Upon inspection during a repair for another problem it was discovered that the front suspension crossmember known as the k-frame is severely corroded and will likely not pass another safety inspection. The rest of the underneath of this car is relatively rust-free and this is a low mileage vehicle for its age. If this part fails going down the highway the engine, transmission, etc. Will all drop and cause the vehicle to lose control.
After coming from the store I notice a big spot of oil on the garage floor,I wipe it up went inside the house the next day I went on some errands came back to the house and some more oil, at this point call my local parts house he came up with a bad front oil seal. So I wanted to did further into this, and found a lot of Dodge, Chrysler, owner had this same problem. I pull up and copy these problem's some p/t owners said the dealer wanted to charge them to change the engine because of the thrust bearing was to far out of specs. And pushing the front seal out and causing leak. If this would happen at high speeds, this would have a terrible terrible problem. I think Chrysler knows about this, because one Chrysler tech did say he knows the 2. 4l has a crank seal issue on a handful of the vehicle. Now our p/t only has 55,000 miles on it and this problem should not be. Most owner that I've read about has mileage no more than 110. 000. And some have had the seal replace two-three times. I think Chrysler needs to step up to plate and address this problem now we are stuck without a car. This could cost in the thousands, this problem should have address long ago. The hole under carriage is soak with oil.
Front crank case seal failed due to thrust bearing for crank shaft.

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle does not accelerate unless the contact applied continual pressure to the accelerator pedal. Once the speed reached 60 mph, the vehicle would violently jerk. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,514.
While stopped at a stop light the car just turned itself off. Restarted again by turning the ignition. Has done this several times since and even wile running on the freeway at freeway speeds. Have to manage to get off the freeway and wait a bit to restart via the ignition switch. One time a gentleman even pushed the car to help be get it off of the roadway. Have tried numerous times to repair auto by changing out the various sensors indicated by the code shown in the mileage/speedometer gauge. Numerous technicians have tried to remedy the situation. Works for awhile, then reverts to stalling again and again.
Driving down the road, all gauges go crazy, all dash warning lights come on and off, vehicle loses power and stalls, very dangerous while driving. Dealer unable to locate the problem despite numerous repairs and having the car for weeks at a time. I cannot express how unsafe this is. Seems to be a problem reported by others but the dealer acts as if they have never heard of the issue before.

Approximately 3 -4 months ago I took my car to the mechanic because the airbag light was intermittently coming on. A complete diagnostic was completed and the mechanic determined that "nothing is wrong with it. " a week later the problem continued and the battery light became coming on. About a week after that, I was traveling about 40 mph when all of the lights (battery, traction off, abs, brake, airbag, oil, etc) came on and began flashing at different intervals. My headlights and dashlights also began to flicker before the car died and would not restart. I had purchased a new battery just weeks prior, so this was not the problem. I again towed the car to the shop where I was again told that there were no problems. I've been driving the car for two weeks and trying to ignore the battery and airbag lights flashing. Last night while traveling on a major road at 50 mph, the car's lights again began flashing, the automatic transmission would not shift, and the car eventually died and would not restart. The car was towed home and after sitting for an hour, it restarted, but the lights were still flickering.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for state inspection when the contact was advised that the power train control module was programmed incorrectly and caused the on-board diagnostic system software to provide a fuel system reading. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure where they advised the dealer to perform a diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 105,000.
The car tends to stall when driving in excess of 50, it will jerk a couple of times before going forward. It has been doing this for two weeks, I bought this car about a month ago. When going online to see if others were having this problem, I found it to be a common problem with people seeking and trying all types of solutions. Even taking the car back to the dealership and still having the same stall and rough idling. It appears to be a defect in the manufacturing.
Engine light came on, it acted like it was misfiring. Car shut off at around 60mph. Drifted off road and restarted and went a mile or so and it shut off again we kept doing that until we got home. The next day we took it to our mechanic it ran fine on the way there, around 15 miles. He put it on his computer, it read bad injectors so he replaced them. Then he took it for a ride and it acted like it was misfiring again he put it back on his computer and it read bad coil so he replaced the coil pack, plugs and plug wires. It ran fine for about 4 months . Until now 10/30/2012. . Took back to mechanic, he replaced O2 sensors. Ran for 2wks. Same thing again! once again took back to mechanic . He put it on his computer once again and it read fine. He said we should take it to our Chrysler center. Although we couldn't ask for a better running car (when it is running right) ,this car is very dangerous to be on the road shutting off in traffic. I would hate to have to replace it. Please fine answer to problem.

2009 Pt Cruiser with 53,000 miles was informed by dealer that hydraulic clutch assembly is not releasing causing hard shifting.
Front windshield wiper stop working, replaced motor, further research found computer is going out. Only has 81,000 on car. Ordered new computer found out we were 926 on list, that was 3 months ago.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that the gear shift selector remained stuck in park and she was unable to shift into any other gear. The dealer informed the contact that there was liquid in the transmission shifter. This liquid allowed the shifter cable to slip off and caused the failure. The dealer repaired the shifter cable, but the failure recurred a second time. The manufacturer was aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 46,587.
My Pt Cruiser has had to have all of the front end replaced, car started acting up at 50,000 miles and I now how almost 81,000 and I have replaced everything in the front end except the cv joints, which I hope does not need after I send this. I just had to have the rack and pinion done. When speaking with Chrysler directly they state that the Pt Cruiser has had a lot of recalls due to front end, but I am told that my VIN number does not fall in the mix. I am the only owner of my Pt Cruiser. I have replaced parts on my car starting back in 2010 early 2011.
Dealer looked at the oil leak and the tech informed me the front crankshaft seal was leaking and that there was a lot of play with the crank. Seems this is a common issue with the 2. 4 liter motor that Chrysler has ignored to report a recall. There is numerous complaints about this problem on the internet. Chrysler has known it has an engine flaw and refuses to correct their mistake. I understand replacing the seal won't fix the problem because of the play with the crank shaft, the seal will start leaking again. An owner with a Pt Cruiser under warranty reported that Chrysler replaced the seal several times without fixing the problem. If the crank has to much play, it's possible that the crank has eaten into the block. The short block may need to be replaced as well. Not cheap by any means. I contacted Chrysler and they stated that because of the mileage they would not offer any financial assistance. This car has been taken care of and looks brand new. The engine should go another 100,000 miles. This is a lemon engine!.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving approximately 60 mph the engine stalled and restarted. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer seven times but the technicians were unable to detect a trouble code during the diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified and they stated the failure was related to the power train wiring harness. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 63,278.
Engine started to leak oil. Took to mechanic and they tried three times to fix leak and could not. Crank is pushing against seal. Told us that we need a new engine. Taking to dealer to see if we can resolve.
The clutch started to make it hard to shift the transmission. This is arizona so it starts to warm up to about 100 degrees around this time (end of April). This then occurred again in 2011 and 2012 from April to the end of October (when it starts to cool off below 100 degrees). Every year it has become progressively worse and today it is almost impossible to shift. There should be a recall since this an ongoing issue with all warm weather located pt's.
I saw a story on abc news concerning deceleration on BMW vehicles and I had a similar experience in a Chrysler Pt Cruiser. I was traveling at interstate speed and experienced a sudden deceleration of my vehicle. If someone was behind me I would have been hit. I had the vehicle towed to a Chrysler dealership and was told it was a sensor in the transmission.

My daughter was on her way to nursing school when her 2008 Pt Cruiser accelerated on its own, with her foot off the gas pedal, to approximately 85 mph she had to use both feet on the brakes to stop it. I arrived about 15 minutes later, started the car, the accelerator was still stuck in the wide open position. Chrysler towed the auto to olathe Chrysler, they said no codes were stored and said nothing was wrong with the automobile. After a extended conversation, the service manager agreed to replace the accelerator cable and the throttle body. But stated he did not think they were the problem but had no other ideas. When I asked if it was safe for my daughter to drive, he said I should drive it for a while in case it happened again. My response was is it safe for me to drive he said be careful. I also called Chrysler but got the same response, without codes stored it is very hard to fix. They were very non-committal when asked will the car be safe to drive after the cable and throttle body are replaced?.
The transmission is a stick shift and when the air conditioner is turned on, the transmission becomes very hard to shift , almost impossible. This also occurs when driving and having to shift in very hot weather.
During routine oil change the mechanic found that the threads welded into the oil pan had come loose. Car needed a new oil pan. I was told that this is a "fairly common problem" because the pan is aluminum and the threaded piece is steel and since the two metals have different expansion and contraction temperatures that over time the weld is broken and the thread "breaks loose" from the pan. Seems to me this should be a recall as it is a poor design.
The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the clutch was engaged and the transmission would not shift into any gear. The engine was turned off and then restarted in order for the vehicle to resume normally. The failure occurred when the temperatures exceeded 90 degrees. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the clutch would need to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to an independent auto shop for a second opinion. The technician replaced the slave cylinder and master clutch. The failure recurred and the contact replaced both parts himself. Most recent, the failure occurred for the third time and the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.
As with the other identical complaints, regarding manual transmission shifting and, when the temperature is above 80 degrees shifting gears becomes very difficult and at times impossible. The problem occurred years ago and has always been there. It's as if the bushings in the shift mechanism expand when heated and the shifter sticks in its current gear; with great force you can knock it out and with great force you can re-engage. The next morning at 50 degrees the shifter works properly once again. Later in the day above 80 degrees the problem re-occurs; this happens every time the temperature is above 80 degrees. The resulting hazard leaves you stuck in traffic unable to shift gears, which in turn makes you a hazard to other drivers. I have had two near miss (rear end) collisions as a result. Chrysler stopped production of the manual transmission pt two years before discontinuing the automatic pt. This is a known problem by the manufacturer and they should have issued a recall. Chrysler did not and as a result I'm sure the other affected customers did as I have done and walked away from the brand. I've purchased 4 vehicles since that time and they were certainly not a Chrysler product. The latter is costing Chrysler more than the $300 it would have cost to change the bushings to a type that is not affected by heat.
Crack in windshield down underneath the rubber the crack grew and grew. The gear shift broke, and the rear passenger tire went flat.

The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and the transmission was replaced. The failure recurred approximately seven years later. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and the contact was advised to replace the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Hose came loose from transmission causing vehicle to cut off several times.
Speedometer is in a cavern & when going toward the sun it is almost impossible to the speed.
