Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problems of the 1999 Chrysler Sebring

Seven problems related to automatic transmission floor shift have been reported for the 1999 Chrysler Sebring. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2006

: the contact stated the floor shifter will not stay in park and the key will not come out of the ignition. There is a NHTSA recall, # 04v021000, regarding the automatic transmission: lever and linkage: floor shift. The model was not included in the recall.

2 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

Recall reimbursement request for transaxle shifter ignition/park interlock. The shifter assembly had broken.

3 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2004

Recall campaign: notice for Chrysler Sebring 1999 transaxle. The consumer request reimbursement for the distance he had to travel to have the recall done.

4 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2004

Main transmission seal failure, pan gasket failure, bushings and support bracket failure. The consumer received a recall letter regarding a defective interlock. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs, however the consumer believed since the recall was performed, additional problems with the transmission had arisen. The consumer was told the problems that have occurred had not to do with the recall. Prior to receiving the recall notice, on several occasions, the consumer was able to remove the key from the ignition when the vehicle was not in park, on another occasion, the vehicle rolled into a parking garage which caused damaged to the consumers rear bumper.

5 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2004

Recall 04v021000 concerning floor shift ignition park interlock. Vehicle was taken in for recall repairs, but the problem still persisted. The key could be taken out of the ignition when the vehicle was running. Also, gear shift could be moved when the key was out of the ignition.

6 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2004

Dealership to help consumer correct the transaxle floor shifter ignition park interlock. The consumer had a bad experience while attempting to have the vehicle's recall work done at the dealership(recall # 04v021000). The dealer indicated that the recall work could not be done on a Saturday therefore the consumer made eventually able to made a Saturday appointment but when she arrived her appointment was not recorded. The consumer was then told that the minimum wait was 2 hours to have the vehicle repaired. The consumer refused to wait two hours.

7 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2004

While the vehicle was parked it rolled backward and into a tree. The key was not inside the ignition switch and vehicle was turned off. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.
