2 Power Train problem of the 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/14/2023

The clutch will not disengage every time and never fully disengages. I noticed my car had a recall for this problem in the past, so before doing the work, I called a dealer for Chrysler and was informed that the recall had already been performed. So I took it upon myself at my own expense to have the clutch replaced. It worked fine for a few months, but it started doing the same thing again.

3 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/06/2020

The car has been overheating at idle. When driving, it maintains the correct temperature and returns to it even if it has gone up. Idling at a drive thru is enough to cause a full overheat with smoke. When the car is turned off, a loud bubbling can be heard. The entire fan assembly and harness was just replaced. Problem has been ongoing. Originally, fan would not turn off about 2 years ago. Even when car was off. Spent many months having to remove the fuse because the ran would run the engine dry of power. This would happen even after short drives when the car was in park and off.

12 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Takata recall- the car will at random times not change out of first gear. I can pull over sometimes and restart it multiple time and it would work. My windshield wipers also randomly come on now. And the thermometer sometimes will be blank and sometimes will say -12 when it is 90 degrees, and sometimes it is accurate. And sometimes it will light up saying I am in all gears, park, neutral, drive, reverse. It is very dangerous if I am on the interstate, or going up a hill and this happens I can't go over 35 miles per hour without taking a chance of blowing my engine.

13 Power Train problem of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

My vehicle shuts off randomly while driving 2 mph and while on the highway going 65 mph. Very scary, do not feel safe in my own car. Fear for the safety of my family.

14 Power Train problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Shift lever gear control snapped backing out stuck in street would not shift into drive vehicle in motion.

15 Power Train problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/14/2016

Vehicle accelerated on its own, up to 4,000rpm with my foot off the gas pedal. When I stomped on the brakes car would not slow down, engine continued to run at 4,000rpm. To save my life and others shifted car into neutral, pulled over and turned off ignition. After a minute or two restarted the car and same symptom were present, engine reviving to 4,000rpm, foot off the gas pedal, on the brake pedal as a precaution. Note that when this first happened the car was not in cruise control mode, simply driving around town running errands. This situation is scary because I do not know when, how, if it is going to happen again, totally unprovoked and non-sensical as to why it is happening, what triggers the problem. This has now occurred twice recently and because of this nightmare scenario I am hesitant, very very hesitant to drive the car. It is a danger to my, my wife's life and other people on the road we may accidentally plow into if the car decides to go into runaway mode of its own volition. Your consideration of a response would be greatly appreciated.

16 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/10/2016

Loses power then surges while driving. Like it is going to die then it suddenly surges and drives ok. It doesn't do it often, but it is scary when it does. Also, when it does this, my check engine light will come on? someone told me this could be related to the clutch. How can that be a clutch issue? can someone please tell me where to start looking for the problem? is being going for month's now. . .

17 Power Train problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

Engine starts and runs, but as soon as I put it into any gear but park, the car immediately dies. It will restart, but again dies when placed in a gear. The check engine light came on so I had my mechanic look at it. He checked for codes and this is the code that came up (p0601). It has 83500 miles. He says it need a new computer. This initially started backing into traffic, the car just quit. I started it back up and went to put it in drive and it again quit. This happens over and over, until someone pushed me out of the street. Car is now parked until it is repaired.

19 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

When driving on the dash board where it shows your mph below. All the lights will flash on engine, battery, oil, air bag, seatbelt, gas. All will flash on instant deceleration instant slow down. The dials will go up and down wild. Over 5 years ago this happened the dealer would only replace when the dash board stopped working completely. Finally it stopped working I had it replaced under extended warranty. 3 moths ago it started happening again. Flashing lights, all dials going up, down, and around. Yesterday I had severe deceleration on the freeway. Extremely scary and unsafe. I pulled all the way over and drove in the slow lane. Looking/reading on here there are 4 other people from all over the united states with the same complaints. I wrote a complaint on here over 4 years ago. There is something seriously wrong with this vehicle. It needs to be looked into from a outside party. There needs to be a recall before someone is driving on the freeway and the car completely stops. There needs to be a remedy at Chrysler expense.

20 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

It accelerates suddenly, most often when braking from a high speed (like in rush hour), but one time it accelerated and I hit the car in front of me. No damage (I guess because the speeds were low). Now I havbe to drive with my hand on the shifter so I can slip it into neutral if it accelerates suddenly. It almost always happens on the freeway, even if I'm parked in rush hour. It almost always happens when braking from a high speed (rush hour again).

21 Power Train problem of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/27/2015

After starting and running normally for about 20 minutes, the vehicle will begin to exhibit electrical issues. The gauges will drop to zero and then slowly return, the warning lights will flash, and the warning chime will sound repeatedly. It seems like when this happens the engine goes through a start cycle. Most of the time, this problem is otherwise asymptomatic, but occasionally it results in sudden power loss to the engine. It does not seem to matter if the vehicle is moving or not; it happens if the vehicle is stopped, moving slowly, moving quickly, etc. The engine has lost power more than once at a critical moment (turning left, clearing an intersection) and multiple times in moving traffic.

22 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

24 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 05/09/2015

Was driving vehicle going 55 mph and dashboard faults out with incoherent readings and transaxle shifts self into neutral. I shift gear selector into neutral and back into drive. Dashboard readings go back to normal and transaxle goes back into drive. 15 seconds later battery light comes on. Continue driving to find a place to park. After about 10 seconds engine stalls out. Shift gear selector into neutral and try to restart vehicle but it won't start. Coast to a stop and open hood. Notice an odd smell. Open hood and alternator is on fire. 26 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

I was driving on the freeway when the engine light came on (which it never had before), and within less than a minute the car ceased up, lost power and died. I was able to make it to the side of the freeway as it started puttering before ceasing completely. This incident has happened at least four more times since original date. I had the motor tested at the auto body shop and the said the cam sensor needs checked but the engine is burning my oil up and since this happened and has had to have oil put in 3 times since then in order to make it run when it stops. Just last month I spent over 500. 00 replacing the radiator and power steering lines which I was informed was part of a recall on this vehicle but was not covered since it didn't apply to my VIN #. I am scared because I have children I drive with and because I cannot afford to keep repairing this vehicle, which is my only means of transportation. The vehicle was paid for in cash in full and has no recourse from the dealer or so I was told.

27 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Engine lights come on randomly. Idle speeds inconsistent. Windshield cracked straight across we had no idea what happened until we read an article about Chrysler’s defective totally integrated power modules problems titled “Chrysler tipms causing power problems.

28 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/12/2014

Without warning, the engine turns off and all power is lost. The ignition switch does not move. Once the care is stopped, you have to turn the key to the off position and then turn it back on. When put on the dealer's computer, the computer only says "there was a sudden loss of power. " dealer suggests putting in a new ignition but does not guarantee this will fix the problem. The car can no longer be trusted on the highway or interstate. I can only drive it in town at slow speeds so I won't cause a crash if it suddenly dies on me.

29 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

If my ignition switch is too far forward my car will lose power and what to stop I figured out if when I turn the car on and move the switch back the car will not do that but if I forget and leave it forward it will do this again all my lights come on and I lose power. I believe it should be part of this recall.

30 Power Train problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

This is not the first incident. While driving the vechile will suddenly stop in the middle of the street. The temperature gage goes up and the car shuts off. Cause me and my family body to jerk back and forth. The car is stopped in the middle of the street. When the car shuts off there is no warning, therefore other vechiles almost crashes into the back of the Pt Cruiser. My children and I feels in safe.

Same as NHTSA action # pe07027 & recall # 07v291000.

32 Power Train problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

In July 2014 noticed back window on passenger was loose, window fell out while driving 11 2014. . . Had times when car was acting like it wasn't getting gas while driving and check eng. Light came on but would go out after it quit. Finally made it to an auto repair to have it scanned and part replaced after 9 mos. Setting. Ran good for one week then started acting up again doing the same thing. In August of 2015 I was approaching my home going down a big hill on my rd. Where the speed limit was 45 mph with a semi right behind me. The cars speed was 45 thenwent down to 20 in a matter of seconds fast enough for the tires to squeal. I had my 2 yr. Old grandson in the back seat when this happened. I knew I couldn't make it in my driveway so I immediately turned on my 4ways and pulled in my neighbors house across the street so I didn't get ran over by the semi truck. Also when I had the car repaired in June of 1915 the steering in the car was real stiff and still is only when turning but has power steering fluid. Bought my own scanner and it says I now need to replace a trans. Control unit part # p0700 along with the part that was just replaced. I'm at wits end, would like to know if there are any recalls on any of these problems . Please help me because I really need my car and feel right now it is a death trap and don't know where else to turn.

34 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

While highway driving, seat belt light comes on, then instrument panel lights go crazy and vehicle then shuts down - have to put in neutral to restart engine again. I see there are numerous complaints on the same issue. Dangerous situation and Chrysler needs to address the issue. Too expensive to play hit or miss with a dealership. I am frustrated and worried for safety when driving. Happens on highway and city driving.
