as the traffic light cycled several times (causing a traffic backup), the van started and drove normally albeit with the check engine light on. I have not had the time to take the van to a dealership for diagnoses, but looking online this is not an unknown problem and is related to the Pacifica hybrid's transmission. Just wanting to make NHTSA aware of another event of this fault occurring.
While at freeway speed (~75mph) "vehicle will shut off shortly" warning appeared and lost propulsion. I pulled over and was able to get to a rest stop at reduced speed (~35mph) with the remaining battery power but it was not ideal as shoulder was limited due to road construction and could not leave vehicle on side of the road. Prior software update 03a / 23v-010 was performed as it looks to be a known condition. The software update does not repair the root cause of the failure.
While driving 70mph on the expressway the dash randomly sent a message saying “pull over vehicle shutting off” and then it put itself into limp mode. Thankfully we were able to coast to the small shoulder and put on our hazards. This happened at 2am with 4 kids in the car. Nothing in the car would work, it wouldn’t turn on, shift, nothing. We had to sit on the side of the expressway for hours waiting for a tow. While waiting it had the check engine light on, limp mode light, and messages to service hybrid system & plug in battery for reconditioning. It is waiting to be serviced, but there is a very limited amount of techs that will service it due to being a hybrid.

Soon after having recall 73b completed on my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica plug in hybrid the check engine illuminated with dtc p0bbe. The vehicle no longer accepts a charge through the charge port and is now indicating there is an error with the high voltage battery. This issue has happened within 147 miles of driving. I can no longer use the vehicle as it is now in limp mode.
User bought 2018 Chrysler Pacifica phev in 2019. User had no issues with the vehicle, all recalls completed, until the completion of NHTSA recall 22v-077 (Chrysler recall 73b). Recall 73b was completed on 13 Feb 2025 with approx. 103,000 miles on the vehicle. The recall included flashing the hv battery pack control module and a "soak" of the hv battery to determine battery health; servicing dealer reported recall successful and battery health test found battery health was good. Approximately 1 week following the recall, the check engine light came on and stayed on for a couple of days and "self cleared". Several weeks later, the same sequence of events as above occurred once again. On 9 April, following a full charge overnight, I started the vehicle and the gas motor immediately started, check engine light illuminated, "turtle mode" icon appeared, and I was notified that "vehicle speed may be limited". After completing the short trip in "limp mode", I restarted the vehicle and only the check engine light was visible, van ran as normal. The following morning, no issues at all. Took the van to be diagnosed and was told an actuator in the dash needed replaced; actuator replaced. Five days later, once again, started the vehicle and the gas motor immediately started, check engine light illuminated, "turtle mode" icon appeared, and I was notified that "vehicle speed may be limited". Took the van to the dealership, at 106,163 miles, for diagnosis and have been told that the hv battery is now dead and must be replaced. Dealership quotes $16,000. 00 to replace hv battery and stellantis (Chrysler parent company) would not deal with me as the battery warranty expired at 100,000 miles. Many other complaints like this following the 73b recall reported to nthsa, this does not seem to be a coincidence. I had zero issues with this van until this recall was completed.
Numerous times over the last eighteen months, our 2023 Chrysler Pacifica phev enters 'turtle mode' where a red turtle illuminates on the dashboard, and the car loses all motive power. Sometimes this occurs on local streets, but most recently it occurred during interstate driving, requiring evasive maneuvers to exit the driving lanes and get to the shoulder before all forward momentum stopped. So far, turning off the vehicle, opening the driver's side door and re-starting the engine clears the problem temporarily, but yesterday - [xxx] - the vehicle entered 'turtle mode' eight times during the four-hour car-ride from northern west virginia to northern virginia. Several visits to Chrysler dealerships have resulted in zero fixes as they have been unable to replicate the conditions. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I received a warning to park safely, engine will shut down soon. This is the third time it has happened. One time coming down a mountain with no place to pull over safely with a van full of family members. Second time at high speed on an interstate, this time on a high speed local road, but had enough time to pull over before losing power. The van has been in the shop and/or waiting for repairs for over 10 weeks during my 53 weeks of ownership. Chrysler has delayed accepting the recommended repairs that their dealer states is necessary. I have spoken to other Pacifica owners that has experienced the same issue. Is Chrysler waiting for folks to get killed before accepting responsibility?.
When driving on hybrid mode with battery charged up suddenly warning message showing “transmission failure” and message saying “stop safely vehicle is going to shut off soon”. Breaks don’t work as normal when this happens and vehicle wouldn’t stop immediately. Feels unsafe to drive. Engine warning lights turn on and stay for a day after this happens. Checked with dealership and they mentioned recall is still being worked upon and not yet available. Tried reaching mopar directly but no response yet.
We rented a '23 Pacifica from enterprise. While driving 70mph on an interstate in houston, a safety warning popped up "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon". On the interstate, I wasn't able to keep my speed. Speed dropped quickly and dramatically. Luckily, I was able to get to the side but could have been hit in the process. My 2 daughters were in the car. It was terrifying. According to my research Pacifica did a recall of 67k hybrids and their solution?? add software that gives a warning. That was the solution. Not to fix the deadly issue but to add a warning. [xxx] . Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
While driving at highway speed the vehicle flashed a vehicle and I’ll shut down sign. A red turtle flashed and the vehicle began to decelerate. Had to pull over to a less than safe sand shoulder. Had highway speed traffic directly behind me. Dealership pulled codes related to the transmission. No previous issues or sign thereof. 25k miles.
My 2018 Chrysler Pacifica has confirmed internal engine damage—scoring in the cylinder wall—diagnosed by an authorized Chrysler dealer. This occurred with no abuse or neglect, and the failure is consistent with many documented reports involving the 3. 6l pentastar engine. Chrysler is aware of premature failures in this engine across various models, but has denied goodwill assistance in my case despite providing it in others. I have involved the washington state attorney general’s office (file #[xxx]), and I believe this should be part of a broader investigation into systemic engine defects that pose safety and financial risks to consumers. Mileage at failure: 77,000 diagnosed renton Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (wa) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
This is the second time we received an alert that our 2023 Pacifica hybrid minivan while driving sends an alert message to stop safely vehicle will shut off soon. A green turtle and red hazard triangle image accompanied the message. First time it occurred was Friday 3/7/2025 and again after servicing on 3/14/2025. Both times the vehicle was traveling at a lawful speed of 65 to 70. The first time it lost power and in order to get to side of road safely the gas pedal had to be pushed to floor to get a reaction and any power. The second time the power seemed to stay until we got to side of road. After turning vehicle off and then on- them message was off but the check engine light remained steadily on. Then upon restarting a second time after driving to dealer it turned off and stayed off. Dealer stated they could not get vehicle to demonstrate any issues and found a stored code that showed only p06de and no active faults. Car appeared to drive fine until the second incident on 3/14 when it occurred again. We have video of codes.
Our Pacifica has repeatedly stalled on freeways. The engine will just stop running and will not start for 15 minutes to several hours. If it does start, it often will sputter and stall again if you try to put it in ear or press the accelerator. After some time, the problem will resolve itself and the vehicle will drive normally. This problem is infrequent which is what makes it so vexing. Each incident was more than 6 months apart so you never know when it will just stall out. Because our van was converted to a rear entry wheelchair van by braunability we've had the conversion components/connections thoroughly inspected by the conversion company dealer. I can see online that this is a known issue with multiple vehicles equipped with the pentastar v6 engine with stop-start and that there have been recalls but many people on the forum, the recall work didn't resolve the issue. We've had the vehicle to Chrysler dealers several times (four or five) to address the issue without permanent resolution. We've replaced the primary and secondary batteries several times. We've recently installed an aftermarket stop-start eliminator recently in the hope that it will resolve the problem. Additionally, because our Pacifica was converted for our disabled child, we will probably need to sell the vehicle at a significant loss because we can't risk having the vehicle stall on the interstate highway or freeway as we have no way to remove him from it safely. This issue seems so widespread that Chrysler/stellantis should have continued responsibility to resolve it permanently.

I was driving down the highway. The check engine light comes on. Then a warning comes on that say prepare to stop the car will shut down. This is a hybrid. The electricity is depleted but the gas tank is half full. After turning the car off I can run it for a little while and then the same warning comes back.
My transmission went out at 108,000 miles. 6 out of 9 gears went bad. Had it replaced and it went out again 2 weeks later. The transmission dropped while I was driving but luckily I was pulling into a parking spot. Had to have another transmission installed. This scared me because my kid was in the car and was on the expressway a couple of minutes before it dropped. Also, the oil filter housing was cracked and I know this is a common problem because it is made of plastic.
Unknown, engine light came on flashing while driving. Car has been repaired by the dealership a few weeks ago and replaced the fuel pump.
While driving my children home from an evening activity, there was a strong odor of gas inside the cabin. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership the next morning for diagnostics and repairs. The dealership 's technician was able to reproduce the issue and upon further inspection discovered a small leak in the fuel line. It was determined that the fuel line had been rubbing against the coil pack, which created a small hole. The fuel was leaking onto the coil pack. This puts both the driver and the passengers at risk because the coil pack is in close proximity to the spark plugs. When there is a spark and gasoline, fires and/or explosions tend to be the result. The technician stated that there had been no tampering with the components and that the gap between the fuel line and the coil pack is very small. I believe that the gap is too small because normal operation of a vehicle should never cause a hole to be rubbed into a fuel line due to it's proximity to the coil pack. Prior to the smell of fuel, there were no other warnings. I have included pictures of the faulty part.
Over six months later, NHTSA campaign number: 24v538000 still has no remedy for an apparent fire risk! I can't charge my vehicle and I can't park it in my own garage. I drive at risk of being in the midst of a spontaneous fire! the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. I bought a plug in hybrid that I can't plug in. I bought it also for gas mileage complimented by the electrical propulsion system, which I cannot use. All the while, a spontaneous fire risk, without a fully known cause, continues to lurk in the car that I drive my kids to school in.
Hybrid system will not run on battery. Hybrid system shows 100% battery charge on dash. Hybrid mode screen shows engine at 12kw, battery use at 0kw, and climate at 7kw. S.
My vehicle suddenly lost power driving down the road at approximately 20mph. I rolled to the side and the vehicle engaged the electronic parking brake. It's been at Chrysler dealership for over a week and is now a stars case according to my service rep. .
The fuel cap snapped off. While trying to avoid a $1000 plus garage bill I was researching on how we could possibly fix this at home. While doing the research I’ve found hundreds if not thousands of people on Chrysler forums stating they’ve had the same issue and almost all breaks are identical. I/we that have these issues and them being so common including identical breakage find that it should be Chryslers problem to fix as they clearly used faulty products that now cause major emissions issues and fueling issues. Gas spills out everywhere as the pumps register the tank as full so it either stops the pump or it spews gas out not allowing the gas to go into the tank. I’d like this to be looked into as a bigger recall since it’s very obviously a huge issue in many Pacificas across the nation.
Our vehicle is always kept in a garage and rarely parked outside for extended periods of time (not a vehicle used for transportation to and from work on a daily basis). We had our check engine light come on. This resulted in us using our second vehicle for several days before determining days later that the check engine light was still on. We took it in and they said the stored code was for a small evap leak and said it was likely due to cold temperatures and ice build up around the edge of the vent that blocked the flap from opening. As mentioned, this vehicle was in a garage for several days leading up to the check engine light appearing and for several days after the initial appearance. When I asked the dealership doing the repair what we could do to prevent this from happening again they suggested we avoid having the vehicle parked outside in the cold. This seems to be an issue that should be handled by Chrysler as opposed to me as the consumer and causing me to pay $217. 31!.
As I was driving on the highway, the warning "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" with a red turtle icon appeared. The warning indicator light also appeared. The car began to decelerate on its own as I tried to merge across several lanes of highway traffic to get to the shoulder and stop. This first happened on Thursday December 12 (also in a highway scenario). The vehicle was inspected by my dealer from December 16-18. During that time the dealer updated software and replaced drivers side phev engine mount. The dealer cites "bulletin 21-042-24" as guidance for their troubleshooting. The dealer says if the problem returns, the vehicle will "need transmission according to bulletin 21-042-24. " I drove the vehicle fine on December 19-20 but the problem returned on Saturday, December 21. So the problem has occurred twice in 9 days.
The car was running great, but then I had the check engine light on. When I checked the vehicle with an obdd2, I got p0303 (misfired cylinder 3). A mechanic expert and I checked the vehicle for a possible blown head gasket, low compression, and defective spark plugs, and all was good. The car is a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica and should have problems of this kind.
While driving on the interstate in heavy traffic car displayed "stop safely - vehicle will shut off soon" power was reduced and van started slowing down. Turning the vehicle off and on again cleared the problem. Dealer installed a software update and informed us the issue was corrected. Problem persists, happened again at interstate speeds in traffic. Vehicle is now again in the shop for diagnosis.
Had check engine code p1c5e and vehicle would not charge. Dealership has confirmed that the lithium battery has failed and needs to be replaced. They communicated with Chrysler, opened a star case, and are in process of replacing the battery.
