Starting in the fall of 2006 when making a left turn it made a grinding, squealing noise. It was very loud. Thought it needed brakes, and had it checked . They were fine. Then, it felt like the tire was bad on the passenger's front. Took the car to dealer in mid March 2007 to have the tire checked and it was a loose axle instead. That stopped the squealing for the time being. Just recently we thought the rotors needed turned because the vibrations and noises had started again. On 5-06-07 my son was killed when he went off the right side of the road and supposedly overcorrected and rolled several times. After further investigation into the crash it was discovered that half of the front passenger rotor broke off with a bubble defect in the metal. There appeared to be an old crack across the rotor along with the brake that severed it. Not sure what was going on, but there' was obviously a problem with the front ends and if it saved a life it was worth checking into.

I have had to replace the front wheel assembly twice in less than a year. Purchased new wheel bearings and the entire hub assembly and even a whole new axle. Have continued to have problems. Was told by mechanic that the axle is too short and is coming loose resulting on the expedited wear on the bearings causing a need for a whole new assembly. I am extremely frustrated with this vehicle.
Car had shake in front through steering wheel and rt. Floorboard. Change tires and wheels. Changes tires twice. Replaced left front axle with single axle. Replaced same axle with two piece axle. Still has shake in it. Factory tech said live with it.

While driving approximately 35 mph front axle literally broke. There were no injuries.
The local dealer thought that the sound from the engine was that the turbo was blown. After 2. 5 weeks they then determined that the transmission pump had gone bad along with some sort of sensors. So then for the next 2 weeks plus they worked on that problem. Four days laterafter getting the car back, the front axle fell off the car!!!!! if I would have been on the freeway or traveling on a surface street, I or possibly others could have been killed and the manufacturer will only repair under warranty???!! I've now been waiting another 2. 4 weeks for the car and I try telling them that it is unsafe and I'm afraid to get back into the car. It has 7,777 mile on a Chrysler Pt Cruiser 2003. It has spent almost 8 weeks of it's short life in repair shop for one thing or another, and no one at Chrysler will listen or help, they keep saying the dm has made his decision, yeah with the service manager covering up for his mechanic. The mechanic admitted to me that he over tighten the bolts when he put my front end back together, and never even apologized for the oversight!!! if possible, I know the records don't really show all the work performed or a list of any parts replaced (at least not on my copies anyway), but could someone help me, please!!!???
thank you for your time

ps I keep telling them (Chrysler in auburn hill, mi 800-992-1997) that their name and reputation are the most important things you have, and they tell me that I'll have to sue through the lemon law in my state. Yeah, I'm believin' I'm gonna stay alive to talk see that through, but I'm going to be parking that Pt Cruiser if and when it's ready!!!
would you put your wife and family in this car? the mechanic or the service underwriter just walk away and the service manager still has not returned my phone calls, I'm forced to call through Chrysler in mi to get the answers. I will ask them to save the parts if possible?.

The trans axle broke in our 2001 Chrysler pt on sun-1/25/04 and was towed to the sarasota Chrysler dealer who got to it Tuesday to say not under warranty(we are 2nd owner-had 2 yrs) so need a new one. They did not offer to pull out and rebuild. It was under warranty, it would have been rebuilt. They did not notify us of recall nor fix that. We just moved here frommd. In August and did not get fuel recall somehow. Safety seat we did get ,but did not do. Due to $2400 quote, we towed the auto hme and gave them a deposit to order a new transmisson from Chrysler since a used one could not be found. Now we still do not have nor can be told when it will come in off "backorder"? for a 2001 popular auto? called Chrysler to verify to see what could be done since we are renting a car now for 3 weeks with 4 yr old car not working and cannot be fixed due to unavailable parts. It is not like it is a fiero or antique, or unusual. We called Chrysler who cheked with dealer on "recall " complaint -spoke to lisa and she said she did not ask them that. Asked her about parts and was told she could "rush" and hopefully get a transmisson for us soon, but we would have to pay extra! still no time frame was quoted. We are stuck and do not know where to turn . The car has not had other problems and only has under 60,000 miles so it is hard to understand that Chrysler will not stand behind their product or offer more help for consumer satisfaction on a very popular auto. It is a 5 spped. We would like to know who can help or what rights we have. VIN# 3c8fy4bb81t270539. . . . Please forward this or reply. I am so disappointed in this american product, that I may trade for foreign. Most sincerely, lynn and g thomas mullinix.
