Engine Shut Off Without Warning problems of the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country

Vehicle shuts off while driving shutting down all power controls.

Traction control light came on and engine shut off while driving around 30 miles per hour after just starting about 20 minutes after shut off and listening to radio with key in accessory position lost brakes and steering. Traction control would not come back on till I stopped 10 miles after restarting and turned off. Only came back on with engine not on.

Engine shuts off while driving and all electrical goes out while driving. Typically van restarts fine but does it again while driving.

Was on my way to work and when I had stopped at a stop sign the engine shut off. I had not touched any button or anything else. If this were to happen while someone was driving it would be a very big issue.

When we are driving on streets, the power shuts off. I can barely pull over since the power steering shuts off. There is no lights or anything. Car must be shut off and turned back on to fix the problem. I have 2 children under 2 and I am so worried about getting rear ended. Luckily it's never happened on a highway. The dealership basically said it's not their problem. Mechanics cant figure out why it shuts off . It only happened once when we bought it in the fall. Now that its warm it happens a lot.

Our Town & Country turns off while driving. Soon after it has been turned on. It has happened at low speeds and while at a stop. Once it shuts off, it won't restart until sitting for several hours. Both our local car mechanic and the Chrysler dealership have inspected the car and can't find anything wrong. No error codes show up. Thankfully it has only happened while I've been in relatively safe situations, like parking lots or backing out of my garage. But the safety concerns are huge, if this happens in an intersection or highway. There was a formal investigation done in 2014 with regards to the timp, of which the town and country was ultimately not included. Attched are repair invoices from both our mechanic and from the Chrysler dealership.

When driving the engine shuts down and and I loose control of my brakes and steering.

My Town & Country shuts down while I am driving. There is no pattern to when it shuts down. I may drive 20 miles with no problem and other times it will shut down 1 or 2 times within that distance. Had it to the Chrysler certified dealer for repairs and $1400 later the problem was still there. . This problem is been going on for couple months and no one has been able to resolve the issue. Not even the Chrysler. I am scared to drive the car and had a car accident.

The vehicle I have shuts down while I am driving. The Chrysler dealership has tried to fix the problem but has not been able to fix it. 1. The following actions were performed by the mechanic software update engine control unit on 26 January 2017 but this did not fix it the problem and kept shutting while driving. 66. 60 euros. 2. Mechanic test drove vehicle and since the problem did not occur asked us to bring the vehicle back in a week. Problem not fix. 3. On 16 March 2017 the vehicle was taken back to Chrysler dealership. Read error memory, error code; kw-NW sensor faulty. Fuses, connectors, control unit verified evap system checks wiring verified vtt test performed. Crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, sealant suction bridge thickening, motors oi 5w 30 replaced. This did not fix the problem. 305,23 euros spent. 4. Spark plugs replaced on 7 April 2017 but this did not fix the problem. 192,74 euros spent. Then I left my vehicle for 11 days in the Chrysler dealership from 18 April to 28 April. Engine pressure check camshafts and crankshaft sensor and reprogrammed vehicle. Also, they told me that they took apart the evc and welded a cable. 85 euros spent. The following day the car shut off while driving again. I had asked the dealership what I needed to do if the vehicle shut off again. They told me to sell the car or junk it. I asked how I can sell a defective vehicle that's 5 years old? they told me to contact Chrysler customer care. I am awaiting answer from Chrysler customer care. Reference number 35128943. I have almost had accidents because of this and inform Chrysler this. Should I be seeking legal action against Chrysler? should Chrysler buy my vehicle back? what are my options? I am currently living in germany but purchase the vehicle in the USA.

When driving the vehicle this morning at approximately 7 a. M. Period on major road in lake orion michigan when driving in approximately 40 miles per hour. The car shut down, turned off. Steering wheel locked up. While daughter was in the car also. Had to pull off in the middle of the major road. No codes appeared on the dash. Full tank of gas. Just had the oil changed the day before. At friendly Chevrolet in lapeer michigan. Already notified the dealership. They advised with no codes not sure if they can help out at all. They were very helpful though. And courteous.

While driving down the interstate at approximately 70mph my van completely lost power and the engine shut off. This created an extremely dangerous situation to me and my family. If I had not have been in the lane closest to the shoulder the end results would not have been in our favor. I believe that it may be the egnition switch or something electrical related.

While driving appx 60mph on the highway the vehicle lost all power, lights, steering and engine shut off. It was appx 1030 at night with no street lights around and my husband thankfully was able to maintain control and his composure in order to coast the vehicle off onto the side of the road. We could not see where we were going as it was pitch dark outside and he was able to feel the gravel under the tires and prayed that he was successfully off the roadway enough to prevent being hit by oncoming traffic. We had our 6 month old baby girl secured in her car seat in the second row captain seat and I tried to get her sliding door open in order to get her out of the vehicle and out of harms way since we were barely pulled off the roadway, but the sliding door would not even open. I had to crawl into the back of the van and remove her through the passenger side front door. The dash lights would blink intermittently but we were not even able to get the hazard lights on. We made multiple attempts to turn the car on, pressing every button on the key fab to try to get the vehicle working again. No luck. Thankfully the sheriff's office arrived and they provided proper lights and flares to alert other drivers of the disabled vehicle. Once the tow truck arrived we disconnected the battery which stopped the sporadic blinking of the dash lights and then reconnected the battery appx 5 seconds later and the vehicle started up no problems. We were able to drive the van home with the sheriff's following us for safety. Overall, this experience with the vehicle loosing all power while driving down the road was terrifying. Thankfully we were on a fairly straight stretch of highway where the shoulder was wide enough to accommodate a vehicle. Had this occurred on a narrow backroad or even a curvy or hilly or busy interstate or highway a more dismal outcome would have occurred.

While driving, car shuts off, has happened 4 times while driving. Had it diagnosed and was told it was a faulty cam/crankshaft sensors.

As I was driving down the highway at approximately 70mph, my vehicle lost all power. It was so abrupt that it felt as if I had been rear ended. I had no power steering, and all electrical components of my van shut off. I attempted to steer towards the shoulder, and my van regained power. The dash lights flashed twice and then I had full power. The van then again had all lights shut off and it shut off. This second occurrence was quicker than the first, and the power flashed back on after a few seconds. I exited with the van off the highway and had it towed. The dealership drove the vehicle, but was unable to replicate the problem so they could not repair it. They do not know why it happened or if/when it will happen again, but they are unwilling to purchase the car back from me.
