I've had my Pt Cruiser for atleast 3 years now. Today as I was driving all the lights started going on and off on the dash board and was acting as if it were going to stall out. However , every time I hit the gas the mph gauge would go up. However my gauges on my dash board had stopped working until I'd hit the gas petal again. It did this for at least a few minutes I was on a busy road when it happened and was not able to pull off the road. I've been hearing a lot of rumors going on about Pt Cruisers losing power and locking up on people and bad things happening I think Chrysler needs to get on the ball and fix these issues with their vehicles since we are only the ones that buy them under faith of safety. I had this happen one other time when I first got it but I didn't think nothing of it. The issue seems to be happening more and more often. It's not even at 100,000 miles yet and I am having this many issues. This Pt Cruiser needs to be recalled! me or my children best not get hurt it this thing due to Chrysler's neglect on this issue. I've seen many people complain about this issue and nothing being done. Who has to die before it's resolved?!? I would've had pictures but the lights turned off and it went back to normal before I was able to take a snap shot or video of it. Because if I lose power again and it malfunctions and me or my kids get hurt when Chrysler has been notified and they don't do anything there will be a law suit. If I had known this issue would occur I would have never bought it, infact I'm still paying on it for another 2 yrs.

On 6/15 it was necessary for me to take this vehicle on the road. I should have known better since it's issues have been increasing in severity with each drive. I can no longer drive on the highway and local driving which necessitates stopping at traffic lights and stop signs is challenging to say the least. Becoming increasing difficult to start; engine bucks when attempting to accelerate from a stop and continues to do so while driving. It continues to stall without warning and my mechanic cannot even get my dashboard to function; none of my gauges are operational and of course I have no interior lighting at all. I have read so many similar complaints and find it difficult to understand why Chrysler has not been forced to address the issues with these vehicles beyond offering a kit for purchase which will not guarantee acceptable results. I urge everyone filing and/or reading these complaints to take some action. Contact the dot, speak with a lawyer, be a voice and continue to be a voice until someone, somewhere takes action on our behalf. I'm not able to trade this car; who would want it; still paying down my loan on it and pray every time I leave the house that I will be able to return home safely. What a disgrace this is.

While driving the vehicle at any time, on a city street or highway, all of the lights on the cluster would light up, all gauges would fluncuatate and the car would stall and shut off. I have taken vehicle to independent mechanics and a certified Chrysler service center and the problem is not able to be resolved. This issue causes concern and is effecting my transportation for employment and creating fear of driving the vehicle on highways.

Purchased vehicle a couple of years ago with about 32,000 miles, everything has been great until a couple of weeks ago. At about 41,000 vehicle has started stalling when moving, horn will not quit, starting issues and dash lights flash on and off. This is a very dangerous issue and I have read most of the prior 60 complaints dating back to 2010 and nothing has been done by Chrysler . I have heard on the national news that there is finally a recall with this vehicle but my VIN # is not included for some reason.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power and multiple warning lights on the instrument cluster illuminated. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. In addition, the vehicle previously stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on multiple occasions, but it was unable to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact was unsure if the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Driving vehicle, all dashboard lights blink on and off, cars stalls, brakes and steering lock up. This has happened at least 15 times over the last few months, and is very dangerous. Also, sometimes the engine fan won't shut off when car is turned off, and it drains the car battery. This has happened at least 10 times. That part is getting expensive and very irritating, but the stalling out and completely dying, is very dangerous, because you can't always get off the road.
I bought this Pt Cruiser from a local dealer, the first time it turned off I was at a stop sign and thought it just stalled from not being warmed up. About a week later I was driving down a local road doing 50 miles per hour when I bumped the key in the ignition with my knee. The car turned off. Luckily it was a straight road with no traffic and I was able to guide the car to a stop then restart it. This has happened a few times more, all with bumping my knee against the ignition key. It instantly turns the car off. With the gm recall in the news I wasn't paying attention since I don't have a gm car but decided to look when I heard it involved the ignition turning the car off. I saw that it is similar yet nothing being done about my ignition so I am filing this complaint. I have notified Chrysler of this problem I am experiencing. I know that many parts are used across brands and these parts may be the same. I am worried I may bump my knee on a windy road with my children in the car and not be able to recover stability and steering if it turns off. Please check into this immediately!!.
While stopped at a stop light the car just turned itself off. Restarted again by turning the ignition. Has done this several times since and even wile running on the freeway at freeway speeds. Have to manage to get off the freeway and wait a bit to restart via the ignition switch. One time a gentleman even pushed the car to help be get it off of the roadway. Have tried numerous times to repair auto by changing out the various sensors indicated by the code shown in the mileage/speedometer gauge. Numerous technicians have tried to remedy the situation. Works for awhile, then reverts to stalling again and again.
Driving down the road, all gauges go crazy, all dash warning lights come on and off, vehicle loses power and stalls, very dangerous while driving. Dealer unable to locate the problem despite numerous repairs and having the car for weeks at a time. I cannot express how unsafe this is. Seems to be a problem reported by others but the dealer acts as if they have never heard of the issue before.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several minutes. The contact also stated that the windshield wipers were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing, but the cause of the failure was not determined. The failure was reported to the manufacturer. The failure and current mileage was 69,205. Kmj.
Since November 2012, my 2006 Pt Cruiser's dashboard has occasionally gone crazy with all gauges (speed, gas, etc) going crazy and bouncing back and forth, all lights (engine, airbag, brake, etc) lighting up at the same time. At that time, it did not affect the engine. On March 15, 2013, the car died suddenly while pulling out into an intersection after being stopped at a red light. The gauges and lights had previously been going crazy. The car restarted without a problem. I drove the car to the Chrysler dealership where it was purchased immediately. The mechanic could not recreate the issue and did a computer update. After picking the car up from the dealership on March 22, 2013, again the gauges and lights starting going off and the car started to stall and the engine sputtered. I was in stop and go traffic. When stopped, the car would not immediately accelerate and it threatened to quit numerous times. I had to put my warning lights on to avoid being hit by the truck behind me. I immediately drove the car home and took it back to the dealership the following week. After another week, the mechanic was finally able to recreate the problem with the lights and gauges but did not experience the stalling or intermittent lack of acceleration. The car is still at the dealership and he is unable to determine the cause of the problem. He suggests replacing the dashboard cluster but is not sure if this will fix the problem. After reading other customer complaints that replacing the dashboard cluster did not remedy the same problem in other Pt Cruisers, I am not confident that this is the solution to the problem. I would appreciate Chrysler responding to this issue that many 2006 Pt Cruiser owners are experiencing. The problem seems too prevalent to ignore and having a car die suddenly in the middle of traffic is a dangerous thing.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser convertible. The contact stated the vehicle was idle. However, there were times when she approached a stop sign when the vehicle began to surge and stall without warning. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was taken to both an authorized dealer and an independent mechanic a total of four times. The technician informed the contact that the engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the engine no longer being produced by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
My Pt Cruiser from time to time on a regular basis will suddenly stall. All gauges on instrument panel will light up and fall of at which call will stall. This action occurs either while idling and or at highway speeds while driving. The action sometimes will shut car down then after a few seconds start back up. Please find a solution. I've been investigating this situation and know one seems to care or no what the problem is. This has been occurring since 2006. I would like to no what has been done so I can get this dangerous problem fixed.

The vehicle was then taken to an independently mechanic where the contact was informed that there was a defective relay in the engine. The mechanic replaced the relay switches. The failure did not recur. The failure mileage was 65,000.
Rough idle at stopped intersections, lunges and stalls. Stalls a approximately 15-25 mph while making left or right turns making it very difficult to turn while placing the vehicle in neutral and starting the engine again. The fog lights turn on by itself after the vehicle is parked and the ignition is turned off draining the battery. Had to disconnect the fuse in order to prevent this from happening again. To this date non-functional fog lights. The vehicle has several electrical problems from instrument cluster not functioning while driving to radio and climate control not working until you stop the vehicle and turn it off. Then start the vehicle again then it works properly for another few days. This is a reoccurring problem. Wheel bearing has been an issue too and currently needs to be replaced.

I have a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser that is stalling out at random times. It has stalled out getting onto freeway, at full speed on the freeway in front of trucks. It stalls out in intersections. I've had it in the shop a number of times and even purchased an extended warranty. I've been told Chrysler has rules about checking to see if there are problems w/ other cars like mine. I've found quite a bit of information on the internet regarding the same problem. I'm not getting anywhere. I need help. I've paid thousands of dollars for work on the car at the dealership and warranty to drive a car that is still not safe. I can't afford to buy a new one and nobody will help me. This has been going on for approximately 2 years. I am estimating mileage when this started to be approximately 25,000 miles on the car. It was still under factory warranty. Now I have 46907 miles on the car and the problem still exists. It seems to be worse when it is hot outside. The dealerships responses in louisiana, alabama, and mississippi have all been the same. We can't find the problem. We don't have any record of any pts having the same problem. Internet searches show this is not an isolated problem. Today I was told by the dealership in flowood, ms that the car isn't going to be made after Friday; making the parts to try to fix this problem harder moving forward. I or someone around me in my car or another car are going to be killed.
2002 Pt Cruiser, was serviced about 3-4 mos prior, running fine, all of a sudden smoke was coming out of the inside of the car vents, I pulled over when I exit the car, I saw smoke and heard something ignite in the hood. There was no warning of anything was wrong with the car, there were no warning lights, there was no stalling of the car, nothing.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving at speeds of 50 mph or more, the vehicle would stall. The contact also stated that the vehicle would unintentionally switch gears from drive to reverse without driver intent. The vehicle switched gears without warning while driving in reverse and the vehicle crashed into a mailbox. There was moderate rear end damage to the vehicle. The failure would occur intermittently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and there were no repairs performed on the vehicle. There contact did not report any injuries. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage vehicle was 40,000. Updated 7/16/10 updated 07/22/jb.
The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving 17 mph the vehicle would stall when coming to a stop. He stated that it would rough idle as if it was going to cut-off. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The current mileage was 21,400 and the failure mileage was 19,000.
I purchased a new 2005 Chrysler, Pt Cruiser. I have experienced rough idling at times. Lately, I am experiencing stalling while driving. I loose all power I can press the gas pedal to the floor and it does nothing then in a few seconds it will go. At stops it will almost go dead. I looked on the web site and saw a lot of complaints filed with my problems. I feel a recall should be done before someone is badly injured because their Pt Cruiser stalls while driving! below are the odi id numbers: 10102249, 10126616, 10138986, and 10163025. Thank you.

Consumer states 2001 Pt Cruiser acted like it was going to stall and then the yellow warning light came on. He took the vehicle to the service department and they fixed the power steering, which was part of NHTSA recall 04v268000. Consumer was told the light would still be on and the problem would still occur. To find out why this is happened consumer had to pay to have diagnostic work done. This started day before yesterday, on July 5, 2005. It did not matter what speed the vehicle was going.
I have had problems with my automatic 2004 Pt Cruiser since I have purchased the vehicle in January of 2004. The car has been in the shop for weeks at a time due to the car stalling while I am driving which is extremely dangerous since the power steering locks, and this action can potentially cause me to lose control of the car. The car is currently in the shop due to it stalling and driving rough. Every time I take the car to the Chrysler service department it seems like they find an issue but it is the wrong issue. Last time they told me the car was fine and nothing was wrong with it and the next day the car stalled while I was driving. I have rented Pt Cruiser rental cars to verify that all Pt Cruiser do not run rough and stall and the rental cars run like a dream compared to my car. If the troubles with the car do not change and the car cannot be fixed I would like out of the deal. I am very scared to drive my new car due to a potential accident.
While driving vehicle stalled. Consumer restarted vehicle ten minutes later. Then, vehicle jerked and stalled. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that engine needed to be replaced.
While driving at an undetermined speed vehicle stalled, causing the consumer to drift off the road. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection.
