Eight problems related to air bag not deploy have been reported for the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer states that airbag light has illuminated. Took to dealer and dealer stated clock spring needs replacing. Consumer feels airbag may not deploy. Please provide any further information. Ts.
The vehicle was involved in a frontal collision, and the air bags did not deploy. The consumer was injured.
Head on collision with a quarry dump truck at an uncontrolled intersection. Air bags did not deploy. Van was totaled. Dt.
Failure of part caused cruise control, horn and airbag to be non-operational. This is a safety hazard that occured at 65 mph on the freeway. If an accident had occured, I would have been unable to operate the horn to alert another vehicle and the airbag would not have deployed. In addition, the cruise control failed while in use on the freeway which also could have resulted in an accident.
The airbag light on dash came on. Took to dealer for estimated repair cost. Expected it to be repaired free, since this is a non-maintenance item. The van is less than four years old, but is out of manufacture's warranty due to mileage. Expected this to be covered. Dealer said that the cost would be $75 dollars to find the problem which we agreed. Then said it would cost $300 to repair, but the $75 would be credited to the repair & we would only need to pay an additional $225 if we repaired it within a reasonable time. The dealer was fitzgerald Dodge in frederick, MD, which is the same family of dealerships I bought it from (fitzgerald's lakeforest Chrysler/Plymouth in gaithersburg, MD). My question shouldn't they repair this free since the van is less than four years old, never in an accident and the air bag has never been deployed? please contact me as soon as possible. I want this corrected because my wife and family are on the road daily in this van and I fear for their safety without the air bag(s) working.
Upon rear impact consumer drivers seat back collapsed and air bags did not deploy, consumers sustained broken finger, unoccupied captain style seat broke out of its anchoring during accident. Nlm.
Due to the failure of the clock spring assembly, my cruise control, horn and air bag all failed as well. If I had experienced a crash the driver's side air bag would not have deployed.
Airbags light stayed on, and was informed that in event ofan accident airbags will not deploy. Cause is unknown.
