When driving all lights on dash will come on, gauges will go off and on, and the engine has died in the road several times. The time it dies while driving is scariest part it has so far restarted after getting off road. Afraid when someone is following too close they will hit us or I hit them as I travel on the frwy 120 miles a day. Many people seem to have this go on. Chrysler fix this or I will have a class action lawsuit. Should fix before customers are killed! this has been ongoing problem since about 90,000 miles it has 132,000 now I have taken car to multiple mechanics and no one can find out was wrong. Engine died and restarted today on the freeway 3/2/16.

While driving the vehicle at any time, on a city street or highway, all of the lights on the cluster would light up, all gauges would fluncuatate and the car would stall and shut off. I have taken vehicle to independent mechanics and a certified Chrysler service center and the problem is not able to be resolved. This issue causes concern and is effecting my transportation for employment and creating fear of driving the vehicle on highways.

While driving all instrument gauges began flashing and going up and down. Could not accelerate. Was able to pull over and turn off ignition. Restarted and proceeded on my way with no further problems. 3 days later while driving 70 mph down a busy interstate it happened again. I jiggled the key in the ignition and everything went back to normal. I was able to replicate the issue by jiggling the ignition switch. This incident occurred on 4 separate occasions. Took vehicle to dealer and no codes were found. Had the ignition switch replaced and after 1 week have not had the problem again. The ignition switch has always been easy to move and now with a new switch it feels "normal". With the recent recalls of ignition switch issues perhaps this needs to be investigated on Chrysler models. This could cause serious injury and/or death if the engine stalls completely in traffic. Not to mention the fact of having no steering control if the engine does stall. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
While driving, the instrument warning lights start flashing off and on, the gauges drop to zero then com back up, and the engine falters sometimes and stops other times. When engine stops, power steering is lost. Car will start up again with starter.
Takata recall I bought a 2009 Pt Cruiser from imperial Chrysler in mendon, MA in August 2013. Immediately, it started to act up-this was sept 2013. During driving the dash lights would suddenly go on, the gauges would go up & down, and then it would stall. I would pull off the road and it would start right up, however, this could occur 3-4 more times during that day, or it wouldn't happen for a couple weeks. It was very inconsistent and extremely dangerous to drive. When imperial Chrysler had it in September 2013, they did a few different things that were not working when I bought the car, unrelated to the issue described above. They stated that they weren't experiencing the issue that I was having and couldn't find anything wrong with the car. They advised that I should leave the car for a week so they could determine what was really happening. After the car seemed to be ok until the summer of 2016 when I was driving on route 128 and the dash lights started flashing, gauges up and down and the car stalled. Thankfully I was able to pull over into the breakdown lane, where I was able to re-start the car and move on. This was a very scary position to be placed in, being on a major highway with cars racing by. As a result, I have been extremely uncomfortable driving anywhere but locally. During the nearly 4 years I have owned this car, I have put on just under $16,000 miles due to these unresolved issues. I purchased the car with just over $68,000 miles on it. As you can see, I have had no luck with the Chrysler-trained experts at imperial Chrysler. I have taken it to several local mechanics who have theories on what the problem could be. However, they cannot guarantee a solution to the problem.

While stopped at a stop light the car just turned itself off. Restarted again by turning the ignition. Has done this several times since and even wile running on the freeway at freeway speeds. Have to manage to get off the freeway and wait a bit to restart via the ignition switch. One time a gentleman even pushed the car to help be get it off of the roadway. Have tried numerous times to repair auto by changing out the various sensors indicated by the code shown in the mileage/speedometer gauge. Numerous technicians have tried to remedy the situation. Works for awhile, then reverts to stalling again and again.

Since November 2012, my 2006 Pt Cruiser's dashboard has occasionally gone crazy with all gauges (speed, gas, etc) going crazy and bouncing back and forth, all lights (engine, airbag, brake, etc) lighting up at the same time. At that time, it did not affect the engine. On March 15, 2013, the car died suddenly while pulling out into an intersection after being stopped at a red light. The gauges and lights had previously been going crazy. The car restarted without a problem. I drove the car to the Chrysler dealership where it was purchased immediately. The mechanic could not recreate the issue and did a computer update. After picking the car up from the dealership on March 22, 2013, again the gauges and lights starting going off and the car started to stall and the engine sputtered. I was in stop and go traffic. When stopped, the car would not immediately accelerate and it threatened to quit numerous times. I had to put my warning lights on to avoid being hit by the truck behind me. I immediately drove the car home and took it back to the dealership the following week. After another week, the mechanic was finally able to recreate the problem with the lights and gauges but did not experience the stalling or intermittent lack of acceleration. The car is still at the dealership and he is unable to determine the cause of the problem. He suggests replacing the dashboard cluster but is not sure if this will fix the problem. After reading other customer complaints that replacing the dashboard cluster did not remedy the same problem in other Pt Cruisers, I am not confident that this is the solution to the problem. I would appreciate Chrysler responding to this issue that many 2006 Pt Cruiser owners are experiencing. The problem seems too prevalent to ignore and having a car die suddenly in the middle of traffic is a dangerous thing.
All warning lights come on, gauges on speedometer & tach spin around, fyi: coil had been replaced one year prior. ( vehicle then shuts off. ) the dealer performed complete inspection of ignition and fuel injection system. No problems found. Removed cyclinder again to inspect for any internal failure & internal components are ok. Replaced injector as safety measure. Reassembled, drove and no further engine lite found. I have documentation up until a new transmission was installed on 9/29/14. This is an ongoing prob with exact same concerns and codes either don't showup at the dealer or are not accurate. As of today my car is doing the same things and just spent $2500 for new transmission that I feel it never needed in the first place. I feel the codes are not reading properly. Help !!! have no more money to put into car; it has only 29,000 miles right now. Afraid I'll get rear-ended so only use on side streets even though I have freeways accessible to me. Please this car is our only transportation; either needs to be recalled or fixed and no charge and reimburse me for $$$ spent. Thank you for your help I desperately need.
The indicator lights on the dashboard begin flashing on and off and the gauge needles move back and forth. After that the car stalls. It was taken to the Chrysler dealer in carlsbad, California in January 2012. No codes came up and I was told I needed a new battery. This did not fix the problem. This problem has re-occurred on numerous times to date. On one occurrence the car stalled in an intersection. The most recent repairs occurred on 6/30/2014 (I was told the ignition coil and a spark plug wire needed to be replaced) the problem re-occurred on 7/18/2014.
