3 Battery Cable problem of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/26/2016

Tipm fail I have a 2011 town and country. I just replaced the tipm module it had a had fuel pump relay. I first came to notice that the vehicle failed to start once or twice. I checked the battery. Car was fine at that point/ thought it was battery cable related. . . Later that morning the power cut out as I was traveling over 50 mph on busy state road. Almost got hit by surrounding traffic. Also shortly before any of that we had lights that would come on and off, locks behaving strangely. . . Off and on at 40 mph. That is seriously messed up to have a module fail in this fashion. Thank jesus I was using it at the time rather than my wife and four kids.

4 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

Radio, gauges, turn signals, and ac randomly stop working. Wipers turn on at the same time. Some times for seconds, sometimes for hours. There does not seem to be a trigger as it has happened while driving on the highway, back roads and even stopped in the driveway. No way to reset the car once it is in dead radio/ac/gauges mode, it will only reset itself, again randomly. I tried pulling the battery cable and waiting, then re-attaching to no avail.

While driving vehicle began to act strangely. Windshield wipers running, headlights turned off, vehicle came out of gear, then stalled. Total loss of power while driving down highway with children in vehicle. No lights, no flashers. Instrument panel began to blink. Only way to recover was to pull battery cable and reset computer. Multiple relays inside tipm module chattering while having issue.

6 Battery Cable problem of the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/08/2015

Vehicle dash power cycled, all alarms came on, gauges stopped working, a/c quit, windows will not work, windshield wipers will not turn off, turn signals quit, cruise quit, power doors will not open, radio/entertainment system failed. "no bus" displayed on evic (dash). This has happened at startup and while driving streets or highway speeds. Pulling battery cables off to reset does not work. Problem just seems to clear up on its own.

7 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

Wife stated that she went to her car to leave from work and once she got close to the vehicle the horn began blaring non stop, wipers running, fluid spurting out, dash lights going on and off and door locks going up and down. I arrived and removed the battery cable and it stopped. I replaced the cable a short time later and was able to start the vehicle and I started driving it home and as I got up to about 30 mph it did it again and this time the car cut off and I lost steering and brakes but was able to come to a stop on the side of the busy street I was on. I removed the key from the ignition and got out of the vehicle at which point I noticed that the car had cut back on and was actually running without the key in the ignition. I drove it home without further incident. At 3 am the same night we were awakened by the vehicles horn blaring in the driveway. I went outside and it was doing the same thing that my wife originally stated but the car was actually running without a key being anywhere near it - we do not have the remote start installed on the vehicle. My wife and I refuse to drive it due to the fact that if the above problems happen at 70 mph we would probably be dead.

8 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

My wife went to the car to unlock it the horn began blaring, locks going up and down, lights flashing, wiper fluid spraying everywhere, and the car actually started up w/o the key in the ignition and we do not have a remote starter on the vehicle. I arrived and removed the battery cable and it all stopped. After a few minutes I replaced the cable and was able to start the vehicle without incident. I was driving it home at approximately 65 mph and the vehicle suddenly started doing the same thing but the car cut off and I lost all steering and braking ability but was able to coast to the side parkway I was on. I removed the cable and replaced it and drove home without incident took the key out but the van would not shut off. One night of the issue we were awakened by the vehicles horn and when I went outside it was doing the same thing and the car was running in the driveway. She refuses to drive it and now we are stuck with a useless vehicle sitting in the driveway. . Fed up with this situation there needs to be someone held accountable, dealership was no help at all!! " they say the don't know what the problem is how can that be !?????? seeing that there are thousands of van owners like me with the same problem!!!!!.

9 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

The check engine, brake warning, and low fuel light stays on all the time. The gas gauge reads empty all the time. The side door close buttons do not work and something is draining my battery (I even purchased a new battery and it still happens). I have to disconnect the battery cable every time I'm done driving for the day or it won't start the next day. I can't get this vehicle inspected with the check engine light on. The part has been on back order for weeks.

10 Battery Cable problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

The following lights came abs, anti skid, check engine light. The engine started missing then the security indicator light came on and the alarm inside went off. I had no electrical controls. The windows wouldn't roll down, the door locks wouldn't work and then the engine shut off. The outside alarm then went off too. I had to disable the alarm by unhooking the battery cable. I had the car towed in to the dealer and they told me that the car was not communicating with the computer and they had no idea what the problem was. I then called Chrysler and checked to see if there had been a recall of any kind and sure enough my vehicle had the recall# l25. I have never received a recall notice but the gentlemen that I spoke with at Chrysler corp. Said that according to their records the win module had been replaced on my van and that my vehicle had been repaired on 2-7-2012. That never happened!! it is currently being checked out by the Chrysler tech at our local dealer. They said they are only allowed to replace the rubber gasket inside the module and if the module itself is bad I will have to pay for the module. The gentlemen I spoke with at Chrysler corporation told me that the module would be covered at no charge. This is crazy!!! my two young grandsons were in the van when all this happened. Needless to say they were terrified. This problem needs immediate attention. The government needs to get involved here. This is definitely a safety issue!!.

11 Battery Cable problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

I was driving home from work and the likes started flashing and then went out. The parking lights and fog lights were the only lights that worked. Next morning the lights worked. A few days later same thing happened while I was driving. I sent a letter to Chrysler and they wanted me to take it to dealership to get looked at. It took me a couple weeks to get it there cause my other car was in the shop. I had days that the lights would not come on and days that they worked. After taking it to dealer they simply tightened the battery cables and charged me for it. Less then a week later it is acting up again. Lights will either work, flash on and off, or not come on at all. I wrote another letter to them and have an appointment to take it in on Friday but am considering just cutting my losses and trading it in because I carry kids in my van and this is not a safe van.

12 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

While waiting on my husband to run in a store I was sitting in the van engine running. I touched nothing and the van went off. The doors locked, wipers , cleaning fluid, horn and it was scary. My husband released the hood and disconnected the battery cable. We could not start van without all going off again. We called a tow and van taken to auto repair shop. They checked it out and said it needed a new safety electronic component. They said van was to dangerous to drive, and it would take 3 months for the part. It is now in our garage with battery disconnected. This is our only way of transportation and what are we to do now? how are we to get to appointments, grocery and whatever? ## VIN passed ## Chrysler van 2008/town & country ##.

13 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

When opening door after unlocking and disengaging alarm, horn abruptly comes on continuously and wipers start. Pulled battery cable to shut off. Imagine if I had been driving and this happened. Could have caused a crash with me or others. Afraid to even drive it to the dealer for repair. What if it locked my child in the car in the summer heat? this should be a mandatory recall immediately!!!!!.

14 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/09/2012

Windshield wipers going without being turned on; washer fluid continually spewing out; horn honking continually; lights flashing on and off; doors locked. While driving to the dealership, van stalled in traffic. Finally was able to get it there with the engine running and the key off. Could be a very dangerous situation if vehicle caught fire due to electrical problems and I am unable to get out because the doors are locked and the knobs are down in the door so you can't pull them up to escape. It was like the vehicle was possessed. I purchased this vehicle for my mother to drive and I am afraid for her to use it. The dealership kept it for a day and said it would need a tipm, but it was on back order and wouldn't be in until possibly 1-3 months. Ridiculous! they can make several vehicles in one day and can't a part for 1-3 months. They said we probably shouldn't drive it. That's certainly inconvenient for us since we don't have extra vehicles. While the vehicle was sitting in my driveway, all of the same things happened again-horn honking, windshield wipers going, washer fluid spilling out, doors locked-while it was just sitting in my drive. We were told to unhook the negative battery cable. Something needs to be done about this issue because apparently I am not the only one with this problem as noted in other entries listed. We have not had a crash, fire or injury/fatality as of yet, but I want the problem resolved before that happens!!!.

15 Battery Cable problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/04/2011

Bought my 2005 t&c Chrysler minivan in spring of 2009 with a little over 69,000 miles on it. Few months after purchase the red airbag warning light would occassionally come on while at idle or driving rates. No other problems occured and it wasn't happening frequently. By the end of the first year of ownership, the driver side back door lock quit working with the automatic locks, and within a year an a half the driver's side window would occassionally not roll up or down and the front dome lights quit working. Replaced an air conditioner part also. Spent $500 on the front end as well that year. When window failure was more frequent I started researching on the internet about problems that have been common in this make and model of van. On oct 4th 2011, the van failed to start, making a ticking sound, figured battery or altenator. We cleaned battery cables, tried what we could to get it started. The radio and dashlights came on,all the gauges would jump erractically; when we rolled up the passsenger windows radio remained on, however when we rolled up the drivers window the radio and all gauges quit working. We ended up jumping it and were able to drive it home. Had the battery tested and tried a brand new battery to make sure that was the only problem. When we put the battery in and started it, flames shot up from the middle section of the van, just infront of the engine. The panic alarm, the horn, and the windshield wipers where all going off. As soon as we got the battery disconnected the fire went out and alarms and wipers went off. I talked to the nearest Chrysler dealership and from explanation of the various problems they said it sounded like several little problems as opposed to one big electrical problem. I have 3 small children and after the experiences I have had with the van and reading others issues online, I cant wait to get rid of this piece.

16 Battery Cable problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/12/2010

I have a 1998 Town & Country and had several instances where all the dials on the dash would flatline and then come back up. Then it started cranking then dying out immediately. It would crank 3 or 4 times and then not crank at all. If the battery cables were removed and then replaced it would then start, but that no longer works and it does not run at all.

17 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/07/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph when the vehicle lost coolant fluid and the brakes failed. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer yet the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was taken to second dealer where the front brake rotors and pads were replaced. The failure recurred one month later. The contact stated the brake pads and rotors were replaced three times to no avail. The contact stated that both sliding doors would become jammed and he would have to remove the battery cable to restart the computer for the doors to close properly. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 19,000 and the current mileage was 53,000.

18 Battery Cable problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/07/2005

The contact states the battery in her vehicle exploded. This caused the battery to leak acid and corrode the battery cables. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and they stated the battery had corroded. Other mechanics state the battery could explode only if it had not been bolted down properly or if the wires were not attached correctly. The vehicle is still at the dealership, but no corrections have been made.

20 Battery Cable problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/16/2001

Van would not start. Battery appeared weak. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Service department stated that the positive battery cable had corroded through, about 6 inches down from terminal clamp. No outside indication of serious cable corrosion. Concern is that the van gave no indication of a problem up until the time it would not start. If the cable had failed while driving we could of experienced loss of electrical power, and loss of engine power, leading to loss of control of vehicle. Service repair department stated that they are repairing several of these cable per year, at least on the 1999 model vans. Service departement also stated that the wiring design had been changed due to the high cost to replace positive battery cable (quoted as being $720) as it is part of the main wiring harness as well as starting system. I believe this is a potential defect that should be repaired by Chrysler. In over 40 years of motor vehicle associated activities I have never heard or seen a battery cable itself that has corroded. I have seen corrosion on a cable next to the old style terminal clamps (e. G. , made out of lead) but not to the cable itself. It appears to be some kind of galvanic corrosion as it is only the positive battery terminal that exhibits corrosion. The positive battery cable terminal clamp is made out of a different metal than the negative battery cable terminal clamp.
