Alternator went out at 86k. Known issue with exact same part # on other Chrysler products have been recalled. Van is in the shop now getting a $480 replacement installed plus 1. 2 hours of labor for a part that if on another vehicle would be covered under an existing recall.
Random stalling while driving and also while in park idling. Different systems are effected. Speedometer cuts out then a ding and it comes back. Also the indicators that tell you a car is next to you stay on. The information center stops working. Ac stops blowing then comes back. Radio does the same. When it stalls sometimes you have no power as if the battery has been disconnected. Then power comes back after while and you can start the van. The transmission sometimes will not shift. The charging system light, traction control light, abs light come on and the millage flickers dimly. A lot of strange things happening. The Chrysler dealer has replace the alternator saying it was causing high voltage. Did not fix the problem. Next they replaced the abs module saying it was shorting out. Did not fix the problem. I am bring it back to them. I suspect that the tipm is the issue. I am a retired ase certified technician in engine performance, steering and suspension, breaks and electrical.

When driving through puddles, or large amounts of water on roads, the alternator belt falls off causing the loss of power steering, engine over heating, and the battery to die. Could be while turning or driving straight.

July - drove the van down to myrtle beach and the check engine light came on and we lost all power to vehicle. Had it towed to a repair shop and they said we needed a new alternator and battery. Got it fixed to the tune of almost $1,000. Recently (late oct-current) my wife went out to start it last week and it wouldn't start. Just cranked and cranked, then after several tries, it started up like nothing was wrong. Took it to our mechanic and they said it was something electronic told us they couldn't replicate the problem, which I basically told them that they were crazy because it has done it every morning for the last week. Finally narrowed it down to the tipm, which by the way is on back order for god knows how long, and not only do we have to pay for it, . So. . . Now what? I have no vehicle and have no idea how long it will be. Chrysler is doing nothing to help even though there are hundreds of complaints about this issue- the have recalled the durangos and cherokees for the same problem but failed to do anything with the grand caravans and town and country. . . We bought a $25,000 vehicle so we didn't have issues like this. . . I've always been a Chrysler person myself but am having second thoughts about our next vehicle.

Van completely shut down while driving with no advance warning. Could not even put van in neutral to push it off the road. Needs alternator replaced. Van is only 2 1/2 years old, less than 50,000 miles on it. Other Chrysler models have recalls for alternator, but not the 2013 Town & Country yet dealer cannot get an alternator due to overwhelming problems the part is out of stock.

Was driving through an intersection (after stopped at a red light) and vehicle shut off in the middle of intersection with no warning. Also, for months now, the lights and gauges in dashboard have flickered on and off while driving. . . We took it to dealer and they re-set the computer but it didn't resolve the light flickering issue. We have replaced the alternator and also had the battery checked.

Yesterday I got in my van and as soon as I turned it on I noticed that my dash light were flashing. I put the van in reverse and my horn honked a couple times on its own, then the windshield washer fluid started spraying. I drove straight to auto zone to have them put it on their machine to check to see what the problem was. Auto zone showed no problems. I continued on to my destination with no more problems. Today the same thing happened only worse!! my horn started blaring and did not stop windshield wipers both front and back were going!!! and all of my lights were on (parking lights, headlights, reverse lights)!! I turned the van off and got out horn still blaring and wipers still going, opened hood and realized the damn van was also still running!!!!!! no key in the ignition!!! long story short I had to unplug the battery and alternator to stop the madness!!! now I find out it is the tipm and its going to cost over $1000!!!! I have to double check and see if my extended warranty is going to cover it but I'm almost sure it won't!!! I am going to be more than irrate if I have to come out of pocket to fix something that obviously is faulty and should be recalled!!!!!!!! Chrysler!!!!.

While driving on expressway at 70 mph, I pulled to the left to avoid a vehicle entering my lane and the car simple stall. No warning, all electrical system warning lights came on and after stopping in the center median, I attempted to restart the vehicle with no results. After having vehicle towed to the nearest facility, I was told that the fuel pump died and had a short. After replacing the fuel pump, the car would run for 9 minutes and would shut down. The mechanic informed me that one of the electrical control modules was faulty causing the alternator to over charge and shut off. I have had issues since we purchased this vehicle in 2007 with the gauges shutting down and the car shutting down. I have asked the dealer on several occasions about this problem and their response has always been that it doesn't happen when they have the vehicle. Now I find out that the Chrysler dealer stated to the pepboys mechanic that this is a common problem with the town and country.

I received a recall notice issued June 14, 2014 regarding the ignition switch problem. I have had multiple incidents in which the ignition switch would not work and had to call for help. Car battery, battery in key, and alternator were all fine. Was determined that the ignition switch is the problem. I am 82 years old and a widow. I am afraid to be stranded again. The dealer tells me that he can not secure the necessary repair part(s). I am very unhappy and worried about the risks involved. Can you help?.

Keep finding the battery dead. Already replaced battery, alternator and radio and still find the car randomly dead. It can be 1 day or 1 month. Very scary during winter.
I have a 2011 Chrysler town and country. As of today I have had the vehicle under 3 years and have had to replace the alternator 3 times, 3 new batteries, the master cylinder and break booster was replaced, multiple sensors, my abs and traction control never functions correctly. This is all because of the tipm that is malfunctioning and you cant get one of these because they are back ordered. And when you call the dealer ship or Chrysler they tell you there is nothing they can do.
All electrical equipment shut off. Then alternator not working properly-van will not keep an electrical charge.
Driving down the road and the vehicle stalled. Vehicle had to be towed to the dealership where rockwall Dodge service department determined that the alternator failed and had to be replaced.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and would not restart. The vehicle had to be jumped to restart. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The failure had occurred on a daily basis. The vehicle was taken to independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a battery and alternator. The battery and alternator were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 115,000. Ddr.

While traveling on an interstate highway, the check engine light lit-up on the dash. I pulled off the road and called my dealer which was located 15 miles away and was told that I may not make it back to them for service. The engine would quit. I did drive to the dealer without incident. The alternator was replaced by the dealer at a cost of $577. 35. The cause of the failure of the alternator was not identified, 14v-634 does not include the town and country but includes other Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles of the same year. I am requesting that this vehicle be considered for this recall.
I purchased the car in January of 2014, about 3 months after, the vehicle emergency light intermittently flashed and the alarm remained on, until the battery was disconnected. After reconnection, the problem seem to have gone away. But two months later the car battery died. I replaced the battery with a new one that the dealer recommended. Two weeks later, the battery was dead again and the dealer recommended we change the alternator. The old alternator was removed and replaced with a new one. A week later, the battery dead again and the battery was replaces again. A week later the battery was dead. And the dealer decided to do a complete diagnose of all electrical component. The dealer claimed the dash cluster have to be replace. I don't truth the replacement of the instrument cluster will solve the problem, I don't truth the car and I am frustrated. Chrysler group llc has been contacted but they have not return any call back.
2009 Chrysler Town & Country. Consumer states car been having mechanical problem since it was purchased. The consumer stated the engine would rev for no reason. The vehicle began to stall from the very beginning. The dealer could never find anything wrong. The battery and alternator were replaced, due to the vehicle stalling several times a day. However, the consumer continued to experience problems with the vehicle.
Purchased a used 2008 Chrysler t&c. Drove have had intermittent electrical issues in the past year (approx. 12 times) different electrical items would malfunction. Radio would not turn up or down but come on at a loud volume and stay there. Cabin lights would not work then work than not. Brought it to the dealership where they could not tell us what was wrong. Clock was not working for a while. Middle of the night the alarm, lights, and doors would open randomly. Returned to the vehicle with door open when no one had been in the rear of the vehicle. Brought it to an electrical specialist who could not diagnose. Replaced the battery and tested the alternator. Was not either as the problems persist. Replaced the 6 mos. Old battery on Thursday and it was dead by Sunday. Brought it to the garage but no one can tell us why currently we have no horn or steering wheel controls as well as all cabin lights are out.
When traveling to florida from buffalo, the battery light on the dash came on just outside of orlando, florida. It slowing started to affect the vehicle with the transmission not shifting and resulted in the engine running at 5000 rpm just to maintain 55 mph in a construction zone with no pull off to safely leave the highway. The battery finally died when we reached our destination and it was the alternator that had malfunctioned. The temperature that day was over 100 f. It could have caused an accident had I not overworked the engine.
My lights flicker on and off, replaced battery and alternator. . Not fixed. . Now I have been noticing that the panel behind my headlight switch gets very hot to to the touch. Afraid of a fire. . . Can't find any info on internet as to what can be the problem.

Driving vehicle at appropriate speed in traffic, noticed a/c was blowing warm air, smell of something burning and smoke under hood from passenger side. Immediately turned off air and stopped vehicle as soon as it was safe to do so. Upon opening the hood found smoke coming from right front engine bay area around alternator and a/c compressor. Allowed engine to ventilate and cool, restarted vehicle but with hvac system off and drove to the nearest repair shop where the mechanic checked the vehicle. Mechanic changed the engine oil and recommended to charge the a/c system with refrigerant. Other mechanics suggested taking vehicle to a/c repair shop. Informed that t&c vehicles prone to have a/c compressor issues and known defect. Never received recall notice or offer by Chrysler to have known defect corrected.
My 2002 town and country had to have a new transmission in 11/12. In June of this year, my speedometer quit working causing the transmission to shift hard. I took it to the transmission guy who replaced the speed sensor. It worked fine for a couple of weeks. Then my battery light came on suddenly. I had my battery checked and they said it was fine. They said I might need a new alternator. So I had a new alternator put in. The car did ok for about a couple of weeks, then the speedometer started jumping erratically. I took back to my transmission guy who said the speed sensor was fine. He thinks it may be due to a loose wire or a possibly damaged wire or corrosion. So far, no answers and my car is still undrivable. It jumps when I am stopped. It acts like its already in second gear or something. I am afraid to try to drive it as it is dangerous. Help! I can not afford to put more money into this. It cost too much to start with. 3. 8l v6 limited. I am a single mom with a child who has heart defects. I need reliable transportation!.
This vehicle started with the dash board lights flickering, odometer, gas gauges, and radio going haywire. Just recently it has shut off while driving down the road with my wife and four children, this has happened a total of three times in the middle of a street and in intersections. I have taken vehicle to a Dodge dealer, ran electrical diagnosis test and nothing shows up. They re-solder the cable and it went away for a day, the symptoms resumed. I have replaced battery twice, fixes systems for a day, then goes back to flickering and shutting off. I recently took to a auto electrics spec. At $70. 00 per hour, they found it likely be the battery or bcm. They replaced battery, nothing changed. Auto electrics spec. Said he wanted to change bcm, but said he can't guarantee that will fix it because of the research online. If you look up 2005 Chrysler town and country dash board flickering on youtube or any general search. Lots of others are dealing with this issue. Problem is, no one has a fix. Many have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on batteries, computers, alternators, and other attempts at fixing but nothing is working. I have contacted my local Chrysler dealership, but they want to charge $90. Per hour, to look it over. I cannot afford to put anymore money into guessing. Chrysler needs to take a serious look into this before a fatality happens. This is happening to several people, please look it up. Thank you.
Repeated dismount of serpentine belt from crankshaft pulley due to water splashing from right front tire. Has occurred four or five times since owning the 1998 vehicle in 2001. This caused the abrupt loss of power steering, braking and electrical power from the alternator. No action has been taken by Chrysler to provide s shield to protect this area.

2005 Chrysler town*country. Consumer states fraudulent and inaccurate sale of vehicle the consumer stated the vehicle had a dead battery, because the alternator needed to be replaced. The air conditioner pulley, compressor, left hub assembly bearing needed to be replaced as well.
Our Chrysler t&c 2005 lmtd, will stall while in motion. The dash and all cabin electrical will flash and eventually shut off at once. This happens at slow speeds, approaching intersections and when accelerating at intersections. Yesterday my wife was crossing a intersection when the van stalled causing her to stop abruptly in the intersection. If it wasn't for a police officer behind her interceding and stopping traffic, she would have been hit by several cars. We have brought the car into service over 8 times to our local dealership to no avail. The bcm was replaced, alternator. They can't replicate the issue and have no answers. This car is a danger to drive. This issue happens on a daily basis while in traffic. At highway speeds the car is fine.
When vehicle is idling or being driven the instrument cluster, and all other electrical components will begin to fluctuate. At the beginning of the problem one can hear a short bell tone coming from the dash area. The gauge needles move from one extreme to another, at idle or low speed the engine will die loosing all power steering and braking. After approx 1-2 minutes the van will reset and it can be restarted. While this problem is occurring there is a steady clicking coming from the dash and in the fuse panel. At speeds above approx 15 mph and engine rpms above 1750 the engine will continue to operate but the instrument cluster continues to fluctuate. This van is used to transport a disabled person. So it is important to have safe transportation. This van is not safe and cannot be relied upon to operate properly. The dealership and independent repair facilities say they can find nothing wrong even when the dash cluster and all other components are not operating properly. At the request of the dealer and a repair facility I have replaced the battery and alternator but no change in vans electrical problems. I have no idea what the problem may be.
Electrical problems. Headlights flicker on and off, speedometer goes to 0, fuel gauge goes to empty, radio goes off then on, all lights flicker on and off, turn signal flickers off and on, locks do not work on occasion. Van does not always start and sometimes stalls, air blows out the vents even when the vents are off. I have had the bcm replaced 3 times, the cluster panel replaced, the alternator replaced 2 times, fan replaced, replaced power distribution center. Chrysler service center claimed they checked all wiring. Van is still not fixed. I feel it is dangerous for my children. This happens all the time while driving. I have had it towed because it would not start. I have had it worked on so many times. I have read other people have this problem. Airbag light is now on again.
The contact owns a 2003 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the brakes squeaked and pulsated when depressed. All of the brakes and rotors were replaced. The air conditioner compressor made a grating and scraping sound and was replaced, along with the alternator. The contact was afraid to remove the key from the ignition because it would take ten minutes of jiggling to get it back in and start the vehicle. The vehicle would make a clunking noise when shifting into gear. The cylinoid was replaced. The gasket and seal on the water pump and the accessory belt were replaced. The contact was informed that the water pump needed to be replaced within six months. The liftgate was replaced as well. The following recalls were referenced: NHTSA campaign id numbers 03e053000 (fuel system, gasoline), 04v386000 (steering: hydraulic power assist hose, piping and connections), 05v134000 (latches:locks:linkages:hatchback/liftgate lock), and 06e022000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The current and failure mileages were 80,000. Updated 04-02-08 the water pump needed to be replaed after 1 year and 8 months. The transmission solenoid and seperpentin belt were replaced.
Whenever headlights are turned on, or the interior lights are turned on, the lights dim and the brighten repeatedly.

Electrical problems. One problem after another, car runs rough/stalls after 3 months old. New spark plug wires installed. Power windows stop working, relay replaced. Battery died, alternator replaced. Power windows stop working, another relay. Lift gate stops working, fixed (electrical problem). A/c fan doesn't work, rheostat replaced. Car runs rough, spark plug wires replaced. Door locks stop working, still not, unknown problem.
2005 Chrysler town and country, has been having problems for several months. It was taken initially because the cigarette lighter was smoking and from there fuses were blown. The second issues was the lights constantly flicker on and off, the radio goes in and out along with the headlights and the internal lights while driving. First I was told it was the battery so I go and buy a battery, that didn't work. Since then they have change the pcm and the alternator. I have taken the car to four different dealerships in four different cities approximately six or seven different times and my vehicle is currently at one of those dealerships because on Thursday September 27, 2007 the van just turns completely off while in motion in morning traffic, the dash goes completely black and everything is quiet. The van kicks it back on and I press on the gas. What a terrifying experience. I purchased the van used in March of 06 and since then I have had 3 recalls and the van has been at the dealers more than I have driven it. I am not a satisfied customer; I am terrified to drive this vehicle. I have children and we call the car christine because it is posed the dealers can never get the vehicle to duplicate the problem. What is going on? Chrysler has been contacted and they offer hardly any help at all.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that there is electrical failure with the instrument panel. All of the panel lights flicker on and off at all times. He took the vehicle to the dealer five times and they replaced the alternator, battery, and a few major electrical connections; however, the failure continues. The failure has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased. The failure mileage was less than 100 and current mileage was 18,000.
