Was driving vehicle going 55 mph and dashboard faults out with incoherent readings and transaxle shifts self into neutral. I shift gear selector into neutral and back into drive. Dashboard readings go back to normal and transaxle goes back into drive. 15 seconds later battery light comes on. Continue driving to find a place to park. After about 10 seconds engine stalls out. Shift gear selector into neutral and try to restart vehicle but it won't start. Coast to a stop and open hood. Notice an odd smell. Open hood and alternator is on fire. Close hood and grab personal belongings (except for phone charger) out of vehicle. Call 911 as vehicle burns up. Fire and police arrive and extinguish fire but vehicle badly destroyed by being engulfed in flames.

I drive a 2007 t cuiser and have on and off again issues with my center dashboard lights coming on and gauges going up and down. Engine almost stalls in heavy traffic. This has happened several times and the mechanics cannot find any issues with wiring, grounding, battery, alternator, switches, etc. Happens at any time. Will be fine for a short period of time and then it will start to do it again. This takes place sitting still and in heavy traffic. Chrysler better take note and figure this out or they will have a huge lawsuit like what is going on with gm. Many people with the same complaints; how is it no one is concerned? scared to drive my vehicle.

While driving gauges randomly go to zero, all warning lights come on, sometimes engine stalls for one second and then restarts, then gauges go back to normal. Happened once in a while a year ago, now happens daily. Took to dealer last year and they could not replicate problem. Have seen this issue on various internet sites including this one but with no solutions. Lots of suggestions - fuses, battery wires, battery, ignition switch - but nothing definitive. Car is very dangerous, I'm just lucky it hasn't stalled at the wrong time. Friend with a Dodge has same problem and his dealer can't fix either.
The car was in motion when passenger airbag off light on dash illuminated, and then all gauges on dash dropped to zero and reset several times in succession. This has occurred several times, often including a loss of acceleration or engine stalls (though engine has never shut completely off, often it is only revived with a press of the accelerator). As with other complaints on this site, the vehicle was taken a dealership on several occasions for diagnosis, but the issue was never replicated. It has occurred several times in the past years, the most common symptom being the passenger airbag light coming on (practically weekly), indicating my passenger has no airbag and could be jeopardy in the event of an accident. No one has ever found this issue, which as repeated even after battery, electrical system, and battery contacts have been replaced. The vehicle has undergone numerous repairs related to the electrical system but this hasn't stopped, and I don't have the money to replace this car. Please look into this, the lives of my family are at risk if the passenger airbag doesn't work!!.

The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer on six separate occasions for the identical failures. The engine control module (ecm), four fuel injecters , spark plugs, and both oxygen sensors. Were replaced. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000. The current mileage was 113,000.
The contact owns a 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. After purchasing the vehicle the brakes began squeaking. The contact was told that the brakes would be replaced before she bought the vehicle. When she arrived to pick up the vehicle she was informed the dealer that the brakes were still squeaking. The dealer stated that it would take two to three days before the brakes would stop squeaking. However, the failure continued. A few days later the contact returned to the dealer the tires were removed and orange dust was found on the brakes. The dealer cleaned the brakes, but never replaced them. Three weeks after purchasing the vehicle the contact had the air conditioning repaired because it would not blow cool air. In August 2006 the vehicle began running hot and failed while driving 58 mph. The vehicle was towed, and shortly thereafter the failure recurred and the vehicle was towed again. In September 2006 the engine was replaced. On April 19, 2007, a diagnostic test was performed on the vehicle because of steering failure. The contact was told that the steering wheel needed immediate attention because steering fluid was leaking into the bottom of the car and could cause a fire. She was informed that the engine that was installed in September 2006 failed. The contact did not provide an accurate VIN. The current mileage is 50,400, and failure mileage was 35,326. The consumer stated she went to the dealership to have the car repaired and they were rude and refused to help her. Later, the dealership asked for information to rent the consumer a car and the rental place refused to rent her a car if the vehicle was not fixed by smith Chrysler. The consumer stated the dealer sold her a car then changed the name on her paperwork, refused to give her the tags to the car unless payment was provided and told her she had the wrong VIN number for the car. The consumer stated wants her money back for the car and the dealer to take the car back. Updated 07/06/07.
: the consumer stated while driving at 40 mph on normal road conditions, the engine stalled. The engine over-heated and the warning light did not illuminate.
