1 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

The brakes and brake disks of our 09 Town & Country need to be replaced every 10k. The dealer knows about this issue, Chrysler has issued a replacement once and the other times we had to argue with them to get it replaced for free (both front and back, brake pads and disks). We are now at 48k and replacing the brakes for the 4th time. We have a other car (yukon xl with 86k and it never had any disks replaced). The people at the dealer feel bad for us and say they see this a lot but there is nothing they can do. I contacted Chrysler but they are not willing to fix it, only to replace it for free one more time. There are a lot of reports about this on the web, and this really warrants a recall on the brakes and fix it for real. The brakes overhead and this warps the disks. This can become very dangerous if not replaced right away.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

The front rotors and brake pads have replaced twice on the vehicle. The back rotors and pads have been replaced once and resurfaced once. I now have 29000 on the vehicle and will be bringing in the vehicle again because of the same vibration in the brake pedal when the brakes are applied.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

Brakes needed replacing -rotors and pads at 31,180 miles. . Chrysler was aware of the problem on these vehicles and had offered extended warranty for these brake repairs/replacement. Chrysler acted properly at this point, but did not really fix the problem longer term as we have had to replace the brake rotors and pads twice more since then. We are conservative drivers and do not ride the brake or brake harshly unless there is an emergency. Our vehicle now has only 56,600 miles on it and two more front rotor and pad brake replacements in the past twenty-five thousand miles is unacceptable and perhaps unsafe. We are communicating with both the dealer and with Chrysler, but based on what we have read online of others with this same type problem, we are not expecting helpful responses from either the dealer or Chrysler.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2011

While driving I first experienced premature tire wear and when I bought 4 new tires ($650 dollars) later, I noticed that there was a loud humming noise. I returned to the tire dealer and they replaced all four tires with a better tire but the noise continued. I then took my vehicle to the car dealer and they explained that I needed new brake pads, rotors and my wheel bearings needed to be replaced! what a shock! with only 31,000 miles, I needed all of this to be repaired.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that an abnormal grinding was heard from the brakes when depressed and caused the vehicle shake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer replaced the brakes, brake pads, bearings and the rotors. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied assistance with the repair. The failure mileage was 70,027 and the approximate mileage was 71,000. Kmj.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2011

I own a 2009 Chrysler town and country touring. I now have approximately 60,000 miles on it. We have had to replace the breaks several times. Shortly after replacing, the brakes have a high pitched squeal. We have been told that this is due to extra hard brake pads. Eventually, the pads warp due to extreme heat and the steering wheel vibrates when braking. We have replaced the brake pads at least four times since owning the vehicle. In addition, we have experienced a rough transmission. Most recently including stalling when stopping at highway exits. We believe both of these issues are causes for concern for safety.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2010

Just after a yr of driving and 20k miles my brakes were not feeling right. I took my van to the dealer and had the pads replaced. At 35 thousand I took the van back in because I had the same issue again. The dealer wanted to replace all the pads and turn rotors. I was not happy. The problem I was told got fixed in 2008. Not to mention the expense. I had the pads done and only front rotors done. In my experience of all 8 vehicles I've owned. Never had I need to replace the rear rotors. Maybe at 60k on my Dodge dakota. And I used it for heavy use. The van is driving to PA twice a yr from FL and orlando a lot. It seems to me there is a problem with the brakes on the 2009.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

Purchased 2009 Chrysler Town & Country new. Took to dealer at 19k miles because front rotors were so warped that it was unsafe to brake at highway speeds due to extreme shimmy of steering wheel. Was informed that "brakes" were only warranted for 12k miles so replacement cost would be on me. Called Chrysler customer assistance line to complain that the rotors wore out before the pads wore out, neither of which should have failed at 19k miles based on my driving characteristics--mostly highway miles, gentle breaking, etc. Chrysler agreed to cover the replacement cost. Shortly thereafter Chrysler issued an "extended warranty" on the t&c braking system but owner is responsible for a deductible depending on mileage. Vehicle now (9/2/11) has 35k miles and feeling pulsing when depressing brake pedal but not excessive. Took vehicle to dealer for unrelated issue and mentioned brake concern. They tell me that front brake pads and rotors need replaced and it will only cost me $100 deductible since Chrysler has extended warranty. I tell them to do the work since I'm concerned about safety of myself, my family, and other motorists. I call Chrysler and they think it is a great deal that it will only cost me $100. I understand that brake pads are designed to wear but when did rotors become a wear item, especially faster than the pads? all 4 pads had 8/32" life remaining--I have pictures. Chrysler had no good answer other than to quote me the language from the warranty booklet that they are only covered for 12k miles but that Chrysler recognizes an issue which is why they issued the "extended" warranty. They can warrant the power train for the life of the vehicle but they can't warrant the brake rotor for more than 12 months? this seems to me to be design negligence of a critical safety item and should be addressed more than just discounting the replacement every 16k miles. Ls.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2010

We had to replace rotors on our 2009 town and country van at 15,000 miles. We started to experience shaking in the front end when braking on the highway at less than 10,000 miles. At that point we were told that brake pads, etc were within normal limits. Finally at 15,000 we were told that the rotors needed to be replaced. Chrysler is offering to extend the 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty on the rotors with a $50 or $100 deductible. This appears to be a defective brake rotor and not a warranty issue as Chrysler is stating. Worse yet is that dealers are replacing the rotors with the exact same rotor! I was told by a Chrysler representatives that this is an item that is expected to experience normal wear and tear and, therefore, subject to limited warranties. In fact the letter that I received about the extended warranty for these rotors stated that "the brake performance is not affected in any way by this issue. " I disagree with this statement and consider it a safety recall matter that is being mishandled to Chrysler's advantage and the customer's disadvantage.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

Approximately three months ago, we started to notice a vibration when using the brakes. Receive a notice from Chrysler in July stating some town and country vans brake pads and or rotors may prematurely failed. Car had about 35,500 miles on it when we took it to the Chrysler dealer last month to check the brakes. Front and back brake pads had to be replaced, rotors only needed to be turned according to dealer. However, vibration still occurs when braking.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the brakes would pulsate abnormally and emit burning fumes into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced. The contact mentioned that within a two year period, she had to replace the rotors and brake pads a total of three times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 40,214.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

I own a 2009 Chrysler Town & Country lx which I purchased in December 2008. About 2 months ago I noticed a high pitched noise periodical coming from the van. When I lightly applied the brakes the noise went away. About a month ago the noise began occurring more regularly and for more prolonged periods of time. I took the vehicle in to the dealership from which I bought it a couple of times and described my problem to the service manger. He told me to drop by at the dealership when I noticed the sound occurring. On 3 occasions I tried to do that but when I got to the dealership the noise was no longer occurring. On Friday April 16th, I heard the noise and drove to the dealership. I noticed the service manager drive off in another van, so I followed him to see if I could catch him while the noise was occurring. When I pulled next to him at a traffic light, the noise was no longer happening. I spoke to him then left for home. When I arrived at home I smelled something and touched the rear wheel and found it extremely hot. I drove to the dealership and they pulled the van in for inspection. They found the "rear brake pads worn and dragging on rotors. Replaced rear brakes & resurfaced rotors. " that cost me $180. 88. The car only had 34,149 miles on the odometer. Although no accident occurred, it seems unreasonable for brakes and rotors to be so worn with such low mileage. Neither my wife nor are speedy drivers and do not drive aggressively, (jack-rabbit starts, tailgate, etc. ) I've never owned a car that needed brakes at such low mileage, yet I see no complaints or defect notices on your web-page. I thought it prudent to advise you of this issue before an accident occurred regarding similar issues with Chrysler brakes.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle did not stop. The contact used the emergency brake to stop. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the front rotors had overheated and warped. The dealer replaced the front rotors and brake pds. Two months later, the failure occurred again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who replaced the front rotors and brake pads. In August 2010, the failure occurred again. The front rotors and brake pads were replaced again. The failure occurred again January 2011 and the front brakes were cleaned. The same failure occurred again so the vehicle was taken to a different dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle needed new front rotors and brake pads. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 9,912 and the current mileage was 21,000.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) Chrysler town and country limited, vehicle [xxx] purchased 10/6/2008 front brakes failure 12/12/09. 15 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2009

We've had our 2009 Town & Country for about 3yrs. The brake problems started after a few months of use. They started off wobbling when stopping. I took it in for service, they said I just need my rotors turned. I asked them to replace them because we hadn't had the vehicle long enough to need our rotors turned. But they refused. While it did drive better, the vehicle never drove smooth again. I told them it's still not smooth but nothing was done. My husband (mechanic) has changed our brakes 4 times in 3 yrs. He changed the brakes a couple of months ago, two weeks later we had squealing and rubbing when stopping again. He decided to purchase brake pads from the dealership (very expensive) but when he went to put them on he discovered the brake pads weren't the problem. Apparently there's a problem with the ball bearings for which Chrysler has extended their warranty but won't extended a loaner car to it's "valued" customers for their inconvenience. Now we have to either be without a vehicle or pay money for a rental because chrylser sold us a faulty vehicle. Oh and the leather on my driver seat has cracked also. My husband's 10 yr old Ford isn't doing that.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

I have had the front brakes replace by Chrysler 3 time since June 2009 and the rotor once. I am currently experiencing a massive shutter when I apply the brakes at highway speeds (very dangerous). I contacted Chrysler and they told me the rotors are probably warped (again) and that they are no longer covered under warranty. I just had them done before 36k and now I'm at 50k. I purchased new wagner rotor and ceramic brake pads and installed them myself. First time out the shutter is still there. I contacted Chrysler again and told them the new equipment (per their recommendation) did not work. They told me to bring it in and for $95 they will try to figure out what is wrong. Surfing the internet and NHTSA info it sounds like a ton of people are having similar issues and there is no help from Chrysler or no recalls on the braking system. This system is dangerous and someone needs to step up and fix it. I have 2 small kids and I am afraid of drive/stopping this vehicle. The shuttering effects you ability to steer when trying to slow down to take an exit ramp on a highway. Someone out there help!!.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler town and country. While driving downhill at approximately 45 mph, the brakes were applied and the brake pedal began to abnormally pulsate. The dealer cleaned all four rotors yet the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the rotors and brake pads were replaced. The failure persisted and the rotors were replaced a second time but to no avail. In addition, the contact stated during icy weather conditions, the front windshield defroster would not defrost the entire front window. The dealer replaced one of the windshield wipers but the failure persisted while driving during icy conditions. There were no further repairs. The failure mileage was 2,400 and the current mileage was 22,700. Updated 9/22/10 the consumer stated the brakes have been replaced four times. Updated 09/24/10.
