2 Suspension problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

While driving, sometimes when driving, the car will jerk to the left or the right without probacation. Vechile accelerates without foot being on the pedal. One time I was at a stop light. My foot was on the brake, but the car lurched forward and the engine starting reving. I had to use both feet with extreme force to slow the car down. Finally, I just threw the car into park; once in park, the car kept reving. The pedal was not pressed. This has happened on three occasions. This makes for unsafe driving, and only due to my good driving skills did I avoid an accident. This has been occuring for the past three months.

3 Suspension problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/30/2016

Engine cradle, or front subframe, is rusted to the point I've stopped driving the car. I'm in the process of finding a replacement but Chrysler no longer makes the part! nothing has happened to this point because of my caution but the front end was starting to make popping noises when I started out from a dead stop. The problem is on the front passenger side. I understand from reading articles, many other pts have this same problem. For years, I have tried to prime and spray oil on the part to extend it's life. Time has come. . . .

4 Suspension problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/28/2016

. . On my 2002 Pt Cruiser the front suspension cross member has rotted so bad that it broke in a few places causing the lower a arm to move in such a way as to cause the steering wheel to pull out of your hands all the way to the left and or right, the car could not be driven more then 15 mph,. . And that was while holding the wheel tightly. . . . If this cross member was to break while driving 65 mph there would be a very bad crash,. . I suggest any one that has a pt cruise have it checked for the cross member rotting before a crash takes place,,,I was able to buy a new cross member and the cheapest price was $514 plus tax and shipping,. . Now comes the costs to install it. . . What is odd the cross member rotted out on the passenger side only,. . . I have some pics of it with the a arm off the cross member. .

17 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

I bought a Pt Cruiser sedan and the car lot I bought if from said it needed front shocks and it would be ready in two day. I pick up the Pt Cruiser and decided to take it to my mechanic and have it check out from top to bottom. It has over 100 mechanical issues, from shocks which were never put on. There is oil in the spark plugs and leaves a smell when the heater is on which makes us very ill. It is not safe to drive. Also, the car lot I bought it from which it was sold for around $2,000 dollars and needs over $3,000 dollars worth of work. Then I got slapped with an extra 5,000 from the loan company. This is a lemon. I am not paying for anything and him and I have went around and around about this piece of junk. They can repo it and then I am getting an attorney for selling me a car that should not be on the road. Too dangerous.

18 Suspension problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

Upon inspection during a repair for another problem it was discovered that the front suspension crossmember known as the k-frame is severely corroded and will likely not pass another safety inspection. The rest of the underneath of this car is relatively rust-free and this is a low mileage vehicle for its age. If this part fails going down the highway the engine, transmission, etc. Will all drop and cause the vehicle to lose control.

19 Suspension problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

After coming from the store I notice a big spot of oil on the garage floor,I wipe it up went inside the house the next day I went on some errands came back to the house and some more oil, at this point call my local parts house he came up with a bad front oil seal. So I wanted to did further into this, and found a lot of Dodge, Chrysler, owner had this same problem. I pull up and copy these problem's some p/t owners said the dealer wanted to charge them to change the engine because of the thrust bearing was to far out of specs. And pushing the front seal out and causing leak. If this would happen at high speeds, this would have a terrible terrible problem. I think Chrysler knows about this, because one Chrysler tech did say he knows the 2. 4l has a crank seal issue on a handful of the vehicle. Now our p/t only has 55,000 miles on it and this problem should not be. Most owner that I've read about has mileage no more than 110. 000. And some have had the seal replace two-three times. I think Chrysler needs to step up to plate and address this problem now we are stuck without a car. This could cost in the thousands, this problem should have address long ago. The hole under carriage is soak with oil.

20 Suspension problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

While driving at 30 miles an hour, the front suspension cross-member broke as a result of severe rust. This caused the right front wheel to steer towards the ditch creating a significant safety hazard. The rust was caused by water draining from the air conditioner onto the passenger's side of the cross-member. I have attempted to order a replacement part from Chrysler but so far the outlook for delivery has changed four times and is currently estimated for 12/25/2013 (2. 5 months after the car became inoperable). Not only does Chrysler ignore the numerous reports of this commonly reported design flaw, they are proving to be incapable at providing replacement parts. This is evident as I am one of 28 car owners who are waiting for this part from Chrysler, and there is high demand for this part from junkyards.

21 Suspension problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/31/2013

I was making a right hand turn from a main road onto a side street. While the car was turning, I heard a clunk and the steering wheel was jerked from my hands. The car pulled hard to the right and crashed into the curb. The car was towed to the repair shop and the service tech showed me the engine cradle was completely rusted out and the k frame was cracked all the way thru. It's to rusted to be welded and I was told this is a common problem with the cruiser and Dodge neon, since they use the same frame. The tech also told me I was lucky that I wasn't moving at high speed or the results could have been fatal. He also told me that chysler is aware of this problem, they are completely out of replacement parts, and they basically ignore any complaints.

22 Suspension problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/18/2013

While slowing down to stop for a red light my car suddenly veered to the right. I had to turn the steering wheel to the left to keep the car straight while I stopped. I had the car towed to a garage and upon inspection they found the crossmembers under the engine were completely rusted and broken. I bought the car new and although the car is 13 years old it only has 56,000 miles and has always been stored in a garage.

23 Suspension problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

The front suspension cross-member is severely rusted and will require replacement before the car will pass inspection. The car was in for routine service when my mechanic pointed out that the only rusted part on the vehicle was the front suspension cross-member and that it was bordering on unsafe. This car has relatively low miles at 76k and is in excellent condition otherwise. This rusted part could fail with no indication that danger was imminent and cause loss of steering and ultimately a vehicle crash at any speed.

24 Suspension problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

I was traveling down the highway with my two children in the car. I slowed at an intersection and the vehicle abruptly pulled to the right. I almost lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the ditch, but I was able to stop in time. I proceeded to have the vehicle towed home and was told by a mechanic that the subframe of my vehicle had rusted through. This is a major concern with the safety of my family and others that I could have gotten into an accident with. I feel that Chrysler should be responsible for the repairs of my vehicle, other then the subframe I needed to have my car last more then 10 years.

25 Suspension problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

I bought a 2001 Pt Cruiser and within a couple of weeks the headlights stopped working. Replaced multi function switch but did not help. Had to re-wire the lights to make them work. Also it sounds like the passenger side front tire has something loose. Possibly bushings?? I've seen several complaints about the lights. What is it gonna take to get a recall in place? we got a ticket for it.

26 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

Owned this car approx. 3 months with problems from day 1. First week took in for 3 front end alignments, car always pulled to the right, problem never fixed. After one month when summer arrived no cold air, had to have evaporator replaced $1,000, car in shop for 2 weeks, air still not blowing cold. Replaced low pressure switch, high end switch, pressure line, still no cold air, problem was never resolved. Would idle real hard at stops. Told it was a broken motor mount, replaced $150. Car overheated, replaced thermostat, still overheating, could not figure out why. . . Finally the turbo engine blew on the 3 month anniversary of owning this car. Had to call bank to volunteer a surrender due to cost of replacing engine. Car dealer was no help, just told me there was not a recall or warranty on this vehicle. Called Chrysler and was told it was dealers responsibility. Wow, I will never own a Chrysler again, this was the first and definitely the last!.

27 Suspension problem of the 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

I was driving the car and the car started pulling and making a scraping noise, I took the car into Chrysler and they did an oil change and said I'd need brakes and had worn shocks> I told them I thought that was unusual for a car with only 19k on it. I told them I wanted a second opinion, I took the car that day to midas, they confirmed the right break was shot and was the rotor but the rest were fine, and the shock was not worn but leaking. I called Chrysler and told them they were mistaken and if they were doing there job they would have notice that a month earlier when the car was in there for tire rotation. The brakes were r fixed for 354. 00 and Chrysler wanted me to send the receipt when they quickly denied. The car has a lifetime warranty on it, and I understand the 1yr etc on brakes. . But if I drove the car normally it would have shown up,,and this was not wear (I kept the used parts) and the shocks not worn. I bought the car brand new and wondering if it was damaged on the lot or something. . .

28 Suspension problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

My Pt Cruiser convertible started making a thumping noise when I would turn. The noise would come from the front passenger side. Limped it to les schwab and was told I needed to replace struts and some plate thing that goes on top. I will have to $750. 00 out of pocket. I have read numerous complaints and believe this should be a recall.

29 Suspension problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

My Pt Cruiser has had to have all of the front end replaced, car started acting up at 50,000 miles and I now how almost 81,000 and I have replaced everything in the front end except the cv joints, which I hope does not need after I send this. I just had to have the rack and pinion done. When speaking with Chrysler directly they state that the Pt Cruiser has had a lot of recalls due to front end, but I am told that my VIN number does not fall in the mix. I am the only owner of my Pt Cruiser. I have replaced parts on my car starting back in 2010 early 2011.

30 Suspension problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

Heard thumping noise on right passenger side and new tires wore out prematurely. Mechanic investigated and found front end sealed bearings were completely shot. Since car is no longer under warranty it cost us $800 to repair. Based on the other complaints we have found, this seems to be a recurring problem with this model and should be subject to recall.

31 Suspension problem of the 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/29/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact took the vehicle in for an oil change and was informed that the bushings needed to be replaced. Whenever the vehicle was driven over bumps in the road, the two front tires shook. The dealer stated that the bushings repair would be performed at the contact's expense. The contact believed that the shaking seemed to have contributed to the air bag light being illuminated. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000 and the current mileage was approximately 20,000.

32 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

The front and rear suspensions parts began bouncing excessively.

33 Suspension problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/21/2007

I own a 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser with 40,000 miles on it. The warranty is up and I just found out that the front axle bearing is shot. My mechanic was very shocked to discover this on such a new car and said it was very unsafe. I am very upset with Chrysler since I have come to find out that this is a chronic problem with the Pt Cruiser and happens on every model and year. I have read about many exact same complaints from owners of this vehicle.

34 Suspension problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/20/2007

On 04/26/07 my Pt Cruiser was into dealership (not same as where I bought car). Tech said excessive play in front bearings & may need hubs replaced. I bought car 07/28/06 from daytona Chrysler in auto mall. I paid to have bearings replaced, later in 2007, @ dealership in st. Augustine, FL. & other one replaced in 2008 or 2009. The contact stated that the tread was fine, the belt in the tire was faulty. The vehicle had a slight oil leak. The dealer replaced transmission solenoid pack. Updated 03/19/07.
