general problems of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country - part 2

The sliding door lock actuators are faulty and will not allow the door to open even manually. This is a huge issue in the event of an emergency to get children out of the back of the car.

The driver side rear sliding door has stopped working. You cannot get it to open manually or through the push of a button. We have tried pushing the button beside the door panel itself, pushing the button in the front by the windshield (where the buttons for the other doors are located and working fine), tried opening it manually from within the vehicle, and manually from outside of the vehicle. It will not budge.

Greetings, my name is [xxx], age 27. I am a young single mother of two children, and as I felt like I was truly blessed to get any car that would be reliable to take me to work. Unfortunately, I was leased a 2016 Chrysler town country vehicle, as I still owe $11,000 after making monthly payments of $367. 00 since may 13th, 2021. , with a $4,200 payment down. What I thought was a blessing for my situation, but in reality it was a predatorial loan in disguises from the contra costa county, public auto auction. As I only had this car for 5 months, I am now seeming to be extremely frustrated that I am being charged $500. 00 to get my car serviced, as Chrysler dealership is the only reliable source to service this vehicle due to the complication of their being a specific machine to add transmission fluid into the transmission. There is a check engine light exact for my transmission sensors, but it actually needs to be changed immediately. Due to my financial hardship that coivd has caused me as a young single mother, I am unable to pay for this unknown excessive charge for the proper service. This is causing a huge delay within trying to get this problem fixed before the transmission ends up blowing out on me. I was also informed that I would not be eligible to get a rental in return for the amount of days that it will take to get an appointment at a Chrysler dealership. My driver side passenger van door won’t open. It won’t open when pulled open. The keyfob can’t open it. The button in the van won’t open it.

The sliding door behind the driver's seat will not open. It is an automatic door that can also be opened manually. I'm unable to open the door at this time. This is a safety issue because it is preventing exit from the vehicle. The light on the button to open that sliding door is not working as well. There have been no other indications as to why this is not working properly.

Left drivers door, sliding door makes a loud buzzing sound it will sometimes not open manually and automatically , kids could not get out of van by the door bringing to Chrysler dealershipon July 19, I know there have been many complaints to this issue something needs to be done quickly!!!! when you press lick button for van , even when not moving it still locks up and doesnt open sometimes.

Stopped at a light and the engine stalled. Radio (uconnect system) turned off but dash lights still in operating order. I had to put the car in park and restart the ignition. It started right up at that point.

Driver side sliding door buzzes when locking/unlocking door. Was told by dealership it is a bad actuator and will soon fail completely leaving the door permanently locked or unlocked.

Driver side rear sliding door is inoperable in the locked and closed position creating safety concerns for second and third row passengers,.

The passenger sliding door becomes permanently locked preventing you from opening the door, from the outside or manually, to access your children. Fortunately for us we were not in an accident when this happened and I was able to use the other door. This is a very common issue for the town and country vans and there needs to be a recall on the door actuators used before someones child is prevented from exiting a vehicle in an emergency. I am having the door repaired by west richland automotive and they have confirmed a faulty actuator. There were not any warning lamps or messages prior to the door locking itself.

Back sliding door wouldn't open.

It has happened twice now the my 2016 town and country has turned off out of no where. The first time I was just getting off the freeway and the whole car lost power in strang way and the string wheel locked up.

Early 2021 the driver's side sliding door would not open from the outside or from the inside. At this time the passenger side sliding door was working. In may 2021 I took it to an independent service facility. They replaced the door latch assembly and checked the wiring. The door then opened and closed inconsistently. I took it back and this time it worked by using the key fob, the door button and the above dash button; but when opening it manually it did not slide on its own. Also at this time the passenger side door stayed in an unlocked position and could be opened when all doors were supposed to be locked. Sometimes the door alarm would go off when it was opened this way and sometimes it didn't. At this point I took it to the dealership (7-29-2021). I was told the prior service center used a mopar part and they would put it under warranty and replace it but I would be charged for labor. The passenger side door latch assembly would also have to be replaced, bringing the total to over $1,900. Estimated date of completion is 8-3-2021. This is definitely a safety problem since the door could not be opened from the inside and passengers in the back would not be able to open it under an emergency situation.

Back sliding door inoperable, dealership sold the vehicle this way, neglected to disclose the issue. When we noticed we refused the sale, dealership added to the sale contract that it would be fixed before delivery, vehicle was not fixed before delivery after several attempts, and a third party off site company attempted to fix the issue. Dealership had the vehicle for 36 days before coming to a temporary fix, door still has issues opening and closing. Sometimes won’t open at all or just close instantly after opening pinching/crushing anyone who isn’t fast enough to get out of the way in the door. Door has also come completely off the track at one point. The door will not stop if it starts to close, it will slide closed into you or a child, the censors do not work as designed apparently. I sincerely hope for a fix as I am terrified of my children being trapped in emergency situation, or in general entry exit of vehicle.

The passenger side sliding door is stuck in lock and will not open. Now when I lock the car I hear a buzzing noise from the doors. I hope the other sliding door doesnt lock because I have a child with cerebral palsy and how would I get him out incase of an accident. I need to use my van alot for doctor appointments.

My right side sliding door buzzes when I unlock my doors. Sometimes the door does not unlock and I am worried something might happen and we will not be able to get the kids out of the van.

The lock actuator gear strips, causing a loud buzzing noise when locking/unlocking the vehicle and in some cases it will not consistently actuate causing the door to stay locked. The major concerns are 1) if there is an emergency situation and someone is unable to unlock the door to quickly get my child out of the vehicle because the lock is not functional. 2) the noise it makes is loud and may startle drivers of this vehicle(from what I'm seeing, this is a common issue across the town and country and caravan lines of vans) as the locks automatically engage while entering the road which could cause a temporary loss of control of the vehicle. This endangers both the driver of the vehicle and other people on the road.

The door locking mechanism for my 2016 Chrysler town and country stopped working. After doing some research this is an on going problem in this vehicle. If I were to get into an accident I would be unable to open the doors to get my children out for safety reasons. I am not sure why this hasn't been recalled yet.

We we're driving home from bishop on the highway at night, when all of a sudden the van wouldn't shift to 3 gear. It wouldn't go past 40 miles per hour. Every time we tried to accelerate the rpm's would go past the red section (about section 8 or 9). It was driving fine around 65 miles per hour prior, when all of a sudden it wouldn't continue accelerating at that speed anymore. We pulled over trying to switch gears to see if it would go back to normal, but that didn't work and we also tried turning off the car and nothing worked. We pulled up at a gas station for more gas. When we turned the car back on and put it into driving gear it jolted for a second right before and after taking it out of the driving gear. We had to drive on the highway at 40 miles per hour with the emergency lights on so we wouldn't get hit from behind from coming and un coming traffic since it was pitch dark at night. Also, the left back passenger door right behind the driver seat was no longer working earlier. It won't open neither with the clicker, or by hand (inside or the outside) or by the inside automatic buttons for the door. It just doesn't unlock any more.

While driving down a neighborhood street with my kids,I was �punched� in the back of my head by the supplemental active head restraint on the drivers side. Upon examination, the plastic that hooks onto the holding pin snapped releasing the head restraint.

Sliding doors makin a buzzin noise when lock, unlock, or open doors, also makingba rattling noise when starts, loosing power beetween gears.

The second row, sliding doors have always made a buzzing sound when closing. Last year the driver's side sliding door stopped making the buzzing sound and a light would come on while driving down the road indicating a door was open, then the door became inoperable and the motor had to be replaced. Now the passenger side sliding door is doing the same thing and looks like it may have to be replaced as well.

While driving or sitting still all the indicator lights just come on if you were staring the vechicle for the first time,if you turn the car off it will not start back up if you take the key out of the ignition the warning buzzer starts ringing and the remote will not work. Also the check engine light stays on for days I had it at the dealer and they could not find anything. The town& county had a similar issue like this on it 2008 modle this has occured five time.

While accelerating onto the freeway the gas pedal went down farther than was pushed and what was a gradual acceleration of about 50/55 the vehicle jumped to 82mph. Several things were tried to slow it down while maneuvering to avoid hitting other vehicles and a semi. The floor mat was factory and attached to the hook and nothing was in the way of the pedal. Brakes were applied but it didn't slow it enough and upon letting off, the vehicle accelerated more. The cruise was turned on and off to make sure it wasn't that. The gears were shifted down and not until it was shifted in the the 4th gear did it start to release control. This was very scary and lasted for several miles.

The passenger side sliding door makes a short buzzing noise when the door is unlocked. This occurs if the door is shut or open. It buzzes when I use the remote unlock pushing it twice to unlock the passenger side. It also buzzes when I place my hand inside the front passenger door handle to unlock the passenger side. It buzzes every time I use the handle to unlock the passenger side whether the door is locked or not. Otherwise the door appears to operate normally so far (two days). The vehicle is stationary and this happens whether the vehicle is running or not. It does not make the noise when I lock the door. The noise appears to be coming from the rear of the door. I have not brought it into a dealership as of now.

Driver seat heating mechanism does not work. Right sliding door actuator buzzes loudly.

The driver side rear door lock will not unlock and allow the door to open. It appears to be stuck in the locked position at all times.

Passenger side rear door lock makes buzzing sound whenever unlock is pressed from any source. Issue occurs whether stationary or in motion.

Both sliding doors make awful noises when opening and shutting. It is by all means not a smooth glide for opening and shutting. Sometimes they come to a close and reopen on their own. Sometimes you can't get the door to close all of the way and latch. This is not safe when driving. They need to be looked at and put on a recall.

Doors making buzzing sound when opening or unlocking. Noise just started after owning for four years.

Sliding door lock actuators failed on both passenger side and drivers side before 38,000 miles creating a safety issues whereby passengers may not be able to exit vehicle in case of crash or fire.

Door lock buzzes when locked and unlocked. Reading online and there are a ton of owners for this model and year with the same exact issues. This needs to be put as a recall and repaired.

While we are driving the vehicle will start to jump around and we have to take our foot of the pedal. Then when we are going up any kind of hill or mountain we loss power and almost come to a complete stop even when we press the pedal all the way to the floor. The amount of speed we loss is very unsafe and very alarming. How is there not a recall on this, I have seen story after story about this. It happens to us every single day, there is not a day that we don't have this issue with this vehicle.
