Filled up our van with gas. Left the gas station to cut across oncoming traffic. The lane was clear so I went. As I accelerated the van shuddered and cut off in the middle of traffic!. Lost all power, steering wheel locked up, and the engine cut off. Luckily we were not in a head on collision or were t-boned in the side. My wife and 1 year old were in the car and could have easily been killed. Immediately I went and started doing some research on what happened. Come to find it a lot of people are having this problem with these vans. The problem is a design flaw in the gas system of these vans. I found multiple people who are experiencing the same thing. To date there have been no recalls on this issue. . Read more...
Right after filling up her 2006 town and country with gas, my daughter and 2 small children pulled out of the gas station into a busy intersection and the van sputtered and stalled out right in a busy intersection. The van did restart and thank god no one was hurt or killed. Then 2 min. Later it stalled again. It started again and was able to get it home. I am her father and have some background in auto mechanics. I did some checking and it seems there is some problems with the charcoal canister on the fuel tanks that are the problem with these vans. Sounds to me like there should be a recall for this problem before someone gets killed. I know if my daughter and granddaughters get hurt or worse, I will sue the pants off crysler.
Had just filled my gas tank and drove approximately half a block in distance, went to turn onto a side street and car stalled causing loss of power and steering in the turn. There have been a few previous incidents occurring after filling the gas tank (sometimes engine sputters, sometimes stalls, and twice the engine revved after restarting after filling the gas tank).
The vehicle will stall after filling the fuel tank, usually within the first quarter mile. It will stall one or two times, requiring a restart, often in the middle of an intersection or pulling into traffic. This happens nearly every time the fuel tank is filled. There are many online forums that attest to how common this problem is in Dodge caravan, Chrysler town and country, and Jeep models.
