Chrysler Sebring owners have reported 92 problems related to vehicle speed control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chrysler Sebring based on all problems reported for the Sebring.
I have a 2008 Chrysler Sebring sedan. The radiator is leaking fluid that splashes all over the wires causing a burning smell. I later found out that this is caused by an electrical issue with the sensors. Similarly my tire pressure sensors are fried. These issues have eroded wires causing my a/c and cruise control systems to malfunction. My power windows have issues sometimes I can't get them to roll up or down. My internal lights in my car flickering on and off. The mess from the radiator is also causing my engine to overheat. I am now having issues with oil pan leaks as a result of too much pressure from the engine. I see that only certain vins were added to the recall list. I strongly suggest that NHTSA add other vins to the recall list, especially mine, since I'm having those exact same issues. I see that there are complaints about this year make and model as recent as last year. Why hasn't the recall list been updated? please update the recall list. Please and thank you!!.

In February 2021 my car wouldn’t stop, tried to give it a jump and it still wouldn’t start. Replaced the battery and it started working again. In April 2021 my engine light came on. I got a diagnostic and the error code read: p2016 intake manifold runner position sensor/switch circuit low bank 1. I didn’t get it fixed. Shortly after, I began hearing a faint crackling noise and noticed when I would drive on turn pikes my a red brake symbol would briefly pop up on my dash board and then go away. In may 2021 my horn stopped working and front right turn signal light stopped working. I tried to get a new one installed it wouldn’t work. I was told it could be an electrical issue. In July 2021 my right low beam head light stopped working. I tried to get a new bulb installed and it still wouldn’t work. At this time I was told the same thing, that it seems like there may be an electrical issue. This month, November 2021, a few days ago on Monday November 1st, I began noticing an acceleration issue in the morning. I would press the accelerator and it wouldn’t pick up until a few seconds later, it was like a delay. Later that day while I was driving on the free way a red flash symbol with lines between it began flashing on my car and my car wouldn’t drive over 20 mph. I pulled over. Shortly after I turned my car back on and it began driving semi normal and I was able to get home. I tried out my car the next day and in the morning the same thing happened again. The red flash symbol with 2 lines on the side of it began flashing on my dashboard and my car wouldn’t go over 20 mph. I’m not sure what the issue is but when I looked up what the red flashing symbol, I noticed a few others who had a similar experience with their 2008 Chrysler Sebring which made me want to look up whether there was a recall and I found out there was but when I searched whether my car was eligible through my VIN number it said there was none unrepaired.
At any given moment loss of power will occur and motor will shut off. Anytime on the freeway or parked. Occasionally at random intervals car will crank but not turn over until after repeated attempts to start it will turn over appropriately.
My tps light has been on for quite some time and after a short time since the first time it appeared my issue worsens everyday. My car stalls, not only when I am stopped at a light, but even when I am driving at high speeds and the check engine light stays on all the time and blinks and dings at times and now the airbag light is on as well and blinks and dings all the time while the car is started. I took the car to get check for error codes, but none come up when the diagnostics is ran.
My husband and I are experiencing problems recently with the car stahling out and or getting stuck in low gear while driving on the hwy, it was terrifying! we are currently not at home and have a 10 hour drive back home while driving this extremely unstable car and am honestly scared to death we are going to get in an accident! this is the 3rd battery swap we've done in 3 months but only have last 2 receipts. We have done research and this car has had electrical recall for this problem however apparently our VIN dont match up to the recall. I dont understand it, this is extremely horrible business from Chrysler and as soon as we can get home hopefully safely. . We wont buy another. Please help fast!.
I was riding on the highway with my daughter in passenger seat when suddenly my engine light started blinking and the rpm's shot up to about 7,000 and continued if accelerator was press. I immediately pulled over. Call aaa to have car towed to my destination. The car was now in what is called limp mode and has been for 2 months now.

Very major problem. On a cold start, if the car was off for at least 6 hours, it cranks and cranks and cranks for about 8 seconds before starting, when it does start, it revs all the way to 2500 rpms by itself and slowly goes down. If I try to put it in drive before it stops revving, the rpms go up and down by themselves and my etc light starts flashing and I am unable to control the rpms. I then have to turn off the car and start it again to stop the car spasms. 50% when I start it and let it stop revving before shifting to drive, it goes down to 1000 rpms and I'm good to go. The other 50% of the time, it flashes the etc light and stutters and I must keep restarting the car to be able to safely drive it. I searhed up the problem and saw that bad spark plugs or a dirty intake manifold could be the problems. I then got my spark plugs changed and intake manifold taken out my car to be cleaned out. The problem still persisted. I then searched more and went through a thread of people having the same exact problem, people with Dodge avengers and Chrysler Sebrings all around the year my car model is. Multiple commenters in the thread explained that they put through a complaint to the NHTSA and a recall for their cars were made. Multiple people also said that the part in the car causing this problem is the fault of Chrysler and Dodge. Here's a link to the thread: https://dodgeforum. Com/forum/2008-current-Dodge-avenger/226963-electronic-throttle-control-light-horse-power-loss. Html this problem has both happened when my car is in park and in the middle of driving. It happened once when I was in the second lane on a three lane highway. This was the most dangerous situation because the car started to slow down in the middle of the highway until I was able to get to the shoulder and turn off the car. It's been happening since 2/3/20 but today, (2/15/20) was the harshest symptoms.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning and the tpms warning indicator remained illuminated. An independent mechanic replaced the battery, starter, and alternator; however, the failure continued. In addition, while driving over 60 mph, the vehicle would decelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. Steve white motors (3470 us hwy 70 se, newton, nc 28658, (888) 827-3721) was notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system); although, the vehicle exhibited the same failure. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
I was told it's electrical problem and the car doesn't go over 20 miles and it says that it's the intake also says it's the muffler and sensors and other things which I have had check and it neither. And sometimes it pushes back or is stalls and just turns off in the middle of the intersection.
Check engine light came on and I started having erractic shifting, codes came back as po755, p0700, p0716, p1607. This vehicle's transmission will not shift. I have taken to numerous shops half of them say it the pcm the other say it needs a transmission replacement. I have had the shift solenoid b replaced by dealership only for them to charge me then tell me it need a transmission replacement. The vehicle will still drive forward and backward but will not shift gears at all. Losses acceleration every so often then harsely goes back into gear while in motion. Rpm is very high but will still drive.

While driving at highway speed, etc starting flashing check engine light came on, instant lost of power. Car jerking, rpm's up and down.
Etc light comes on and vehicle will not accelerate it happens when I start the vehicle when I drive it happens constantly I took vehicle to Chrysler dealership and was told it wa the throttle body paid 800 dollars still have the etc and same issue happening. This is a libility and accident waiting to happen it is unsafe to drive a vehicle and have it lose acceleration why driving up hill or highway.
Takata recall I am driving down highway at 70 mph and car just shuts off no warning cant steer it and brakes dont work could of killed me and the kids.
Tl-the contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated the issue recurred numerous times in the same day. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Tw.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph the vehicle lost power then the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a service center for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed that the crank position sensor and the electronic control needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,529. Ah.
Car turns off automatically at low speed. Brakes lock at the same time this happens. I took it back to dealer to get serviced, and they stated that nothing was found. The serviceman did tell me that he called the Chrysler corp, and they told him they never heard of anything like this happening but on a forum on the internet, there are many complaints of this occurring. I told the man that it is a safety issue and how dangerous it is, and he agreed with me. This malfunction occurred two times already since I bought the car from the dealer. Fuccillo vw 2242 central avenue, schenectady, NY 12304 (518) 374-9161. My next issue is that I need sway bars. I brought the car back yesterday Dec 27, 2014, because as I was at a stop light, the light changed green, the transmission shifted gears at the same time I accelerated on the gas to go and I heard clicking for about a mile. The noise went away. I explained the problem to the serviceman and I was told that I need sway bars now. I just purchased the car in sept of this year, and I'm so disappointed to encounter all these problems. My extended warranty does not cover the work. I also say that this has been wearing from the previous owner and I am not at fault, nor should I have to pay for the work. I seriously do not even want this car anymore, and I am paying for it monthly from a loan they gave me from capital one financing. This is chaos, and has exacerbated my illness of having ms. I was duped. Please help.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated while at stopped, the vehicle accelerated independently causing the vehicle to crash into a ditch while attempting to avoid another vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
This has happened on several different occasions--becoming more frequent and lasting longer duration each time. While traveling various speeds (can and has happened anywhere from 5mph-60mph) if any pressure is applied to accelerator after breaking no matter the speed all power is lost to the car a red lighting bolt light appears on the dash and the rpm's will stay between 4,000-5,000. Each time having to pull off to the side of the road and attempt for it to restart (depends on if it will or not--usually takes it a while). Will get up to speed again and if I have to break for any reason or even slow down just a little without apply the breaks it can completely loose power. Also do not have any dash lights when the head lights are turned on. They appear in the center console but went out in 2009 just after I bought the car, and after several estimates in the thousands of dollars it remains with no lights (so in no way can you see the speed or anything else on the dash after dark. ).
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that while driving 4 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into a safety rail. The driver sustained injuries to her arm and neck while the passenger suffered injuries to her chest. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 103,000.
I was driving the vehicle on the highway. The etc light came on and the car would not accelerate. Coasted to the side of the road, turned car off, then back on and it ran fine. It has done this at least 30 times since. Now my etc light blinks and car will only go 10-20 mph, slows to 5mph going up any grade. Idle is rough and idles between 1500 and 2000. Sometimes when I first start the car it will run okay for about 2-3 minutes then etc light suddenly come on, car decelerates and I have almost been hit several times. Now the brake light comes on and off as does the check engine light. The dealer does not know what is wrong. This seems to be a common problem with this model vehicle. Chrysler needs to do something before someone is seriously injured or killed. I will never buy another Chrysler product because they will not fix this problem, always say they do not know what the problem is.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Chrysler Sebring. While stopped in a parking space the contact depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact noticed a red flashing light blinking on the instrument panel. The contact heard a banging sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact stated the failure was related to the electronic throttle control. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000. Da.

I lost power to my speed, my brakes failed. I was able to stop the car with my emergency brake. Once stopped I turned off my vehicle. Once I restarted the vehicle, the light did not come on however I still did not have the speed. My transmission would not shift from 3rd to overdrive. It would stay at 3000 rpm at 55 mph. My car normally runs @ 2500rpm or less up to 60mph. I do not know what I need to deo to have this issue resolved. This is my second time experiencing this with this vehicle. I also have a 2009 Chrysler pt cruiser and owned a 2006 Chrysler Sebring and never have experienced this.
I was going park under my carport and the car would not stop, I kept pressing the brakes down as hard as I could but the car kept moving until I pulled the emergency brake almost went into my house. Another incident where I was crossing the thruway and the car stalled in the middle of the intersection with cars coming, close to getting hit by multiple cars, other incidents where the car kills while under the red light, have to restart it.
The dash lights started blinking like a strobe light now they will just be off completely and randomly come back on. When they are off at night I cannot see my speed gas or temp.
I have had my vehicle in for service on two different occasions for the same problem, the check engine light won't go off and now my vehicle will not engage out of park.
The motor surges when in park & while idling at a stop sign. It has happened many times, and I have almost slammed into a pedestrian because it catches me by surprise. I removed the floor mat to ensure that is not the problem (it has happened 3 times since), and the last time it happened (last week) the car was in park, and the engine roared as if I was flooring the accelerator, on it's own.
Without warning at time my car will stall at a stop ie sign or traffic signal other time it will be stopped at a light & without warning the rpm will spike to over 2k rpm & neary caused an accident several time. There is no know reason for this in relation to temp, humidity etc or how long its been driven. Can it be that the flex fuel system is getting confused by the alcohol in the fuel?? also experience at time when filling gas tank it spits back & causes an overflow of fuel on side of car & ground??no matter how slow or fast its put in. All this has started in the last 5k miles please find a fix before it becomes a accident. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Sebring conv. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the electronic throttle control warning lamp illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the electronic throttle converter was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 75,000.
I bought my used touring model Sebring in may of 2011, and since then it has repeatedly jumped or leaped forward when coming to a stop or idling, even with my foot on the brake. I have almost caused a few accidents by ramming the car in front of me at a stop light and such. As well, it stalled out on me when I made a complete stop on 10/11/11. I have seen many, many of the same complaints and wish I knew what the issue was. Will be taking it into the repair shop tomorrow.
The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. The contact was driving 45 mph when applied the brakes and they failed. The contact tried to press harder on the brake pedal, but the vehicle accelerated abnormally. The vehicle then decelerated independently. On a separate occasion while entering a parking space with the brakes depressed, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and the contact crashed into another vehicle. There were no injuries. The dealer was contacted and informed her that a valve needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
On my way home from work on Friday June 22nd, the car was running very rough and I had trouble braking. On Monday June 25. I had been at a stoplight. When the light turned green I accelerated and when I was at about 25 mph I stepped on the gas pedal, tand had trouble gaining speed and the control light came on. I turned on my flashers and made it to a mechanic, but by that time the light had gone off. Every mechanic I have talked to tells me they can not determine the problem is and fix it unless the light is on when I bring in the car. When the light is on I have trouble accelerating and braking is very hard. This has happened numerous times and I believe this is a safety hazard and could cause serious accidents. I don't know what to do to get this fixed - no one seems to want to deal with this.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Sebring coupe. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 mph the vehicle surged forward and would not stop when she engaged the brakes. The contact began to shift gears and the vehicle stopped surging. The vehicle was pulled onto the side of the road and shut off. Upon restarting the vehicle it functioned normally momentarily before the failure recurred. In order to stop the vehicle from surging the contact began to shift the gears. The vehicle was not repaired or taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 91,000.
