general problems of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country - part 1

It stalls to turn on even when I changed everything from, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, heater pumps, alternator, new battery. And it still won’t turn on it’s been happening for 4 months now. And I changed things that were recommended. I do my oil change every time I need as well.

My vehicle has overheating problems ever since I have had it. I have had the thermostat replaced. The sensor thermostat replaced. The radiator flushed and had several shops look at it yet they could find nothing wrong but I go through antifreeze like crazy. At least 1 gallon every month. The temp reads 100 - 180 on hot days and it gets super hot.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under TSB number: d-14-12 because the TSB had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,564.

I wrote before about the electrical issue. My husband jumped started my car on 8/28/24. I drove down to my church for a women's bible study. I was there for 2 1/2 hours. When I went to leave my car would not start. I called my son. He jump started my car for me. As I was about to leave after a few minutes my car quit running. As the car was running every electrical component on the dash was going haywire, the heater fan was going full blast, but the windows would not go up. That was irritating as it started to rain. Had to cover the windows. Left the car in parking lot. Next day after church my husband tried to start the car. The car turned over and the battery light was on. Brande new battery was put in that week, as the following we thought that might have been the problem. He jumped started the car same thing as before. We had to have the car flat bedded to the mechanic. The mechanic tested the new alternator that was just put in and said it was bad. Replaced the alternator and car ran. He wanted to see what would happen so he kept car over night. Next morning car would not start. All fuses have been checked, fuse box has been checked. Nobody can seem to figure out what is going on with this vehicle. I have spent over $2000. An to no avail. I am ready to junk this thing. Mu dad said their was a caravan for sale I just read they have electrical issues also no way.

The vehicle had a recall that was not satisfied before expiration. The vehicle currently has only 92,135 miles. The car would stall out while driving down the road. The head was manufactured to thin, cylinder misfire. It was very unsafe going up and down the mountains in our area especially. It would not shift after going down an incline. So have to pull over and restart. I called and made a complaint before. We finally saved up enough to pay for the work. I have a receipt for $3219. 76. The Chrysler recall bulletin is 09-002-14. I contacted Chrysler they just put me to all different people and no one knows. This was a very dangerous situation to drive.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 186,000.

The fuel pump is sporadically not getting power. This has left me stranded multiple times. I’m worried that this could happen while driving on the interstate and causing an accident.

During random times; starting cold, starting warm, coming to a stop, accelarating, on city surface streets or on the freeway, after long drives or just going down the street; the minivan would stall and not restart. Fortunately able to coast to side of road on occassion. Non start condition would last between 15 minutes to days. This last event occured while turning in a busy intersection. Blocked cars and buses in all four directions on a Friday afternoon rush hour, putting ourselves and others at serious risk. There were no warning lights or anything other than a brief shudder before stalling. Roadside service called 911 first to get us out of the way. Towed to local mechanic who duplicated event and found that two separate recalls for faulty fuel pump relay was issued for other models but not our minivan. This family vehicle is now a liability if the fuel pump relay replacement is not made available to us.

Driving 70mph on the interstate when the engine just shuts down ( sudden engine failure ) it is only by the grace of god that it didn't result in a pile-up and injury/loss of life. One of the most fearful experiences that I have ever had happened to me. This is the 2nd instance of sudden engine failure in the past month. On each occasion, I have had the vehicle towed and the mechanics are unable to find the root cause of the problem. I now fear injury/loss of life to myself and or others. I tried calling Chrysler to no avail and I have sent a cercertifiedtter to the Chrysler ceo , hristine feuell with no response so far.

As a result, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver then the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that he was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump relay needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 275,000.

"p0740" obd2 code, causing vehicle to fail state safety inspection. Issue is due to a defect within the transmission, very common with the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. "dealer only repair" , very costly. Serious safety issue. Vehicle cannot be diagnosed by most certified mechanics. This faulty reading could mask very serious issues with the transmission. This issue needs to be expedited to review ASAP. Thank you.

2011 Chrysler town and country, starts then shuts off after two seconds. Check engine light came on last night. Remote start disabled. Vehicle will not start via push button, must use key fob in place of pushbutton. Again remote start will not work. Vehicle starts and shuts off right away. From research done, cause being tipm or fuel relay.

There is a problem with the engine oil cooler leaking oil on the engine creating a smell of oil burning which is not good to breathe, plus the danger of the engine catching on fire. I am filing this report on 11/28/2021. I replaced this part the first time in July of 2021 and it is once again leaking in November 2021 already. Prior to replacing it the first time, I did some research on the internet only to find that this is common problem with this oil cooler used in Chrysler engines. (3. 6 l) I would think that Chrysler is a ware of this problem. I don't have the first part that failed, but the replacement is leaking also. I have not had this inspected, but as I have already mentioned, there a lot of complaints on the internet of people having this problem. The part Chrysler is using has a plastic base, and the plastic is apparently breaking down. There is an aftermarket replacement available and they describe the problem with the one that Chrysler uses and what they did to correct it. The replaced plastic part with metal.

Tipm is defective causing the car hard starting and stall. The fuel pump relay stays on draining the new battery . The car starts then shuts down after 2 seconds. The sliding doors open and close, horn stops, car alarm stops intermittently. I had to temporarily bypass the fuel pump relay. The cost of the tipm replacement is $1500.

The contact’s daughter owns a 2011 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated while driving 25 mph up an incline, the vehicle stalled without warning. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to his home where he inspected the vehicle. The contact discovered that the totally integrated power module (tipm) was defective and needed to be replaced. The contact spoke to an independent mechanic who informed him that there was no recall on the vehicle and that he was unaware of any issues with the tipm. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the window glass fell into the door abruptly. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined that the failure occurred due to an internal door fracture. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated while driving and turning the steering wheel, the steering wheel made an abnormally loud squealing sound. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle had difficulty starting, and there was an abnormal amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The check engine warning light and the electronic throttle control warning light were illuminated. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 174,098.

This must be a recall concern. Chrysler really needs to step up and take care of this tipm issue. The most common problem was a defective tipm that prevented the engine from starting. This van fails while the car was being driven. Today 1-4-21, the van is again at the dealership for repairs for the same issue again and again I can't believe it. The Town & Country would be running smoothly one day and fail to start the next day. Why recall concerning them was never issued????.

Wife was driving. Then engine went to full throttle, would not slow down. She rode the brakes all the way home, switched from neutral to drive, van would jump into gear when she would shift back to drive, felt like brakes were not working well enough (probably glazed). Almost wrecked, could hardly stop. Very dangerous situation.

I don't know much about vehicles. So when I get the obd scanned to make sure things are good to sell my van and it throws back many error codes, I was surprised. I thought the vibration/shaking was minor or just because I only had 4 out 6 engine mounts replaced. I was told the tipm was bad, the transmission, the tire pressure sensors don't work. The eco drive doesn't work. I was told that there was a problem with mine that was recalled but only on half of the vehicles and my VIN wasn't one of them recalled even though it's the same problem. I was told the main fuse panel under the hood needs replaced. From what I was told, all the needed repairs will cost about as much as I paid for the vehicle itself. There have been lights on the dash since a few days after I bought it but the obd didn't want to put out any reading. I named her christine because she seems to have a mind of her own. The rpm's go sky high whenever they feel like it so I often have to pull over, turn it off and wait about 5 minutes. I didn't know where to turn to get help with this before it nickel and dimes me into the even more poor house.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine's number two cylinder was faulty and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. Oxmoor Dodge (4520 shelbyville rd, louisville, ky) and the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 130,000.

Tipm failure, faulty fuel pump relay. Car cranks but will not start. Fuel pump replaced and same issue occurs.

Van battery is dead every morning. Fuel pump countinously runs even after van is turned off. Sometimes stales while driving. Very dangerous especially with our children in the van.

On November 14, 2019 I was traveling with my 18 year old son to detroit metro airport. We were entering the entrance ramp of I-94 & us 23. We were traveling at 65mph. As I was merging onto i94 traffic, my 2011 Town & Country lost all power. The car completely shut down. I was unable to steer the car, brake the car. I was fortunately not involved in an accident. I am noting that the only key(fob) on the key ring was the key fob it self. Prior to this incident (past 8 years we've owned this vehicle) we have never encountered such an incident. The van did require a tow and we are currently waiting on the problem that caused this incident from the Chrysler dealership in saline, mi (lafontaine Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram saline) phone # 1-866-593-6805. The reason I'm filing this complaint is due to noticing several thousand similar incidents from various chat forums. The key fob seems to be a point of interest as to why the vehicle all of a sudden loses power and shuts down in the act of driving. I came to a complete stop, shifted the vehicle in park, the vehicle's back up camera came on and it had the r illuminated, indicating it was in reverse. I tried to slowly step on the gas but it would not move. I tried to shift to another gear and it would not shift, I shut the van off, waited a few minutes and restarted it. I then was able to slowly shift to drive and slowly back to park and shut vehicle off. It has a hard time shifting in lower gears as well while driving, when you do put the vehicle into reverse it feels like it drops very hard into that gear. No codes stored.

My van without warning started running rought in drive, shaking, engine light came on blinking fast took it to mechanic. It shows all cyclinders have severe misfiring issues. They can not figure out why and told me to take to Chrysler dealership. This van runs crappy has no power to get to dealership. I was on a city street trying to drive 20 miles an hour it would not hardly move. I turned around and took it home it was fine up until this happened. This could have been something very dangerous if I was on a highway in heavy traffic.

Traveling on 2 lane road across a bridge at 35 mph when all dash lights came on then all off and engine died which caused power steering loss and power brake loss, no power at all in vehicle stranded on side of road. This could have caused a bad accident had there been more traffic. This was caused by the pcm (engine computer) failing. I see that this is a frequent occurence with this vehicle.

The contact called the manufacturer who assigned her a case and said they would escalate the issue and call back. They did not call back and when contacted called the manufacturer stated that they can't help with the expenses since there was no recall. The failure mileage was 101,000. Tf.

The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated upon depression of the accelerator pedal with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had to be jump started to resume normal driving operation. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on multiple occasions where the computer, two alternators, and two batteries were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the repairs were performed; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 167,000.

The vehicle was taken to renton Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (585 rainier Ave s, renton, wa 98057) where they stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was currently at the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000.

As we drive the van will shut off. We experience loss of power steering, brakes, and all other functions. It will happen on the highway and city streets. Both low and high speeds. It has put me and my family at great danger! it has happened multiple times. Regardless of fuel levels, or outside temperature. We have had it in our local dealership many times, with no resolution.

We started having issues with my van a couple months ago. Thought it was the fuel pump, so we replaced it. Still had problems. But much worse! van wouldn't start. And 3. 5 hours later my fuel pump was still running. Did some further looking into it. Come to find out the tipm needs replaced (or just the relay). So looking into the system more, the tipm has caused the starter to not start. It is sitting in my garage until we can get the tipm work done. Not very safe. Very mad! I still owe money on this car and now we dont have a car big enough for the family. I will never buy Chrysler cars again!!! this has been the worst 7 months with this car!!!!.

Head gasket and the heat wont work,it comes on but no heat the system comes on by itself- heat and air.

Engine died, battery light came on, brake light, electrical system and engine died while driving on a state road.

Vehicle will start but engine quits within seconds, key is still in on position. Turn key off and restart, stays on but computer has reset. This has happened 3 times this week.

My wife and I were driving the vehicle when all of a sudden it just completely died. We had no brakes no steering no power anywhere. Thank god we were only going 40 miles an hour and were able to cruise to a stop. Apparently this also happened to my wife earlier in the day. We have only had the car for about a week. But after doing some research apparently were not the only ones having a problem with this vehicle doing this. This needs to be fixed before someone either gets hurt or killed. We are taking it to a chevy dealership tomorrow to get it looked at. If I'm right though its some type of module that Chrysler is very aware of that's faulty.
