Transmission Failure problems of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Four problems related to transmission failure have been reported for the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2005

(1) I own a 2000 Chrysler Town & Country (with less than 70,000 miles) which I purchased only five months ago. While on vacation far from home, the transmission started whining loudly and shifting roughly. (2) I had the vehicle checked by two different mechanics who both informed me that the transmission was failing. (3) the transmission had to be replaced completely at a cost to me of approximately $2800.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2002

While driving in the passing lane on a thruway, the transmission failed without warning. The consumer was able to pulled over safely. The dealer was notified. Scc.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2001

Transmission failed while driving at 70 mph. Dealer has been notified. *akconsumer adds that the transmission blew out which made the van out of control.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2000

Transmission failed to hold vehicle while in "park". Wife had two near misses when vehicle drifted away while in "park" one in a school parking lot. Dealer replaced transmission at 131 miles.
