Was driving home when headlights stopped working had to pull over . Drove home with no headlights was scary . Needs to be a recall on fixing this unsafe van.
While driving at night headlights flickered and then went out. After pulling over to sit for about 15 min, lights still didn't work. Couldn't drive at all. Next day tried lights during day time and worked. After 24 hours lights stopped working again. New bulbs are in place, no warning lights came in that lights were not working or a short was noted or an electrical system failure. Car is not throwing any electrical code failures either.

The headlights turned off while driving at night. They would not function if I used the remote to open the doors. They would turn on, then turn off on their own. I tried disconnecting the battery to reset. Worked a couple of times. But tonight it really scares me because they turned off while driving! I got home safely because it happpened close to home in the city.

Headlight stop working when driving at night and you can't get them to turn back on. It has happened 20 or more time to me. It has happened all ready on very dark roads in the country, on the highway other times, I was even pulled over from a police officer before telling me to put my lights on and I showed them they were on but weren't working again. But were working when I left my house. Then the next day they will work again with no problem and work for months then it does it again. You never know when it will happen, I'm afraid to take it out when it's dark out. But it's my only car and sometimes I have no choice but to go out at night and pray it won't happen again, it's very dangerous and a safety issue, and I have seen a lot of complaints for the same thing with other people as well so it's not just my van doing this. Something needs to be done before someone get seriously hurt or dies from this defect and the company ends up getting sued for not fixing this problem. If it was just my van doing it then I would think it was just a fluke thing, but when I have read it has happened to many other owners of the same kind of van then it is a defect that needs to be addressed and fixed before something awful happens to someone. And from what I have read some people said they were told it was something to do with the tipm which costs about $1200 or so to fix. Some people said they fixed that and it still continued to happen. . . I don't have $1200 to replace the tipm and the problem still doesn't get fixed or solve the problem. . . Ripoff having your headlights stop working on you on a dark road at night is not safe at all and is very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. While driving, the headlights failed without warning. The dealer stated that the tipm failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
While driving vehicle headlights will randomly shut off. Vehicle must be turned off and I need to try to get the lights to turn back on. Most times the vehicle needs to be left for a little while to reset. The lights randomly shut off regardless of stationary or moving. Please help!.
Headlights went out while driving. First during daylight; then at night while driving home. Dangerous and scary. Next days, the lights would work and then not work. Took van to dealership. Diagnosed as a faulty tipm that would cost $1275 to replace. What is sooo galling is reading about many, many, many, many other car owners who have had also been told to replace the tipm in a variety of Chrysler vehicles. Many of these stories are hair raising in the descriptions of danger--cars suddenly stopping on the highway, light going out on dark nights, wipers going nuts or quitting; horns blaring; terrified parents and children. Why no recall???? is Chrysler waiting until people are killed?? sad, sad commentary on this american product. I feel violated and unprotected as a consumer. It is troubling to be told we need to pay $1275 for a part that has been complained about to Chrysler for years and feel relieved that we weren't in a terrible car crash. Something is so not right here.
Headlights failed while on a drive in the country, at night, on a windy, mountainous road. Problem was traced to a faulty tipm at fairly low mileage. Very dangerous! my family was in the car, and we could've all been killed.
Over the last year I have had at least 6 instances where, when I start the vehicle after dark, the headlights will flash a number of times but will not stay on. On several occasions I was forced to drive home in the dark with no headlights because of this issue. I have listed the most recent incident.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. While driving various speeds, the headlights failed without warning. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I noticed at night my headlights would not stay on. They would come on and sometimes flash. Other times they would not even come on at all. Dealer said it is the tipm and that other things could start shutting down since this is all electrical. Now I am afraid to drive anywhere. I drive children the majority time I am driving and fear that something will shut down at anytime. I have seen that this tipm seems to be a common problem and a very costly fix. Don't understand why something has not been done to recall something like this.
While driving on a interstate 95 at approx 8:30 pm the headlights blinked then went out. I could not see I had to get off the road. I was over 2 hours from home. I had to drive with my hazards on until I could get a friend to meet me and I could follow them home with my hazards. I googled the issue many people have the same thing. My 2005 town and country had the same issue which is why I ended up trading it in. I was told by the dealer they never heard of what has happened it would cost $90 to diagnose. I asked if I paid for what they think would fix it and it doesn't repair do I get the money back the answer was no. From what I have read many people have had this issue and some paid to get work done and it didn't resolve the issue. Driving a Mini van with children without headlights is a major safety issue even during the day if it is raining. I drive with my headlights on all the time to make myself more visible to other drivers. My headlights failing could have caused a serious accident and death!.
I have a 2010 Chrysler town and country minivan. I have no headlights in vehicle. When I drive at night I have to use my hazards for other vehicles to see me. I took it to my local mechanic and it was diagnosed as a bad fuse box or module as they call it (mechanic googled the problem for 2010 Chrysler town and country no headlights - read the responses!!). The part to fix my vehicle lists from Chrysler for $819. 05 but it is not available because it is backordered on the Chrysler parts system, it looks like other people are having this same problem. So now I have to drive my wife and 3 kids in a vehicle with no headlights because the vehicle I drive is a Ford e-250 cargo van with only 2 seats. What am I supposed to do?? I spent $40,000+ on a vehicle and this is another problem I have had with vehicle (radio, warped disc on brakes and of course the key issues everyone talks about). I talked to Chrysler and they said maybe they could expedite the part but I said why do I have to pay to fix their problems. Customer rep "was sorry I felt this way" and that there has been no reported issues regarding this (I find this hard to believe with backlog of parts). What should I do? not drive my vehicle at night anymore? who going to pay to fix this? no injury or fatality yet but what are my chances since I have to drive at night with no headlights and no way to fix them??.
Upon starting the car, particularly on damp and/or cold mornings, the electrical system goes haywire. There is no power to the dash, the headlights blink on and off, the locks stop working, the wipers go on by themselves and remain on for the duration of the event. This happens whether the car is parked or in motion. It is not known whether this is impacting the air bags; the fuel gauge reads zero, so it's not known if this will impact the car's ability to continue running; it is also a major distraction if trying to drive. The duration varies, from one minute to 20 minutes. . Read more...
It was about 5:30 in the morning and was driving to work. Both headlights quit working. I had to pull over because I couldn't see anything. I had to wait till daylight before I could drive again. Didn't want to cause an accident. Both headlights finally came back on around 730am. I'm not comfortable driving the vehicle while it is dark, don't want the headlights to go out again.
We are experiencing the same problems as identified in the below investigation. Date investigation opened: Sep 25, 2014 date investigation closed: open NHTSA action number: dp14004 component(s): electrical system the car's headlights will either not turn on or will turn off while driving. We have brought it to the dealership numerous times and they weren't able to reproduce the problem(although they saw many tipm error codes. It finally occurred again last week and my wife rushed to the dealership and needed to let the car run for two hours since the technician was busy and we didn't want to risk them not seeing it occur. They have determined it to be a failing tipm module and the part is currently on backorder with no estimated delivery date. We can no longer use the car due to safety concerns and are feverously waiting on the replacement part. Driving on a highway at night and losing your lights, not a good thing.
Van has wireless ignition system problems. Van has intermittent shut off, van has intermittent no start issues. Van has intermittent warning cluster, wiper, gauges, and headlight shut off and on problems. Van is dangerous to my fam. And others!!!!!!! found recall l-25 but this is fraud recal; only installing rubber ring on win module. Chrysler must service all vehicles with these problems ASAP before they get in more lawsuits and kill more people. Chrysler has case number: s10008000021 release date: 9/7/10 involves wiper, gauge, lighting and cluster problems that is happening to thousands of their units. Also bulletin #: 08-025-11 5/27/11 involves problems with wireless ignition system that is happening to thousands of their units.
The headlights dim, the radio stops, the four lights directly over the speedometer come on and off, the speedometer drops to zero when the dummy lights come on. Periodically the vehicle shuts of as it is moving. This all started happening after the NHTSA campaign #11v139000 recall on the ignition was replaced. It has been to three separate Chrysler dealers a total of seven times. It has been out of service for more than 30 days. Neither Chrysler nor the dealer wants to resolve this problem. They want to sell me a new car!.
Soon after purchasing the minivan, the headlights began to cut out intermittently. At first, it was only during the summer when the weather was very warm and humid. In addition, we found that if we started the minivan and lights worked they would stay on throughout our drive but that soon changed. . . The lights cut out on us one night after driving for about a half an hour. This was extremely dangerous because we were on the highway and it was very dark. We tried to bring this issue up to our dealership and they claimed that our car did not have this problem. Now, our minivan lights do not work at all. . . They flicker or flash three times like they are trying to come on but never actually turn on. This has happened many times!.
Headlights did not come on at night after starting engine. This has happened multiple times over the past several months. It is intermittent and the lights will be normal for a week or two or three and then the problem occurs again. Several hours or the next morning after a problem all is normal. Sometimes after starting the headlights flash on and off. We are afraid to be away from home at night in this van. After reading the numerous similar complaints and considering the safety implications with this problem I am amazed that there has been no recall.
Driving and suddenly the headlights start flickering on and off and bright and dim. It was happening individually, so one light may be on and the other one off. Finally they both stopped and it was only the parking lights and fog lights working. Nothing would make them work. Drove later that same night and it was fine until I turned my lights on bright. Wife almost had a wreck when the lights went completely out and would not come back on. Chrysler needs to identify this problem and recall or extend free repairs for this ASAP before a fatal accident.
The headlights failed while driving my 2010 t&c van at night. Dealer determined the tipm module to be defective. There are over 300 of these modules on back order in the USA. This has been a known problem of headlight failure while driving the t&c van since about 2006. The dealer could not provide me a date the replacement module would be available, but I had to pay $663. 89 up front for them to order it. The headlights will not work at all now with this defective module. I now have a day time, clear day only van since my state required headlights when driving in the rain.
