1 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2025

I was sitting in my parked vehicle in my driveway with vehicle turned off, talking on my cellphone and just adjusted the headrest and the headrest popped out like a bang, since I was leaned over I missed gettting hit. My extended warranty was up in July of this year, and was never told from my Chrysler dealership I get maintenance from was told there was a faulty headrest design.

2 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2025

Passenger side active head rest deployed suddenly while driving down the road on a hot day (90 degrees with heat factor 100+) called dealer and they stated extended coverage for this expired June 13. This happened on July 28. They want to order parts, approx 170 usd and charge 108 usd labor. This is a common problem because of manufacturing with inferior plastic parts and it is violent when it pops apart unexpectedly.

3 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

The passenger side active head restraints (ahrs) deployed unexpectedly while the van was unoccupied inside our garage. Upon investigation the metal latch bar was still in it's undeployed location (latched into the head rest) but there were visible plastic parts missing on the other portion of the headrest. It appears that the plastic clamps had broken at some point and caused the ahr to deploy - luckily nobody was in that seat at the time. The ahr was unable to be reset so a replacement headrest has been ordered for installation.

4 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2025

Passenger front head rest exploded/ejected while pulling into driveway.

5 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2024

Drivers side headrest popped open while I was driving and yes it is available for inspection. Prior to this (several months), the passenger side headrest did the same thing while a passenger was in the seat. *when the headrest deployed/opened, it hit me in the back of the head. . . No, there were no warnings.

6 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2024

The head restraint (ahr) on the driver's seat opened, without warning, striking the back of my head with considerable force. I was startled and momentarily dazed, as a result. The vehicle was parked at the time, so no impact or collision was involved. The head restraint has not been repaired and is available for inspection. I have seen many reports of the same problem with numerous other vehicles. The manufacturers should be responsible for the repairs. Thank you!.

7 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2024

Driving on a highway with my teenager sitting in the front passernger seat when all of a sudden we heard a loud pop and the headrest hit the back of my teenagers head. It was like an explosion. Fortunalty my teenager was looking down and said it didn't hurt them. Yes it is available for inspection. Someone could get a concussion given the force that headrest popped so forcefully. I have not taken it to a Chrysler dealer since it sounds like they dont do anything for it. No warnings.

8 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2024

Minivan was parked in our driveway and we heard a loud bang. The driver side headrest had spontaneously sprung open. Van has never been in an accident.

9 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

With normal use, no accident has occurred both front driver and passenger active headrest have deployed due to faulty plastic casing. One side, front passenger occured with occupant pulling on headrest to enter vehicle in the middle row. One , front driver side, occured when a shopping bag gently bumped the headrest while being removed from the middle row behind the seat. They will not "click" back into place because of a broken piece. If this deployed while driving, rather than casual contact (not rough contact!) it would cause injury to the neck or confusion in a driver to no longer be alert.

10 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2024

The driver's side headrest deployed while driving. My husband was driving on [xxx] at about 70-75 mph, when his headrest suddenly and unexpectedly burst open. This is a serious safety hazard. He said it felt like he got punched in the back of the head and was startled. Thankfully he didn't lose control of the vehicle and avoided an accident. It appears some plastic inside the headrest broke, causing it to deploy when it shouldn't have. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

11 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2024

I parked my car in the driveway, turned off the engine and exited the vehicle. Before I closed the driver's side door, the front right headrest went off like the vehicle was in an accident. The corresponding air bag did not deploy. I inspected the headrest noticing pieces of plastic had broken off and others were bent. I attempted to reset the headset following the recommended procedure. Because of the broken/bent pieces of plastic, the headrest cannot be reset.

12 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2024

I was driving down the highway and there was a loud bang and something hit me in the back of my head. It felt like something was thrown and me with significant force from behind. The headrest exploded for no apparent reason while we were traveling 65 miles per hr and threw me forward as I was driving. This could have caused serious harm to me personally or could have caused an accident and harm to other vehicles or my daughter that was riding in the passenger seat.

13 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2024

The passenger side headrest popped forward while parked in parking lot.

14 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

2015 Chrysler town and country. Black "leather". Right front passenger headrest. I was loading something into the right sliding door when my elbow bumped the headrest. It was slight enough that I thought nothing of it, but when my passenger got into the r/f seat, the headrest was thrust forward. We attempted to "reset" it but it would not latch in the back position. Upon assessment, we found the plastic "latches" broken. This is a design or quality problem with safety implications and Chrysler needs to replace this headrest in affected vehicles. There are several reports in the 2014-2015 model years with this issue. It should be a safety recall. Some complaints are that the parts are on backorder. This cannot be allowed. Chrysler should be held accountable.

15 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2024

When moving the front seats, unexpectedly, the front headrest, engaged and moved forward violently. Unable to move it back to its original position.

16 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2023

The middle row seats headrest will not latch the headrest just drops down and it could fall off and hurt someone if we were to get into a crash. We can not use that seat with a headrest that is faulty.

17 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2023

Car was parked and I was standing outside the front passenger door. When I pulled the seat recline lever, the seat back shot forward quickly and the headrest exploded open. I cannot push it back into place or take the headrest out. It is available for inspection, however I need to get it fixed for safety concerns ASAP. Anyone sitting in the passenger seat cannot keep their head in proper alignment, over their shoulders. Their head is forced forward. Not only uncomfortable, but mechanically unsafe. There was no warning lights or known malfunctions prior to the incident.

18 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2023

Headrest opened driving down the road and broke the plastic clips, now I have a loose headrest.

19 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2023

While the car was parked in the garage, person sat in the passenger seat and buckled, leaned back against the headrest and the headrest impact function triggered, pushing fully forward. Following Chrysler’s instructions on resetting it, I found the plastic locking mechanism was completely broken off.

20 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2023

I had to take my car to the dealership about 2 years ago for my headrest popping out and the said there was a recall then. I want to know if there still is a recall because my passenger headrest has done the same thing. Also my blindspot warning is not working. Also my video system does not work.

21 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2023

Both headrests in the vehicle have malfunctioned and popped without the occurrence of an accident. The headrests are broken and cannot be reset in their proper functioning position. Therefore, it poses a safety hazard for occupants. The components have not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else other than the owner of the vehicle. There are no indicators denoted the issue.

22 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2022

The passenger front seat active headrest deployed while car was parked for no reason.

23 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2022

The front passenger side headrest exploded forward while parked and it cannot be reset. It appears that plastic clips inside of the headrest snapped. The fact that the same type of headrest is installed on the drive side is extremely concerning because should it malfunction the same way while driving myself of my children could become involved in an accident when it hits the drive in the back of the head while on the road. There was no jolt or warning whatsoever we head a popping sound while the vehicle was parked and the headrest shot forward with extreme force.

24 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2022

Headrest came apart. Metal rod held by plastic gave way and now the rod cannot stay in the plastic housing correctly. Plastic is broke on both ends of the metal rod.

25 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2022

Driver side active head restraint popped open. The air bag did not deploy but the plastic tabs holding it together broke inside.

26 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

Front passenger active head restraint (headrest) activated without a collision event.

27 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2022

I was just driving down the road and noticed my headset was pushing out toward my head. Upon inspection, it had been deployed but there was no accident that caused it. It is now pressing against my head all the time while I am driving and cannot be pushed back to normal position. Many news reports on this happening in all us cities: https://abc11. Com/headrest-deploy-malfunction-safety-troubleshooter/5908516/ the repair estimates are between $700-$900, but those that report it to the local news station the manufacturer sometimes fixes it for free! this should be recalled! help!.

28 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2022

Unprompted, the active head restraint(headrest) deployed.

29 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2022

Was driving down the road and the front passenger seat headrest blew apart for no reason at all.

30 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

Car passenger headrest is deployed and cylinder 6 is misfiring as described under the recall description from the previous years vehicles recalls.

31 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2022

On 5/22/22 at 88,530 miles, we were stopped at a light - no accident! the passenger side seat headrest exploded forwarded, hitting my wife in the head, causing her extreme neck/back pain. She is seeing doctor regarding her neck/back.

32 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2022

Passenger side air activated head rest engaged with piston intact. Plastic holding piece broke apart. Now the headrest is apart and there is no head restraint on the passenger side this it is a health and safety issue.

33 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2022

The drivers head rest deployed while my vehicle was parked at home overnight. This vehicle is equiped with active head restrain and is supposed to deploy in case of a rear ended accident.

34 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2021

On 10/13/2021 the front passenger seat headrest activated for no apparent reason. The van was at a complete stop. After inspecting the headrest I determined the plastic had broke and allowed the headrest to spring forward. The rod that locks the headrest in the normal position was still in the clamp indicating that the computer did not activate the headrest. The plastic holding the rod broke. Luckily the passenger was leaning up preparing to exit the vehicle so the headrest did not hit him in the back of the head. I called the dealer and asked if there was a recall for this issue and they indicated there was not. I believe this is an extremely unsafe incident and am afraid that the driver’s side might be next. I believe it could cause serious head and neck injuries if falsely activated. I have researched and found many complaints about the same issue. I have temporarily put a strap on the headrest to hold it closed.

35 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2021

The head rest deployed.
