Structure Problems of Chrysler Pt Cruiser

I was driving down the highway and my rear right window flew off while going 55 mph. This is extremely unsafe! I had no idea the window was only glued on! I am curious if there are other people who have had this issue and what can be done.

I went in to the local Chrysler dealership on Saturday, January 21, 2012 for a routine oil change. I was told that I needed to replace an engine mount. I had to replace on in September of 2010 and I was quite shocked that I was faced with this repaid again. It was a different mount this time. So I asked the customer service representative why does this keep happening. I am 57 years old and in 40 years of driving I have never even heard about this happening to any one. I was told that there is somewhat of a design flaw in the Pt Cruiser and that this particular dealer performs 20 to 30 like repairs a week. . This means that there is a design flaw in this vehicle. I checked on line and sure enough, it appears that there hundreds of complaints about Pt Cruiser engine mounts. What can be done? it is not fair that Chrysler can sell a product like this - knowing that there are issues - and keep raking in money for the repairs. Shouldn't they be held to some kind of standard? this is a safety matter, for sure. It is a moral one as well.

2006 Pt Cruiser. Defective motor mounts. I have been told I need to replace the motor mounts and the cv joints because the bad mounts caused the engine to shift and eat up the cv joints. I did online reviews of various cruiser forum and found hundreds of complaints about the cruiser's motor mounts. Do not delay in investigating this and calling for a recall. People are refusing to by other Chrysler products because of these problems. . . And discontinuing the model does not give them the right to ignore the need for recalls for current owners.

Front cradle found to be rotten on a car with low mileage.

Dashboard on my Pt Cruiser -2002 just started cracking first a the windshield like a hair line crack - then defrost vent involved - now it has a hole in the vent - and now just this weekend another hairline crack starting at the air vent and going now to the console. What is happening to my dash? this could be a safety hazard with the air bag just down below. No wreck involved.

Wheels peel and corrode. Makes tires flat constantly. Tires will not keep air. Makes tires wear out often and they have to be replace.

My 2001 Pt Cruiser's dash has failed, there is a crack from the windshield almost all through to the front. I've read it can cause problems when it finishes breaking, which from appearances it will soon do.

The dashboard of my Pt Cruiser is suffering from multiple cracks that seem to continually grow and increase in numbers. The cracks have sharp edges and seem to present the potential of an eventual dashboard failure of this padded surface. The crack also present sharp edges. The protective aspect of this dashboard in the event of a crash is suspect.

Riding in car and smelled something bad (like hot brakes or burning rubber or plastic). Grandson cried out from his car seat that something burned him. Stopped car immediately and removed grandson, rear passenger side inside of door was extremely hot and had begun to pucker up (like melted plastic). Electric window now does not work. Took it to dealership 12-28-07 and they say because we do not have an extended warranty, we must pay in full, estimate is >500. 00. Inside of door panel burned completely. Also should the car not have blown a fuse or something to keep this fire from spreading and continuing but no fuses blew. We are thankful that we are safe but we are very unhappy with Pt Cruisers at this time. Also, I doubt the dealership will do anything about the horrible burn smell.

Dashboard on Pt Cruiser 2001 began cracking recently. Cracking progressing daily and dashboard is about to cave in.

The dashboard of my 2006 Pt Cruiser is factory painted metallic silver, and I was constantly holding up my hand and covering the dash with cloth etc. . . To prevent it from blinding me while driving on sunny days. On a Tuesday evening in August 2007 while entering onto a highway the evening sun glared off the right panel of the dash so brightly it blinded me and caused me to begin to have an immediate seizure type responce. My eyes were flashing with lights, then my right arm was tingling and went numb, the right side of my face went numb, my right temple began to throb horribly, and this lasted for one hour. I went to the dealership where I bought it and the service department didn't know what to do so I had to hand sand my entire dashboard with sandpaper and emory boards! it looks rediculous and it is insane that I must drive my new car this way. The lasting consequence has been a retinal burn that stays in the center of my vision at all times now. I am a professional artist and writer, so now and perhaps the rest of my life---I must look through this white swirl in the center of my eye. The same seizure happened a month ago while I was working in my computer as I must do daily for my job. This problem seems to be permenant and I want chysler to pay. I can hardly open my eyes outside now, and I live in a constant fear of these seizures hitting me any where and any time now.

The dashboard on my 2001 Pt Cruiser started cracking about 9 months ago, and is gradually cracking and crumbling right in front of my eyes. It makes me sick every time I get my car now. I was so proud to buy the Pt Cruiser in 2001. Now it's a shame and embarrassment to me.

The dashboard of my 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser is cracking in many places through the middle section. I'm afraid it may collapse as others have. The cracks also run through the top air vent. I've researched the web and found many other cases of this happening which some have caused accidents. The contact owns a 2002 chyrsler Pt Cruiser. The vehicle's entire dashboard burst into several pieces. The temperature was approximately 80 degrees. The manufacturer will not repair the dashboard due to the state's climate. The engine size is not available. The current mileage is 97,000 and failure mileage was 86,000.

Driving at 65 mph on an interstate highway when a rear quarter window fell out, blowing backwards and striking the following car. The window in question was only glued to its framework, no screws or clips of any sort. A recall to secure the window permanently, using something besides glue, is the only way to correct the failure.

In 2001 bought a brand new 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. In the last 2 years the dashboard has started collapsing on itself. This has exposed the wiring harness in the dash to direct sunlight and I am afraid will melt the wiring. I have done nothing to cause this problem. Chrysler should replace this.

The 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser has metallic-silver dash inserts around the instrument cluster and covering the passenger air bag compartment. When the sun is high in the sky the glare from the metallic-silver instrument panel is blinding. The glare is so bright it leaves spots in your eyes. The molded curves above the instruments seem to concentrate the sunã‚??s energy. My wife is shorter and is able to adjust the top of the steering wheel to block the reflection. I am unable to do this and still handle the steering wheel comfortably. I placed electrical tape on the panel just above the center instrument to block the glare.

I have a problem with the rear bumper of my car and also the door pillars. First off, all of the older pts that I have seen have problems with both of these items. The bumper has some sort of discoloration problem on the edges of the bumper. It looks like there may have been some tape (from the factory?) that has discolored the bumpers on these vehicles. Also, the door pillar that are factory black get this terrible staining. It looks as if they are water spotted, but it is just a defect in the paint on the pillars. I see it on every cruiser I see. I has to buy chrome covers to make my car look presentable. I can't believe that there has not been a recall to replace these eyesores (and not on my dime, like I did).

Consumer has problems viewing the dashboard gauges on 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser due to lack of bright lighting. The design of the instrument panel block out daylight which results in the driver straining to see the reading of the speedometer, tachometer, etc.

Sun light reflects off the glossy, silver painted airbag cover on the dashboard blinding the driver.

Dashboard began crumbling about 3-4 years after I bought the car (new) and is now in terrible shape and may be near collapsing. I have not checked into replacement yet. I have seen many complaints regarding this same issue with other Pt Cruiser owners and other Chrysler-made cars.

The part of the bumpers nearest to the vehicle's body is surrounded by a one inch white line. The bumpers are a charcoal gray color. The bumpers were replaced under warranty, but the failure has recurred. Her warranty has expired and now she would have to pay for this repair herself. She spoke with a mechanic at the dealer who stated that they are aware of the failure, but no recalls have been issued. The current mileage is 41,000 and failure mileage was 20,965.
