1 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2017

For the second time since owning the car I had to replace both rear brake calipers, because they seized up and the rear brakes were not working at all, causing the front pads to wear excessively. I feel this is a design defect, undersized calipers/brakes that heat up excessively, causing them to seize. I drive on flat NJ highways, so there is no mountain driving involved, that could overheat the brakes. The first time, each sized failed separately and this results in a safety hazard, as if just 1 seizes, both rear brakes do not work. There is no indication of the failure, other than it feeling funny, when you brake. I find hundreds of people complaining about this same issue on websites like lemonlaw. Com.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2015

I have a 09 Chrysler t&c that has had multiple brakes, rotors, calipers and bearings issues. In February 2015 I had to replace the rear brakes, calipers, pads and rotors due to them locking up. I investigate the issue and found out that there were service bulletins that stated there was an issue with them and to replace them. Chrysler did they right thing and reimbursed me for the cost to replace all of that. I now find myself in the same situation with the front ones, so I did some investigation again and found a service bulletin about the fron ones and to replace them. I called Chrysler to let them know and they told me to get it to a certifed dealership to diagnosis and that they could possible help with cost assistance but since the extended warranty (x35) expired in April 2015, they can't guarantee that they will help. ( x35 it and extented warranty for this due to many issues that covers 5 yrs from date of mfg or 90,000 miles) well guess what came first 5 yrs. . . . . They car is undrivable due to this issue, so now I have to have it towed from my mechancis to a certifed dearlership that I don't know or trust. . . . .

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2013

I bought the minivan used 11/2012 - 3/2013 brakes were acting up grinding metal to metal - had a friend who does shop work look at them - ended up replacing both rear calipers, drums and brakes -June 2013 started doing the same thing - had same friend look at them - pads were gone after only 3 months, he replaced them again - they were smoking, had to have it towed to dealership - they refused to do anything as I had an unlicensed repair done - so I paid again to have them replace the calipers, rotors, drums and brakes in rear - my car is in shop again today for rear calipers, rotors and brakes - it's 4/2014 - this is a huge safety issue for repeat concerns with brakes - dealership is unable to tell me why this keeps repeating -.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2012

Routine brake change after four months brakes were down to metal. Changed brakes again realized calipers must be sticking. While driving down hills in the mountains brakes began to smoke and had difficulty stopping.

5 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

I purchased this 2009 new, and was surprised the tires were almost bald near 28000 miles. I also had front brakes replaced for warped rotors. My mechanic at Chrysler insisted it was "normal wear" & insulted my wife. We now have 80,000 miles on the van & replaced the rotors approximately every year- 5000 miles or less. I have spent $2000 on brakes (rotors and pads) not including labor ! the warped rotors have again returned & my wife is terrified to drive on the freeway due to the shaking when brakes applied at 55 mph. I feel this is a safety issue as the vehicle shakes violently at 55 mph and braking is poor. I have read several hundred blogs of similar complaints on the 2008-2010 t&c vans. It is a design flaw where a plastic piston in the caliper over heats. Poor chinese parts are used. This is a dangerous condition. I have been a faithful Chrysler owner since 1975. Where's the recall ??.

6 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Brake calipers do not consistently release. They continue to drag and cause excessive heat. Reported it to dealer. They claim it was normal. Rear brakes and rotors had to be replaced at 23,000 miles and now 31000. You can hear the brakes come on while on the highway at 65mph with out ever pressing the pedal. . Read more...

7 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler town and country. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when pressure was applied to the brakes and the steering wheel began to vibrate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the front rotors were warped and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. There were numerous times that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the similar failure. A front end alignment and wheel balancing were performed and the problem persisted. An independent mechanic stated the manufacturer designed the vehicle with extremely small brakes and the improper size resulted in premature brake and rotor wear, and would require replacement every 6,000 miles. He also mentioned faulty rotors were a common problem with this model year vehicle. Most recently, the contact experienced the front brake calipers sticking and overheating. The manufacturer was notified of the defects and they accepted the responsibility to replace the front rotors and brakes at their expense. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.

8 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2010

Our Chrysler town and country is a 2009. We noticed the brakes started making noise after the vehicle was at the dealership because the air conditioning was not working. The brakes are now starting to grind so we took the vehicle to an independent garage. The mechanic said that he has never seen anything like it. Our rear brake hose system is blown as well as the calipers are shot. He said this seems very odd given the vehicle is a 2009 and a front wheel drive. It's getting worse and starting to make noise even when the brakes are not in use.
