1 Dash Wiring problem of the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/12/2009

Where to begin? 1) wiring that run along passenger side door to control rear hatch, and back side sliding door severed by opening slider door. Car can no longer be locked because the power door look system controls were cut when the wiring was cut. 2) complete loss of displays and controls in the dashboard, with no warning that it was going to happen. Everything worked in the evening, and was lost the next morning. No wipers, lights, displays, etc. Car sat in driveway for 12 hours, from the time it worked, to the time that we discovered nothing worked. 3) problem w/ power steering. Car makes a wining noise and drinks power steering fluid. Several different websites report this as a common problem, and the dealer wants a $1200 repair. This should be a recall.

2 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/05/2009

2002 Chrysler Town & Country lxi. Turn signal indicator lights inside vehicle are malfunctioning, we are unaware if they malfunction outside, other lights are shorted out inside in the "dash" area. These are all indicators of an electrical short somewhere in the vehicle. Also the power rear door on the driver's side does not open using the keypad when it is cool or raining. We were told by dealership at the time of purchase that it didn't operate at all and needed a new motor, that's why we were "getting a good price". The rear power doors will both also almost close all the way, and then open for not reason, I. E. Nothing in the way at all. The rear power doors will also not close if you are on a very slight slant. The liftgate gives a hard time latching when using keypad. The vehicle was purchased in October 2008 preowned from a dealership. These issues cause a major safety threat. Others with the same make, model and year are having similar problems. I feel that this vehicle has many problems and should be recalled at least for the faulty wiring and electrical system.

4 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/09/2006

When cruising highway with a/c on, the right rear speaker heats up very hot to the touch. We tested it, which is related to a/c on because when turn a/c off it cools down in 5 minutes. Took it back to dealer even after they repaired the recall. They state it is only the left speaker that is heating up not the right like our experience. They refused to look into it unless we pay for their technician's time. I mentioned how dangerous a speaker fire could be inside next to our kids. As I left a serviceman said we could fix it if you pay us. No fire incident yet but, it sure heats up when we travel and the a/c is on.

5 Dash Wiring problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/24/2005

We have a 1999 Chrysler town and country van and we have experienced electrical problems beginning at about 60,000 miles. It started with the dash lights and gauges intermittently going off, then back on. It also affected power to the radio and the power windows. I had the car in during the warranty period several times but the service technician could not reproduce the defect. Finally at 108,000 the car failed to start and had to be towed to a dealership. The problem was diagnosed as a faulty circuit board for the instrument panel cluster behind the dashboard, part number 4874440. This is a safety issue because gauges may not work when a mechanical malfunction occurs, such as a water pump, alternator or battery failure. Additionally, the car may not start when the weather conditions are severe, placing the occupants in danger. I checked with three Chrysler dealerships in the local area and their parts departments all told me that 396 of this $370. 00 part are on "national back order. " only 240 of the 396 are going to be filled based on production shortages. If the original manufactured parts are faulty then Chrysler needs to have a recall and replace the defective part. The demand for this part indicates there is a problem. A post mortem on defective parts may be necessary to determine why they went bad.

6 Dash Wiring problem of the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

The caller said the warning lights on dashboard will come on and the speedometer and the tachometer will stop working. She said that sometimes she has to pull off the road and turn the vehicle off to get the lights to go off, and sometimes they will not start. She said occasionally vehicle will lose power when the lights come on and she gets off the road. Dealer replaced the computer module, but it did not fix the problem. Manufacturer told her they have not seen this problem with any other van. Dealer and manufacturer do not know what is the cause of the problem is and they can't fix it. The dealer told the caller that other vans were brought in for this problem, but the caller's vehicle was taken to dealer for this problem three times.

8 Dash Wiring problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/27/2005

The lights on my dashboard and interior lights continually flicker and adjust. When I took the vehicle to the dealer I was informed that all 2005 Chrysler vans have this problem and it cannot be fixed. They further stated the voltage meter is part of the powertrain and when the bcm communicates with this the power is adjusted. They have tried everything to fix this, but it cannot be fixed.

9 Dash Wiring problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/01/2004

Radio shorted out in hot and humid weather conditions when a/c was in use. After several episodes of shorting out, all lights on the instrument panel also shorted out and radio/cd/tape unit was non-functioning from that day, 8/1/05, until present. When dealer investigated, said water was leaking into radio and caused short to back speakers. Dealer fixed instrument panel but could not fix radio/tape/cd unit. Subsequently, in January 2005, I read that Chrysler had issued a recall for 2001 vans with this problem because a fire could result in the rear speaker, but it only recalled units with the basic radio, not the combination radio/cd/tape unit as in our van. Our unit is thus excluded from the recall by the VIN number. Numerous attempts to get Chrysler to expand their recall have been unsuccessful---they have merely "documented my complaint. " will it take a catastrophic fire to get them to expand the recall? not to mention that we have lived without a radio/cd/tape player for a year while we have attempted to get this resolved! the vents over the radio have allowed a/c condensation to short the radio out completely and I want the unit replaced ASAP!.

10 Dash Wiring problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/12/2004

Tachometer, speedometer and controls on the steering wheel have ceased working, and I was told that the clockspring needs to be replaced. 1996-1998 Chrysler Town & Country minivans were recalled for this problem in a similar mileage range, and I see numerous complaints on this website for the same problem with 1999 models. Because it is real safety issue that hasn't been corrected after the recall period, the 1999 models should also be included in the recall.

14 Dash Wiring problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/28/2002

All the instrument controls (including the odometer reading) were going all over the place. For example; rpms would go from 0-3 and back, fuel would go from e-f and everywhere in between, speed would flucuate from 40-110 etc. This would all happen at once with all the panels. Took to dealer and could not find problem and diagnostic testing did not reveal that there ever was a problem. Five days later same exact problem except now the temperature gauge was also affected. Stopped at another dealership and they also could not detect that there was a problem although they could see that the displays were still not working correctly. After a call to engineers the only thing they could think of was the instrument cluster panel was defective.

16 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/20/2002

Driver side air bag warning lamp illuminated so probably not working, speed control will not engage, horn sounds when the steering wheel is turned to certain angles while driving, front windshiled wiper makes uncommanded start-up and shuts itself down, automatic seat and mirror adjustment settings become lost on a daily basis. Contacted dealer and they said they could fix it but we would be responsible for the charge and they were not sure it if would be the same problem as what is being investigated in the recall. We had a copy of the Nov. 6 press release about this problem. I spoke to the daimler Chrysler corporate office about this and they said that the recall is still pending. I felt that you needed to hear another report of this failure. I have safety concerns that the air bag is not working and I have no horn. The vehicle has not been repaired and the symptoms are present now. Thank you! dt.

19 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/24/1999

This problem only occurs in colder weather of approximately 35 degrees, or colder. Upon starting the vehicle the entire dash (speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer, etc) will be inoperative. While in virginia over the holidays this problem was occurring every day. Originally, this happened only when starting the vehicle. While in virginia over the holidays it also occurred while driving on the interstate. At that time, the engine check light also came on, and the anti-lock brake light came on. This vehicle has been at the dealership, until yesterday, since December 30, 1999, when I returned home to beaufort. They have been able to duplicate the problem and attribute it to an unknown voltage rise (from 2. 5 amps to 3. 0), but have not been able to correct the problem and still do not know what is causing it. We have contacted chyrsler customer service, who has opened a corporate file (#660213), but have no other information from them. This problem has occurred from the very beginning of this particular vehicle, though butler Chrysler believed that they had corrected the problem when we purchased it. We first found that it still existed in November, and has reoccurred problems since, until it was given to them 12/30/99 to be fixed. They returned the vehicle to us yesterday, not repaired, until they decide what they are going to do. We feel this is an unsafe vehicle to be driving.
