Engine problems of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Five problems related to engine have been reported for the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2008

Upon hearing a noise coming from the engine of our 2005 town and country we took the van to our independent mechanic. He found the noise was caused by a broken alternator mount. He did not complete any repairs but stated we should contact Chrysler since this was a manufacturer defect in the part. When I contacted Chrysler I was told I had to take it to an authorized dealer to have them look at it and then the dealership would have to call them back. I did that and the shop manager, jim, took an approximately 15 second look at the broken part, shut the hood, took my number and asked why Chrysler said he had to call. I told him that was what I had been told and he said he would get back with me. I called him the next day and he said he had a call in to his district manager who had the authority to authorize repairs. When jim called back he stated that the district manager would not repair the broken part based on the number of miles on the van (83,000. ) jim also stated that he had never seen this happen before and had no idea what could have caused the mount to break. He agreed that even if the van had 200,000 miles on it he would not expect to see the broken mount. I asked what other recourse I had and he stated I would have to call the 1-800 Chrysler number. I then called that number and spoke with steve who took a report ( which I requested to have filed. ) he then transferred me to cheryl who read the report and then called the dealership and spoke with jim. When she returned to me she stated they would not do the repair based on the number of miles and the fact that I did not exclusively use the dealership for routine maintenance. She said that since I did not show loyalty to the dealership and the brand then they were not willing cover the repair. No one ever denied that the product was defective.

2 Engine problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2008

While driving the car at night, without any warning, the engine began rattling. After having it towed to a local dealership, I was told the 7 year/70000 mile powertrain warranty would not be honored unless I can prove the vehicle was properly maintained. The car requires a new engine, which the estimated to be $8000. The car is 3. 5 years old with 29,000 miles and had regular oil changes. Chrysler still refuses to honor the warranty.

3 Engine problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2008

Almost every time after we fill up the gas tank of our 2005 Town & Country, the engine runs rough when we exit the station and many times dies entirely. Engine restarts almost immediately and it doesn't happen any other time. Even after tune-up, throttle body cleaning and new spark plugs, condition continues.

4 Engine problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2006

- the contact stated that every time he drove the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country with 15000 failure mileage and accelerated the vehicle pulled to the right. The vehicle had been taken to a dealer, and at first they were unsure of the cause of the failure, and then they thought it might have been a broken motor mount. The current mileage was 46,910.

5 Engine problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2004

While driving 75 mph the vehicle accelerated suddenly, then all source of power was lost. The consumer was able to coast to the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealer to determine the cause. Please provide additional information. The left front visor was replaced, it was difficult to shift from park to drive. The fuel pump was repalced due the vehicle shutting off while driving on the highway.
