While driving heard a loud crack and the dash on the car cracked about 16 inches, so far have only put duct tape on it to hopefully keep the crack from going any further. It has cracked from the left side, just under the window to almost the center vent on the dash.

Cars plastic dashboard suddenly cracked in the center and pieces fell into the center vent. Dashboard now has sharp edges from the cracks, which could cause injury in the event of collision. Do to the nature of the damage I dont believe the dashboard complies with following: â§571. 201 standard no. 201; occupant protection in interior impact.

2002 Pt Cruiser 55,000 miles dash cracked in the middle.

The dashboard has been cracking from the center defrost vent towards the drivers side area. The crack is approximately 8 inches in length. The crack continues to grow due to the fact that when the vehicle is being driven, road vibrations cause the cracks to open and widen. I am concerned because the cracks could cause the dash to cave in which could have an effect on the air bag or wiring, which could be a safety issue. I contacted Chrysler's assistance hotline and was told that nothing could be done since there was no recall on the vehicle and the vehicle was out of warranty.

I have a 2002 pt dash started cracking at center vent cracked 2 ways now is a large crack an very sharp edges on peices no wrecks , has been well taken care of . The car has very low miles on it . This upsets me on the problem with it . I need it fixed.

Dashboard in 2002 Pt Cruiser has cracked down the middle and has began to separate into pieces. This includes the center defrost vent. Per the June 18, 2007 miami herald you had 9 complaints from owners of 2002 models and 12 from 2001 owners. This was over 2 years ago. An internet search shows many more complaints that probably haven't been filed with the NHTSA. Chrysler denies responsibility. Various manufacturers ( e. G. Coverking) have already started making dash covers for the Pt Cruiser specifically to cover cracked dashes; but I cannot use one as these covers do not include the center defrost vent which has broken into pieces and fallen into the vent. The only solution is to replace the entire dash cover. It has happened to enough cars surely to initiate a defect investigation. Chrysler should be made to replace these defective dashes!.

The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that the dashboard was completely cracked and houses the passenger side air bag. The manufacturer and dealer have not been notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were less than 100,000.

Dashboard cracked in half in 2001 Pt Cruiser. The dashboard is no longer stable near the windshield and pieces are starting to break off from the cracked area. If this continues it could potentially expose wiring and electrical connections. This could also pose additional dangers in the event of a collision with or without airbag deployment.

2002 p t cruiser by Chrysler the dash board in my car started cracking. I am holding it together with tape. I am fearful of the plastic caving in and causing me to have an accident. When I reported this to Chrysler corp. , using their 800 number they were rude and said they would not help. I have found on the internet I am not the only one with this problem. Dash crack down the middle of the dash. Entire dash will have to be replaced.

My 2001 Pt Cruiser have 3 huge cracks on the dashboard. Have always used protection against the sun and still got them. I fear that if ever have an impact the pieces of the dashboard will be dangerous debris if airbags open (if they do open and doesn't get stuck).

I have a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser and, I noticed a small crack in the dashboard, and a couple of weeks later the small crack is now bigger and almost to my a/c vents and the vent in the dashboard is cracking badly. I feel that something might fail because of this.

The dash pad "cover" on our 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser limited has cracked and broken into numerous sharp pieces. This car has been well maintained and this should not happen to a car of this age. We have other cars, older and newer that have had no issues with cracking dashboards. This is a manufacturing defect and potential safety hazard. We have become aware of this defect/safety hazard occurring on many other Chrysler Pt Cruisers.

I have a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser that I have had since it was new. It has always been garaged. A couple of months ago, I noticed the dashboard had two cracks running from each side of the center vent to the windshield. Now there is a large crack running from the center of that vent to the front of the dash. The dash in this car is just a cover, a piece of plastic. The crack is not like the cracks you used to get in a dash that was foam covered metal. These cracks are where the plastic has completely broken through. In a web search, I found where this is happening on a lot of these vehicles.

Dash board developed a crack at the center vent and as of this point the entire middle of the dash panel is cracked in two! other cracks are also developing! these started to develop three years ago.

Dashboard is cracking all over. It is very weak in the center.

2001 Pt Cruiser with 44,500 miles. Abt 3 months ago a small crack appeared in the dashboard. It grew larger and larger, and in October the vent screen piece popped out on its own. The crack finally bisected the dashboard, so I had it replaced at my own expense. This car has gotten normal usage and there appears to be no incident or reason for this to have occurred.

Dashboard cracks - 3 total. First one appeared late 2007 on the left side of the center vent. Then, shortly after another one popped up from the back of the center vent. Approximately one month later a 3rd on (the largest one) appeared from the front of the vent straight to the front edge of the dash board. Part of the center vent spokes are breaking now and when I put the armourall on the dash I have to be very careful not to put too much pressure on it as I'm wiping it on.

My 2001 Pt Cruiser has suddenly developed large cracks on the dash. I've never put any heavy things on it or used it to hold myself when cleaning the windshield and out of the blue, it's cracked. Of course it's out of warranty and the purchase price through the dealer is only $40. 00 or so more than the installation price. The part costs about $250. 00. Chrysler is gouging us. There is no way that part takes over 2 hours to replace and that's what it would be at today's mechanic's labor prices!.

Cracked dashboard. The crack has now spread across the entire dashboard, separating the dash into two pieces. The crack extends from the windshield to the center console. The current mileage is 98,000.

I just noticed the 2001 Pt Cruiser dashboard had cracks. It was garage kept and always had sun shades on. Only had 50000 miles. I hope that Chrysler stepped up and accepted responsibility for their product. They did on the trucks, so why not on the cruisers.

My 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser received a crack on the dashboard. The crack slowly grew around the vent and started to collapse. I am concerned that the pieces will fall into the wiring under the dash. Carmax (where I bought the car) and chrylser would not pay for the repair because it is out of warranty. The car is only 5 1/2 years old. For my safety, I will have to pay for the repair myself.

The dashboard is cracking on the 2001 Pt Cruiser ,and I contacted the Chrysler corporation ,and they said they were not going to help in fixing the problem. I was told to contact your organization through the local media. Now I know I am the cars second owner, but I still feel that Chrysler should fix the problem regardless!.
