Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint problems of the 1996 Chrysler Sebring - part 1

: the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the front end of the vehicle shook, which caused a loss of vehicle control. The vehicle was taken to a private repair shop, who determined that the rubber on the front lower ball joints had split. There was a NHTSA recall # 99v066003 which pertained to the lower ball joint. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.

The consumer received recall notice in 1999. Nhtsa's recall # 99v066003. When taken to get serviced, they did not service the vehicle, they only inspected it. The consumer was told that the ball joints where fine. Recently, the consumer was involved in an incident where he was driving on the highway at approximately 55 mph. The front left ball joint broke causing him to loose control of the vehicle, he was able to avoid an accident. He again took the vehicle to get serviced and was told that they would only cover the ball joints and not the additional damage.

Problems with ball joints on 1996 Chrysler Sebring. The vehicle was recalled in Dec 1997 and the dealer stated they were only required to visually inspect the front ball joints and elected to replace the left side only under recall #750. In Nov 2002 the right front ball joint assembly fell apart without warning.

Was driving down the road approximately going 65 mph. The front drivers side lower ball joint broke, causing the whole front of vehicle to drop to the ground. Slide a cross two lanes of traffic and 1 block later vehicle came to a stop. Also having problems with rear struts. I have had all parts replaced. The only damage to vehicle is the paint scrapes to the front lower part.

Nhtsa campaign 00v421002; daimler Chrysler issued a lower ball joint recall. This vehicle is not included in the recall. The consumer was driving 55 miles per hour when all of a sudden he heard a popping noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The consumer lost control of the vehicle before coming to a complete stop on the side of the road. The consumer took the vehicle to the shop and results showed that the lower ball joints needed to be replaced. Ball joint snapped and resulted in the wheel turning sideways. As a result the driveer lost control of the vehicle. When vehicle finally came to rest the tire was totally destroyed and under carriage sustained damage.

While merging into the interstate right front lower ball joint snapped off from the a- frame. Vehicle was towed to a repair shop. Mechanic determined that the problem was due to no lubrication/grease between the seating of the ball joints.

While turning, the front passenger side lower ball joint failed. The consumer had the vehicle towed to a dealership. The dealership's mechanic repaired the problem once, but the consumer is still experienced having problems. Recall number 97v-201-000. Please provide more information.

On may 5, 2005 while on interstate 95 in virginia the low ball joint on the right front side of my 1996 Chrysler Sebring seperated from my vehicle causing me to lose control on the vehicle and stopping in the fast lane on the busy interstate highway unable to move it causing damage to the body of the vehicle and the transmission, the year before the same thing happened to my vehicle due to a recall on the ball joints and it was replaced in a rush by a Chrysler dealer, when it happened in may Chrysler refused to repair the recall and refused to pay for my rental car fees and I could not afford to repair the vehicle or pay for the rental car and now I have no vehicle all because of shoty work done by Chrysler.

Front lower ball joints wore out. As a result, a grinding sound was produced.

While driving 5-10 mph the front passenger side wheel fell off due to the separation of the lower lateral arm ball joint. The vehicle was recalled for this problem before the current consumer owned the vehicle. Please provide any additional information.

Last week while driving in my 1996 Chrysler Sebring on the freeway my lower ball joint disconnected from my car sending car out of control. The wheel ended up underneath my car the rim spark and lighted the tire on fire. I fractured my knee in the accident and have extensive damage to my vehicle I dont not feel safe in this car, I am filing a suit against Chrysler this should of never happened. I need info on how to deal with this matter.

The ball joint letting go .

I was involved in an accident caused by a defective front end. The ball joint fell totally out of the control arm causing major damage to vehicle under carriage and panels.

Consumer is still having problems after recall has been performed on the vehicle. Recall#00v421002 lower ball joint. Please provide the dealer name, address and number. Mr.

While driving, the lower ball joint broke, pulling out axle, and damaging fender. Had vehicle towed to dealer. .

While traveling on the highway without prior warning the left rear wheel fell off. Please fill in additional information dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.

While driving at approximately 50 mph lower ball joint broke after recall 00v421002 had been performed to correct a defect in vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

While traveling about 30mph without prior warning. The driver side front wheel fell off. Please provide additional information. Dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.

Received recall notice 00v421002. Contacted dealer and took vehicle in. Was kept for over 3 weeks. Vehicle had an extra 480 miles on in and 1/4 fuel tank. Had checked mileage after filling fuel tank. Mechanic refused to repair as according to recall. Failed to clean and put special sealant on ball joints for prevention of moisture. Been in contact with manufacturer.

The vehicle was inspected for recall 99v-066 of the front ball joints, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that no problem existed, 21 days later vehicle was taken to a garage for a front end alignment and consumer was told the upper ball joint needed to be replaced along with the left front wheel bearing and hub assembly, the consumer feels the dealer did not properly diagnose the problem and requests reimbursement for repairs made. Nlm.

Consumer received recall letter concerning lower ball joint failure. Consumer replaced it at his own expense, and has been contacting the manufacturer for reimbursement. Manufacturer has no plans, as of yet, to reimburse the consumer.

While driving at 40mph, front driver's side tire separated from vehicle due to lower ball joint failure.

Received notice #99v066003/ lower ball joints and contacted dealership. Mechanic checked vehicle & found it okay. 3 months later, the wheel fell off. Took vehicle back to dealer. Service manager indicated ball joints & parts had rusted out & needed to be replaced.

While pulling into a praking space at 5 mph there was some knocking noise and clicking noise coming from the vehicle and the front left wheel came apart from the ball joint.

Hile drivng at 65 mph an d without prior warning front end fell down onto the tire due to broken lower ball joint.

Vehicle experienced failure of the recall component 97v201 prior to recall notification, consumer has not received reimbursement for repairs.

Vehicle experienced failure of the recall component (99v-066) prior to recall notification, resulting in damage to vehicle.

Vehicle experienced failure of recall component (99v-066003) which caused extensive damage to vehicle, however denied recall work due to VIN #.

Was pulling out of parking space when ball joints on the lower control arm had separated and snapped. Vehicle not under recall #97v201000.

Consumer was pulling out of a parking space when lower ball joint broke apart. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that their vehicle was not under that recall.

The ball joint and lower lateral arms failed prior to recall notice 99v-066, the consumer contacted manufacturer for reimbursement but was denied(attorney for client). Nlm.

Dealership is not performing recall oov421002 for the lower ball joints within a reasonable time frame.

Right/left ball joints fell off while vehicle was mobile.

Dealership could not perform recall 97v201 for ball joint replacement due to lack of parts and tools that were stolen. Another dealership replaced both deteriorated ball joints and informed consumer that both ball joints were completely deteriorated and was hazardous.
