36 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

I used the horn and it didn't shut off when I removed my hand from the steering wheel. I had to remove the fuse to get it to turn off. I replaced the fuse but the horn would still go off by itself at random times. A dealer told me the clock spring in the steering wheel was faulty and needed to be replaced. Apparently, this is a common problem with this vehicle, and it is very unsafe since it affects the airbags as well as the horn.

37 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

This is a safety issue not only for the driver of the car the others on the road with them! I was just going down the road and the horn starting going off all by itself. Finally took out the fuse. The horn just goes off randomly. It went off when hitting unlock button on remote and or just driving. Then took it to my mechanic and he said that the horn pad assembly which was a dealer only part had to be replaced some sensor or something. So right now I have just left the fuse out, because it is an expensive fix. $1000. 00. I agree with all of the other people that Chrysler should be fixing this issue. Removing the fuse has caused the air bag functions to be unknown. Removing the fuse to stop the horn also affects part of the fueling system according to the manual (same fuse). Removing the fuse has caused us not to be able to use our horn incase something ran in front of the car or to alarm others of harm. The horn is a function of safety and warning. This is standard on all cars as a precaution and warning system. This is not a part of the car that is special ordered, these come standard with all cars. So why is Chrysler not paying for this safety issue? your company has been run into the ground with recalls and safety measures not being taken seriously enough. Time to act on this situation; with over 70 complaints this must not be a whim. Sad part is this is not the only issue with this car three recalls on it and the dealer sold the car anyway without repairing recalls.

38 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

While driving home from the movies the horn started to blow on it's own accord. Since that incident it has done this three time. I have to pull up on the air bag cover on the steering wheel housing to stop it. This morning it started going off again. I took it to my mechanic and he advised I take it to the dealership for repair since it is housed with the air bag. My mechanic did unhook the horn for me which is a big safety hazard. I have read that this also disengages the air bag.

39 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

Horn continuously blows. Pulled fuse to stop horn blowing and disabling the air bag.

40 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2012

Could not use my horn and airbag did not deploy during an accident. The airbag and horn do not work because the fuse had to be taken out the fuse runs these functions. The fuse was taken out because the horn does not function properly which also means the airbag has a fifty, fifty chance of working with the fuse in. Because no investigation has been done on this function everyone on the road is at risk. Safety is an issue and this needs to have a recall. Stop making americans pay for lemons!!!.

41 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2012

At random times while driving the horn blows and stays on like it's stuck , it will do it at random times while parked or locking and unlocking the doors . Sometimes you can beat on the center of the steering wheel and it will go off like their is a short in the electrical wiring of the horn button . The only way to drive the car or keep the battery from draining is to pull the horn relay out of the fuse block and then you don't have the safety of the air bags . In most states the horn must work in order to pass a vehicle inspection . I also phoned the Chrysler corp. To let them know of this on going unsafe issue that so many of their customers are living with and they said their were no recalls at this time . There has probably already been many accidents and fatalities from this hidden failure . Horn blowing at the wrong time or no horn at the right time and no air bags to protect you at that time . . . . . . .

42 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

Horn started going off by itself on my ride to work on a very cold morning. Has gone on several other times since while driving. Horn remains on for several minutes each time until I can safely pull to the side and hit the horn area of the stearing whel with a hammer to get it to turn off. This is a huge safety issue, the horn doesnt work properly when I need it to and it turns on on its own when I dont need it to cauzing a driving hazard for myself and other drivers on the road. From my research I have seen that pulling the fuse will also disable to airbag creating a double safety issue. This should absolutely be recalled by Chrysler as this appears to be a common safety issue in many of their makes, models and years.

43 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

Car alarm or horn will go off in the morning when its wet/damp whenever I unlock with clicker or manually with a key. It will go off for about 30 seconds then shut off. Only until recently did the horn start going off while driving in the morning for 20-30second spurts. This would happen on freeways and residential roads. Had to disconnect the horn relay which I understand is also associated with the airbag to stop the honking. I do not feel comfortable driving without an airbag but that is the only short-time solution I have. I also understand to fix it is well over 1000 dollars and even then is not a permanent fix.

44 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that the horn would unexpectedly sound while driving various speeds and when the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 146,152.

45 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

In the middle of the night and then while driving, the horn will begin to blare (like someone laying on it without letting up) for 30 seconds or more. I initially took the car to my local mechanic who could not reduplicate the issue and even performed an electrical diagnostic test. One week after getting the car back from the mechanic who could not find the issue, the horn blared in the middle of the night again. I believe this is a safety issue because, this morning, I will need to deactivate the horn relay again. If the horn goes off in the middle of traffic which it has done to me before, it can cause confusion and anger. Without the horn, however, I do not have the means to alert another driver of a potential incident (example, another driver attempting to change lanes and not realizing I am in lane next to them). Also, I understand I am not the first one to complain about this exact same issue. From other complainants, I see that the horn is tied in with the airbag assembly in the steering wheel/column, so apparently the airbag is affiliated in this malfunction, again a safety issue and very expensive repair I cannot afford to make.

46 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The horn begin blowing intermittently whenever the steering wheel was turned, then whenever there was a bump in the road, then while in the garage. Banging on the steering wheel sometimes stopped it. Local mechanic diagnosed the problem as the horn contacts that are part of the airbag in the steering wheel. Replacement cost quoted as $998. On searching the internet, I find many reports of the same problem. Chrysler should issue a recall for this problem and refund the cost to any who have paid to fix the problem.

47 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2011

2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible: the horn honks without pushing the horn pad. The horn fuse has to be disconnected in order to stop the random honking. This disables the horn and air bag deployment which is unsafe.

48 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Several times my horn came on and honked continually. It happened when I was driving as well as when my car was just sitting in the driveway. I almost got a ticket from the local police one day because of it. It happened when I hit the button on the remote to unlock the car door, or for no reason at all. . . When I was driving, I had to push down hard on the center of the steering wheel as I steered with the other hand. It was very dangerous. When I took it to the car dealer, I was told it was caused by a "clock switch" that controls the horn and the air bag. It would cost over $600 just for the part. It will be around $1100 with labor. Since I don't have that much money to spare, my they told me to pull the horn relay fuse out. The service technician said doing that would stop the horn, but also prevent the air bag from deploying. So now I am driving without a horn or an air bag, a major safety hazard, especially when my wife and children must ride in our car. I contacted Chrysler to lodge a complaint & they were very rude to me & the rep told me to do whatever as they have never heard of such a complaint, even though there are thousands of gtc owners that are complaining all over the internet of the exact same issues!!! it is ridiculous that I have to sacrifice my family's safety due to no support from Chrysler. I could understand if it was a part that wears out , or could be broken by negligence, but it's not!! I informed them that I will register a complaint with you.

49 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2011

In March or so of 2011, while driving, all of a sudden my horn just goes off for no reason whatsover and would not stop. I took it to a local mechanic and was informed that its a factory problem with the clockspring. This part however is attached to the air bag assembly & to replace it, the entire air bag assembly must be also replaced which is over $600 just for the part & another $1000 for labor. My only option was to completely disconnect the air bag assembly as its the only way to stop the horn. So now I have to drive the car without the air bag system. This is a direct safety defect!! I spoke with a Chrysler rep & they informed me that they had never heard of this problem with that years model, even though there are sooo many complaints online all over the USA about it. . . How can this not be a safety recall??? I will never buy another Chrysler!!.

50 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

Failure of horn. Vehicle was being driven at 45mph. The horn started operating with out any input from driver. The driver could not turn off horn. Driver pulled the vehicle onto the shoulder of the road and turned off ignition. The horn stopped operating. As soon as ignition was turned on, the horn began to sound once again. Driver turned off ignition and removed the fuse for the horn. Driver continued on with the horn disabled. Chrysler dealership said the clock spring and/or horn contacts under steering wheel cover were the problem.

51 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

I have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring that I purchased new and the horn goes off by itself all the time. It has gone off when I click the lock or unlock buttons on my keyless remote, when you open or close the door, driving down the road, starting or shutting off the vehicle, while sitting in the driveway. I can't seem to find anything in particular that will make it stop. After some investigating I have found this is a very common problem with the Sebrings and have discovered that it will cost approx. $1000 to fix it. The horn is attached to the airbag in the steering column, so the airbag has to be replaced. I have also discovered that if you pull the horn fuse, which most people are doing because they can't afford the repair, it will disable the air bag. So I feel this is a very bad safety issue. 1. The horn going off randomly and not working properly when needed. The horn has to be working properly before your car can pass the safety inspection 2. If people pull the horn fuse to stop it from going off then their air bag won't work, which isn't safe. I have found 27 complaints about this same problem on your webiste alone. Found numerous complaints on other websites. I feel that Chrysler should have to do a recall and fix this problem before someone gets hurt. I can't afford the $1000 so have pulled my horn fuse and am now driving without an airbag and horn. How safe is that?.

52 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2010

Horn just goes off on its on no matter f the car's engine is running or not. It occures at least 2 to 3 times a day till I pulled the fuse.

53 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

Was sitting at a red light when horn went off by itself. Driver in front of me yelled back at me in anger asking what is my problem. Told her my horn just went off and I cant turn it off. Finally after hitting the horn pad a number of times it stopped. Another time I beeped the horn in front of my house and the horn wouldn't stop. Couple days ago I was driving down the street when the horn went off and I had a hard time getting it to stop. Now the horn will not work when pushing the horn pad.

54 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

Horn goes off intermittenly in cold weather. The first time it happened was at aprox 3am and again at 6am. I've had to start pulling the fuse every night. It will also randomely go off while driving. Not only is it humiliating but it is dangerous. I was shocked and very dissapointed to find all the complaints on line but when I called Chrysler they had received none. People, nothing can be addressed if you don't complain to the source. Please everyone with this issue call you Chrysler canada or us and make a formal complaint so this issue can be properly addressed. I have yet to have the issue daignosed becuae it has to be a cold day and the few times I've made appointments it has warmed up in between.

55 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2010

2006 Chrysler Sebring horn-apparently there are many people with the same problem. Mine will not work when I need it, but it will go off about once very 3 days. I have given senior citizens virtual heart attacks, scared other drivers to death, and then just mad people mad since they can't figure out why I would just lay on my horn for 1 solid minute for no reason.

56 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2010

Like many others, I had to pull the fuse for my horn, disabling my air bag because the horn kept going off. Why hasn't it been recalled?.

57 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

Horn started going off when the car was parked in drive. Then started going off as you drive the car. The only way to stop it is to take out the fuse, which disables the airbag in the steering wheel. Both of these problems are safety issues and there needs to be a recall and Chrysler needs to be financially responsible as it seems to be a design flaw. We have been told that the airbag would have to bee removed to get to the horn contacts and this will cost upwards of $800. We live on disability due to cancer and can not afford this cost. Car was bought to get husband back and forth to cancer treatment. There are 61 complaints this same problem on the internet.

58 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

I have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring for the last couple of months I have been having issues with my horn. If I press the horn sometimes it won't work and if it does it will continue to blare without me even touching it. Recently it started to just go off by itself whether the car is on or off, or I'm in it or not. It will start blaring when I drive sometimes and no amount of pushing the horn pad will stop it, it will stop when it wants to. Sometimes when I am in my house I hear my car beep the horn a couple of times. This is a safety problem b/c this startles the driver and others around them, I believe this could cause an accident and if not could potentially make the wrong person mad and result in me getting hurt. This really concerns me and after doing much research I have found that there are many other people with the same problem and honestly Chrysler should have to fix this b/c its obviously not the consumers fault. Do people really have to die or something for this to be viewed as a problem and for someone to fix it? I really hope not and I really hope it gets resolved. We all pay enough money for our cars, we shouldn't have to pay more for a problem that we didn't create.

59 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Sebring. While the vehicle was parked the horn began to blow on its own and turned off after approximately twenty seconds. The failure occurred numerous times and it continues to occur intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician repaired the foreign relay. The approximate failure mileage 32,000.

60 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2010

2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible the panic alarm goes off in the car in the mornings without being pushed. It usually happens in the early mornings and when it is very cold outside. On average maybe 4-8 times a year. So far I have researched online and noticed that several other people have had the same problem. In my opinion this needs to be reviewed in light of this affecting 100's of people. Please review this for possible recall. I understand from some consumers on a blog that there is a defect with the air bag and the proximity to the horn. I do not understand the mechanics aspect but know this is not a normal occurrence or routine wear and tear. This is something that should be recalled and repaired by Chrysler and not the consumer. This is not a small expense it averages about $800 dollars to be repaired. I appreciate your review and consideration. Thank you.

61 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

Upon starting the car the horn sounds. Until repaired, the temporary solution was to remove the horn fuse, but this of course meant driving without a functional horn. Eventually it was repaired by the dealer. We have the old parts.

62 Horn Assembly problem

63 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2009

My horn will go off all by itself and I have to pound the steering wheel to make it stop. There isn't any consistency to when it will go off. It'll sound with or without the keys in the ignition, today it went off when I put the key into the doorlock. It also doesn't work when I need it to. If I hit the horn, nothing will happen until a couple seconds later, and then it won't stop. I've had 2 close calls with a vehicle coming into my lane and not being able to warn them by honking. One of those times was at 75mph on the freeway. If I hadn't had room to maneuver, we would have had an extremely bad accident. Many people have posted on the internet with this same problem. On this site, I was able to find 10 complaints with the '06 and 4 with the '05. I 'm concerned for my safety when I drive this car and urge you to investigate/issue a recall.

64 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Sebring touring. While proceeding from a traffic signal at 15 mph, the vehicle safety alarm system sounded without warning, and then deactivated. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired for the failure. Updated 1/28/10 the consumer stated when the vehicle was started, the alarm and horn would sound. Then it would start again while driving. Updated 02/03/10.

65 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Horn went off would not stop on chrylser 2006 Sebring. Fuse was pulled to stop horn disabled horn & airbag according to 3/4's of others reports. Please execute manufacturer recall.

66 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2009

2006 Sebring, also have a problem with the horn going off by itself, more so in cold weather and for at least a year. With all the other complaints this is definitely a problem that should be a recall as this can be dangerous if you are in traffic and it confuses the horns intent. Have complained but have gotten the brush off from the dealer saying they could do nothing until they heard the horn go off.

67 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2009

I have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring and the horn in my car keeps going off for no reason while I am driving and while its parked its getting to the point where I cannot even use my horn at all when I need it but it will go off when I don't a few moments later and it wont stop even when I hit it.

68 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2009

Horn on my 2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible blows randomly as I am driving. The horn activates itself.

69 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

2006 Chrysler Sebring. Horn goes off at will when I'm driving or when the car is just sitting there. When I really need the horn, it will either not honk at all or get stuck and keep honking for about 3 minutes. This has been happening on and off for over a year now.

70 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2009

Horn started to sound when I was in a parking lot at low to no speed. It would not stop. I had to pull the fuse to disconnect. Dealer said entire horn with airbag assembly needed to be replaced. I was under warranty, but I noticed the repair ticket had a cost in the range of $700 to $1,000 to complete the job. I bet a lot of people just leave horn and airbag disconnected rather than pay that much money, especially if the car is older.
